NBT Bank Checking Accounts

Worst banking experience of my life. Had my account charged with four overdraft fees within one week without any alert or notice from the bank. Never had a problem overdrafting my account in 11 years, but the one time I do, I get charged $140 within a week. Worst banking experience of my life; would not recommend to anybody.

NBT Bank is the absolute worst bank ever! NBT stands for Nothing But Trouble! The customer service is terrible! Our account was hacked! NBT allowed individuals from out of state to cash fake checks with our name misspelled and the endorsements only having first names. It was complete fraud, and they didn't bother to stop it. Now, our debit cards were turned off without warning while we were on vacation. Luckily, we had $41 in cash to make it home. The reason? NBT said they didn't have our employer information, which they definitely did. ATMs rarely work. We are searching for a new bank now!

Tried calling NBT Bank several times, so I finally went to speak with the branch manager. I said to them that I had been calling and leaving messages, and you never called me back. Her response was, "I have a lot of calls to deal with." I guess that’s great customer service. I’m really looking to switch banks; these people don’t have a clue what’s going on when asking them questions.

I've held accounts with NBT Bank and its predecessors for five decades. While I've had excellent service with them on the domestic side, it has been 180 degrees opposite on anything international. Despite notifying the bank in advance, both online and in person, of upcoming foreign travel, the bank has consistently frozen my accounts once I was traveling abroad, rendering both my debit card and access to my accounts unusable. This has occurred several times. I lodged a formal complaint with a regional NBT president, who took my complaint seriously and subsequently informed me that NBT had reformed its system. Well, I went through the same motions for my latest foreign trip and guess what? Locked out of my accounts, requiring a 45-minute phone call from overseas to reverse it. Having zero trust in NBT's competence in this area, I now use another bank that caters to military personnel and retirees whenever I travel outside the country. I also use this bank when wiring money abroad due to NBT's excessive fees and slow processing. Bottom line: if you never leave the country and engage solely in domestic financial transactions, NBT is fine. If not, take your business elsewhere.

My first call, I received an automated message that all agents were busy, and so on. I selected the option to have my place held in line for an agent to call me back. I received a call back within a minute and got the automated system again, stating all agents were busy. Then why did I get a call back if no one could answer the phone?

Kristen in Customer Service is the most rude and unhelpful representative I've encountered. She sounded absolutely miserable when she answered the phone. I had the displeasure of speaking to her twice. She transferred me to a different department whose line rang unanswered.

Upon calling back, she was uncooperative and made no attempt to provide further assistance, even when I asked if there was a specific person she could reach out to. I inquired about how to file a complaint, and she didn't answer that question. She did mention she didn't know what to tell me if the people in that department weren't answering the phone. She could have reached out to her supervisor, who probably could find out why no one was answering the phone. But Kristen didn't do that. I was so irritated that I hung up on her.

If there were any other bank local to me, I would use them. Sadly, I'm stuck with this bank. If you can, bank anywhere else.

I have been banking with NBT for 32 years and have decided to part ways. A company accessed my account not once, but three times, which was obviously fraudulent. NBT was kind enough to charge me insufficient funds fees and then, after the third incident, charge me a fee to stop the payments. So not only was I scammed by the company, but NBT also took money from me as well. I am so tired of being cheated out of my money that I work so hard for.

If I could give a zero, I would. Terrible service. No help at all. My card was hacked, purchases made in Cali, and I can’t get them to help at all! The idiotic branch manager told me I needed to call all the merchants and work it out. Really? What does your fraud dept do? As soon as I can get it all straightened out, I’m out! I totally hate them. Run away, don’t use them and don’t look back.

NBT Bank froze my account. Said a check deposit was fraudulent. Which it wasn't. Fraud Dept was supposed to call me to discuss it which they never did. I won't use this bank ever again

Deposited a check in nbt bank in saranac lake Ny the lady put a 7 day hold on it even though it was a business check so I call the business the funds were already released to nbt and we still can't get out money this is out of spike because I never got along with her son Julie Conners I will never bank again there after I can withdrawal my funds
