Commerce Bank Checking Accounts Reviews
What's Your Rating?
First incident occurred with someone charging random ATT and Spectrum charges from out of state. None of these flagged the account and all were allowed to overdraft. Customer service doesn't help over the phone online, you MUST go into a branch to fight the fraud and this takes hours upon hours. In the end they make you setup a new account number and come back into the branch to transfer the recovered funds. The worst!!!
Second incident just occurred. I received a December 2025 letter in the mail (they have my phone number and email) stating that due to inactivity I would be charged dormant fees! This is their free checking account with minimum deposit of $100. No 30/60/90 day notices of upcoming charges, just a December letter stating the next statement would have the fee. The next statement released prior to the letter even being received!! I received my Nov 14- Dec 13 statement with an $8 charge for dormancy!
Basically, if you want an incompetent bank with practices to nickel and dime you, with ZERO fraud alerts, then go into Commerce bank, they'll be glad to steal your money and not care for already having access to invest your deposited money.
On another note, my 2nd cousin who is in a nursing home has been with Commerce since it was available in St. Louis. Her designated power of attorney and guardian has no access to information on her accounts and Commerce won't provide it, even with an attorney requesting it. They're stating that my nearly bed ridden 2nd cousin must provide a drivers license and show up in person to make any changes to her account!! A drivers license for someone who has been in a nursing home for nearly 10 years and license is expired!
They're a curse to work with and no other bank I've worked with have I seen this type of disregard for the welfare of the account owner. Again, only attempting to take your money through fees and ensure you can't move your money out without unreasonable hurdles... should anyone you know be aged where this would affect them, I'd recommend to move money now! Leave Commerce for good! This deserves negative stars!
