Academy Bank Checking Accounts

I have used this bank, and they are great because they are located in many Walmart stores. Multiple times, they have waived penalty fees and allowed me to start fresh or just pay the minimum. Karin was my helper today, and she did an excellent job and helped me greatly.

I have used Academy Bank for over 20 years, and yes, they have issues, but most get resolved quickly. I received notification promptly about an unauthorized debit card transaction. I needed to have my card replaced, but I am a disabled veteran who is homebound. The local branch could not issue a replacement unless I physically came down. The account holder couldn't bring a supporting document, ID, old card, and verbal authorization on the phone, etc. The only option was to get it by mail. I went through the telephone process. The customer service representative first heard my wife assisting me because I am hearing impaired. She cut us off and stated that if anyone was helping me, she could not continue. I explained she was the account holder and my caretaker. It didn't matter, so she provided the information by writing it down for me. Then, she asked for the month and day the account was opened. We had no way of knowing, and it wasn't written down anywhere—I mean, 20 years! We opened the bank app, but it wasn't listed anywhere. Finally, after about 30 minutes, we got through all the necessary information, and she stated she had to read an offer for available services before she could request a new replacement card. That was about 2 minutes more. Then she proceeded to order a new card. I asked if it could be expedited instead of the normal 7-10 day delivery. She said yes, for $50.00! I told her that as a victim and needing my card to pay bills, the cost was outrageous. I thanked her for her great customer service, and she then offered to waive the $10.00 service fee. Academy Bank needs to review their procedures for senior disabled customers to allow caregivers to conduct business for them without them being physically there and to provide a way for long-time customers to know when they opened their accounts. They need to recognize these as victims and treat them accordingly!

I deposited a paycheck of $1,247.00 on Saturday, and when I attempted to use my debit card, there was no money in my account. The branch manager attended to me and I was the only customer there at the time. The bank teller and manager were very rude, claiming I had not made the deposit. On my fourth visit to the bank, now extremely frustrated, I was informed that a mistake had been made and my money had been placed in someone else's account, who had been notified of the error because the money needed to be transferred to my account. I was not notified. Instead, they implied I was lying, and I had to wait while the manager and an unidentified man reviewed the video to determine the correct amount of money to be returned to me, acknowledging their error. However, I was told I needed to monitor them more closely in the future.

First and foremost, I should have been notified about any transactions concerning my money before the unintended recipients were informed. No apology was offered for the inconvenience, and it took several days and assertive behavior on my part to reclaim my funds. Even as they returned my money, the staff remained discourteous. I have never experienced such poor treatment in any business, and unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.

A word of advice: if you are unable to perform your job or it does not meet your expectations to be here, then please seek employment that aligns with your standards. There was a young lady named Randy who formerly worked here and treated everyone with respect. It would be beneficial if she were reinstated as manager, as she performed her duties much better than the current staff. I would give a zero rating if possible.

They took $500 out of my account on the same day twice. It was an ATM tech issue. But they said it was a withdrawal from the day prior, which wasn't true at all. They never would show me the proof. I never signed up for overdraft, but my account has been in negative status since this day from 2016. The discrepancy department said if I paid the negative balance, which should never have happened, they would open my account and we would see what we could do. He actually sent me a copy of the transaction. The resolution manager ignored my phone calls for days. She said even if they did owe me, I wouldn't get my $500 because it's been this long. I said you could refund my money. No one has ever wanted to show me proof. I was able to chat with customer service, and they were able to send me everything else but that part of my bank records because they were blocked from that transaction. That's a red flag right there. They have kept this away from me for seven years. Academy Bank needs to pay it back.

The branch is located right in front of my apartment complex, so as a no-brainer, I decided to use them as my bank for my newly opened business. I come in, the tellers are quite friendly and helpful, and they even printed out my business debit card right then and there. Fast forward 2 weeks, I walk in to deposit some more money and come to find out they had closed my account—no phone call, email, text, or anything. The teller felt super embarrassed because no one informed him of the situation. He then tells me that the reason why the bank closed my account was that my business had only been open for several days...which was new information for both of us. The next day, I receive two cashier's checks along with a letter which said, "We have decided not to do business with you; if you have any further questions, please call this number." Of course, I call the number and guess what...I was told, "We have decided not to do business with you." That's it! No explanation, no further reason...to which I replied, "You send me a letter saying that you're no longer doing business with me and that if I have any questions to call this number, I do, and you tell me the same thing." She paused and said yes. End of conversation. I wish I could give negative stars instead of one.

This bank has the worst IT department of all time. Nothing works properly! They don't support Quicken because they are unable to set up the access.

Bs, if you accidentally forget a pin number, or buy things they deem to be suspicious, they block your account, So then you look like an idiot standing there infront of people like a bum. I'm sorry, but for my wife to have to call back while I'm at the store is bs, I'm on the account as well, now my food is getting warm, and now I have to wait. I get it, you want to protect your customers, but this fraud protection is overboard, how is it your the boss of our money?

This is by far the worst bank ever I spent 15 years with this bank once the would not release my mother life insurance policy money until after her funeral I left. I should have been gotten away from the most toxic bank ever

I’ve been with Academy Bank for years and have been overall happy, however lately, not so much, they allow my cc payments when I have no money and I just pay an overdraft fee no biggie but lately they have been clearing it and then a few days later reversing the payment for insufficient funds and charging me an return item fee!! Leaving me now having fees from them and the cc company! It’s ridiculous and all they can say is “ we can allow or not allow the overdraft at our own discretion”. RIDICULOUS!! I’m changing banks by the end of the month!

This bank blocks your card from working if you happen to visit too many stores in a day or do too much online shopping. So, in turn all of your orders get declined if it's online. They don't check with you like a NORMAL bank would! So, you're out of luck until you can get ahold of someone at the bank to verify and turn it back on. I have 3 checking accounts and two savings accounts with this bank that I am going in to close tomorrow. Would not recommend!
