At the local branch level, they're great but at the corporate level, they're in trouble. Banking down for entire weekends ~ if they announce a software upgrade, watch out! Go elsewhere. Alerts are almost worthless, not much in real time.

I bank with Washington Federal and have had a great customer service experience. I called in to report a lost card and the rep, John, was very sympathetic to my situation. He was also very attentive to what I was saying and proactive in suggesting that I change my card number with my utility company, which bills my debit card each month. I was not charged for replacing my card and it arrived in less than a week. John also asked me about recent transactions to make sure there was no authorized purchases, Very impressed with this company.

Washington Federal is by far the best bank I have ever banked with! They are always so courteous and helpful. With every transaction processed, it is posted immediately, making it incredibly easy for me to manage my account and spending. They also offer Bill Pay and many other easy features. I have never had any issue with Washington Federal and I plan on staying with them long term. I would recommend this bank to anyone who is looking for a company to bank with. Keep it up, Washington Federal!

Personally I couldn't be more satisfied with checking through Washington Federal. I've had my account for over two years and I have yet to be hit with any kind of fee. The one downside I can think of is that they require a balance of at least $200 in order to get a debit card. There's no monthly fee for not having direct deposit like so many other banks seem to think is okay nowadays. I've never been made to feel like I'm unworthy even though my balance is probably quite low most of the time compared to their other customers. At my location at least, the staff is very friendly and helpful, greets me by name, asks how I'm doing, and generally makes me feel very welcome. I don't have to feel embarrassed if I need to go in and make a 50 cent withdrawal for bus fare, they treat me the same every time. I've never been offered any kind of additional service or product. I banked with Wells Fargo previously and this experience has been much better. I walked out of Bank of America when considering opening account because they claimed that "everyone charges a fee now for not having direct deposit. I told them, "I know a bank that doesn't", and that's Washington Federal, and it was the best banking decision I ever made. I recommend them to anyone, I couldn't be happier with them.
