We were very concerned that we might become homeless due to the shortage and high expense of renting a home in Ohio.
Thankfully, we found another lender,( not Wes Banco) who was exceptionally kind and professional. We were approved for a VA loan for our new, permanent dream home within three days, by this other professional, respectful Loan Company!
Not Wes Banco!!
These are our opinions, we do not recommend Wes Banco, for Military Veterans!
We never gave up and researched many lenders until we found a respectful loan processor at another institution who greatly respected military veterans and the VA home loan process, not at Wes Banco!
We were VA approved by another kind lender in three joyous days,
not by WesBanco Bank.
We were never helped by Wes Banco!
We maintain an excellent payment history, paying all our bills and loans early and in full. We have dual incomes; we are a military family, and I am a female US Navy veteran who has served our beloved country, America. We strive to fulfill the American Dream of owning a beautiful home (no more rentals) in our great country, America.
These are our heart breaking opinions of WesBanco's VA Mortgage Loan Department as of

I went inside the local branch and told the gentleman that I wanted a debit card to go with my checking account. He said that was not a problem; he just needed to verify a few things. After going through the process, I walked out of the bank with my new debit card. One week after getting my debit card, I received a call on Monday, December 16th, 2024, regarding some possible fraudulent charges. There were four of them, and they were all fraudulent activities through my debit card. I was astonished as I had only received this card a week ago, and I had not yet used it.
How can scammers get your debit card information when you haven't even used the card? I'm starting to suspect that Wesbanco has a breach in their security concerning their debit cards. I was informed that there would be an investigation and it would take 10 business days for me to get a refund for all the charges, which totaled $1,397.00.
I'm on disability and live on a fixed income. The fraudulent withdrawals coincided with my monthly expenses being paid, causing my checking account to go into overdraft. I'm worried that by the time they reimburse my funds, I'll have a significant amount of overdraft fees. I've contacted customer service with the number on the back of my card several times and reached out to my local branch with all of my concerns. The only response I received was that it's under investigation, and if the charges are found to be fraudulent, then I would be reimbursed in 10 business days.
This situation is extremely upsetting, especially because it's Christmas, and I am broke with my checking account in overdraft. I've never had my checking account go into overdraft before. I would think that a bank would be concerned about how a customer's account got compromised by using a debit card that the customer hadn't even activated.
Many might not consider the amount of money significant, but when you are on disability with a fixed income, it is a lot. Due to the service, lack of concern, and distrust in the security at Wesbanco, I will be closing my account as soon as this matter is resolved. To anyone reading this, please think carefully before choosing this bank. Read the reviews; you might be surprised. I wish I had done that; perhaps then, I would have had a good Christmas. However, I cannot enjoy Christmas this year. I can't even afford to buy food to prepare Christmas dinner with my family. The individuals responsible for this will eventually face their actions; as the old saying goes, karma will catch up with them. I've seen it happen to others who have done wrong, so to all involved, I hope it was worth it.
I apologize for such a lengthy review, but I wanted to raise awareness for others to be cautious when choosing banks, to monitor their statements, and to use online banking tools to keep track of withdrawals. I definitely wouldn't trust Wesbanco's debit cards because, for me, it's been far too easy for others to obtain my number even when I haven't used it.
Thank you for listening.
What an unscrupulous bunch of individuals. I understand that to them it's also an investment, but the acreage alone, without the house, is worth triple the amount I owe. So, three years later, as I feared, the rate has doubled my interest payments.
When I pay it off, I will never again have an account with WesBanco. To make matters worse, they've misapplied extra principal payments incorrectly many times over the years. It's difficult to say how many instances I didn't catch. They blamed the post office no matter how many times I adjusted the timing of my mail-in payments so that even if they applied it early, they would say I owed for the month it was due and applied it towards that.
They do not allow electronic payments unless it's from their account, which can result in postal delays they claim. Either applied late or early no matter what address I chose. Essentially, they forced me to get a checking account for auto deductions. But what tops it off today is they called me to refinance my home to lower my interest. They are a JOKE? on par with other uncaring banks that are always being sued for taking advantage of their customers. Find a good Credit Union!!
Called the bank; they said it took a few days to verify. After three days, I called the bank again. By the way, every time you call, you are transferred several times to another department. This person claims the verification hasn't been approved.
Called again, this person states you cannot link a bank account to pay a construction loan. Explains to me that I need to pay directly or write checks. With no resolution, I called again; after three department transfers, I finally spoke with someone who explains that you can make an express payment.
After all this time, I am now two days past the due date. Don't you know I get a notice on my credit account stating I am delinquent? And yes, I was able to make a payment.
Like I said, the absolute worst bank I have ever been associated with. As soon as rates go down a few percentage points, I will refinance and be done with this pitiful institution.
