For those who prefer a non-interest-bearing account
Everything started great with TCB. A few years ago, I found they had one of the best rates with their High Yield Savings, so I parked some cash there. I later opened a free checking account for no-fuss purchasing with my check card. I would make deposits to my savings and transfer to checking as needed. The mobile app is easy enough and worked like a charm... until one day... a Sunday... when two—ONLY TWO—wrong password attempts (because of my fat thumbs... it happens)... and click! Account locked.
I have used online banking apps with different banks over the years and run into this "locked account" issue many times. But never have I experienced such a lack of support to immediately call and resolve the issue, even during non-business hours. Texas Capital Bank's lack of availability to support me on this is a different level of incompetence I was not expecting... read on...
No problem, I'll just call the customer support number on my screen to fix this, like I do with my other bank accounts (24/7)... but no! No such thing. The recording tells me to go to the website and contact them through an email message—which states they will respond during business hours. But remember, it's Sunday morning. Okay, no problem. But wait, Monday is Columbus Day... an idiotic bank holiday. So now we're talking Tuesday.
Okay, I'll just use the telephone banking service where I can check my balances, change my check/debit card PIN, and (apparently) transfer funds—just like in the banking app I am now locked out of for at least two days. The website literally says the telephone banking offers fund transfer functionality, but all it allows me to do is hear my balances and the last five transactions. What the literal heck? My bank accounts are all but inaccessible until at least Tuesday now.
The fact that Texas Capital Bank has no live support whatsoever during non-business hours is utterly beyond comprehension and completely unacceptable. I have banked with large national banks and small regional banks alike, and I've never experienced such a lack of after-hours accessibility.
Texas Capital Bank just lost a customer for life. There are too many choices, and in 2025, this experience should never happen.

Absolute complete waste of your time, and energy. Their customer service is the most disrespectful waste of your time you will have ever seen, they have no desire to help any of their customers, and will no accept any responsibility for anything. Do not ask for a debit card, they will make you pay to order it, they will make you pay for checks, and it will take 3-5 days for your Zelle to work.

I used to have a checking account with Texas Capital Bank. They love to advertise that their checking account earns interest. While this is true, what made me ultimately regret having an account with them is the rather obnoxious fees. $12 a month is a very large premium for what is essentially a basic checking account, no different or better than many others with smaller fees, or none at all. Twice, this fee hit me when my balance was low, so it was as if I was being punished for being poor, because both times this happened, it sent me into overdraft (and another $35 in the hole). I didn't really mind the bank so much, but I sure don't miss those awful fees.
