I have been a Zeal member for over twenty years. After retiring from the area the Zeal Credit Union location was in, I decided to keep my accounts, because I had always been happy with the service I received. I especially liked having access to a Line of Credit with them. Most banks do not offer this (like Chase!), and it is a great standby for the emergency situations that are bound to come up in life. The percentage is a little high, but to me it is well-worth the convenience of having the money available at a moment's notice. The payments are very reasonable and easy to make online. Also, I recently returned to the Zeal Credit Union building in Walled Lake, Michigan after many years, due to a unique circumstance that I wanted to talk to someone in person about. I received excellent service from a cashier there, who went "over and above" the call of duty to help me. I am truly surprised at some of the bad reviews Zeal has received. I plan on being a Zeal Credit Union member for the duration! I will also recommend Zeal to those who would like go with a new bank, that will treat them like "a person", instead of "a number", like others do (e.g., Chase).

I've been with Zeal for over 15 years, back when I was working and making $55,000 a year. I applied for a loan and was denied twice. Then I received a letter from Zeal saying I was pre-approved to refinance my car loan with them. So I tried, and again, I was turned down. Now, I applied again to help pay for my son's surgery and to pay off my credit cards, and once again, I was denied. I came to the conclusion that Zeal will take your money but will not help you when you need it. If you were smart, you would stay away from Zeal. They say they are here for hardworking Americans, but that is a lie. Again, stay away.

All banks and credit unions must consider the "5 Cs of Credit". Credit Unions are usually a bit more flexible than banks (like Chase for example!). You indicated that you are now not working. If you are receiving unearned income (SSI, RSDI, work pension, retirement, etc.), a banking institution will use the DTI (Debt-to-Income ratio), that compares your monthly debt payments to your gross monthly income. Lenders use this percentage to measure your ability to manage monthly payments and repay borrowed money. They will also consider foreclosures, car repossessions, and definitely credit reports. People need to work on these areas (like I once did!) BEFORE they blame the banking institution for denying them, due to being a "credit risk".

Excellent service with the client. Good service with my previous loan. A couple of years ago, during the pandemic, our bank account was hacked, and that's where we had a bad experience. We reported it properly and they resolved the problems.

Been with them for about 10 years. Never had any issues. They are helpful, and there are no outrageous fees or weird rules. Can go to any credit union to access account that's part of the co-op network, and any 7-11 is free ATMs. I have no reason to leave Zeal!

Very easy to apply. Once you receive it. Use the card for all purchases. But, when going out of town notify them or they will stop your card from working.

I would love to recommend this union to anyone in the area who is looking to join one. I recently moved here from out of state and referred here by a friend, the account setup was so simple and everyone in the Walled Lake branch was incredibly helpful! There is always someone there to answer your calls and any questions that you might have, very nice people! I love that smaller, local banks are always willing to help out.

I have been a member of this bank since my husband and I got married three years ago. The process to have me added to his bank account was super easy, I didn't have to go into the bank, he was able to bring the paperwork home and all I had to do was sign it. They were also very nice and helpful when we had over drafted because of gas purchases taking longer to show up on account, so we thought we had more money than we really did. Because their system was acting up on actually posting the gas purchase online they reversed our over-draft fee. The bank manager did not have to do that, since technically we should have been relying on our own account register and not the one online.
