The Market Comparison is a key component of the WalletHub Rating, as it measures how appealing the terms of a card are compared to a pool of over 1,500 credit card offers monitored by WalletHub. To ensure cards are evaluated for their most relevant purpose, we score each card across various cardholder needs and select the rating for the need with the highest score, which is “Improve Credit by Paying in Full Each Month” for this card.
The Smile Generation Credit Card is not the best option for most people given its high interest rate and lack of rewards. This card is intended to help you make oral care more affordable, but its financing plans can actually make your situation more expensive if you’re not careful.
The card’s appeal stems from its $0 annual fee and promotional financing offers. However, one of the financing offers uses something called deferred interest, which means the card’s high regular APR can apply to your entire original purchase amount if you don’t pay off your purchase by the end of the promotional period. This is very dangerous. Similarly, the other financing promotions aren’t guaranteed to be cheap, and the regular APR can ruin your savings opportunity if you’re not careful.
The good news is that most people who can qualify for the Smile Generation Credit Card should be able to get approved for better deals. You can check out our editors’ picks for the best 0% APR credit card offers to compare your options.

The Smile Generation Credit Card interest rate is 32.99%. The regular Smile Generation Credit Card interest rate is fixed, meaning the rate does not change based on economic conditions, like a variable rate would.

Horrible experience with the Smile Generation 0% interest payment plan. They'll sell it as positive for the patient, but it's completely predatory in practice. If you don't pay it off completely during the 18-month window, you'll get 18 months of interest added to your bill, at 30% interest. Tell them you want to pay it off in full? Sorry, you signed the contract.

Never apply for this credit card. I had to use it to get my son's teeth done back when I was making minimum wage. The interest rate is 39.99%, and we have been making payments on a bill for over 5 years that was originally about $2,000. I called to try to work something out because, after 5-6 years of payments, that bill should be well overpaid. The amount owed is still $1,400 after all that time. This company obviously takes advantage of people who are not financially literate. The minimum payment is less than the interest, so if you don't know any better, they will cheat you out of way more money.

Horrible. I had paid over $4,000 in payments and even marked the date my promotional rate expired on my calendar. I logged on April 18th to pay my last $600 and saw $1,600 of interest had been added on April 11th, which, according to my records, should not have been added until May 11th. (The 18 months begins at the date of service.) I spent the next four days pleading with them to help reduce the interest, since I had paid off the actual balance. They would not even negotiate the exorbitant interest rate – 33% on the whole balance, not just on the remaining balance at the time the period ends. Ensure that you understand that. I did not. They don't care.

I am not sure if I am writing to an AI, but I am still going to continue to keep my argument. The Smile Generation credit card never sent me a paper statement, which was part of their agreement. I was not signed up for paperless. Now, 7 days after my promotion was over, I receive my first email, and it is so convenient that I am receiving a monthly statement after they charged me almost $5,000 in interest. I have been living at the same address for the last 10 years. This is the most dishonest business, which takes advantage of people. I was never late for a payment and had every intention of finishing paying my loan. I even called in December. I never received an email or a statement, and when I called them, no one reminded me about my due date. I even asked what I needed to do to pay off my loan faster, and their advice was to increase my monthly payment to $250 a month. I am glad I have the money to pay for their trap. I just want the world to know about their fraud.

The worst company in the world! I am trying to remove them from my credit report right now because of mistaken identity and they won't budge. I despise these people and I wish them ill.

I would give a half star, but that's not an option. These people are thieves and don't care about their customers. I was in the hospital and my payment was made on the due date. But because I'm on the west coast and not the east, they charged me a $41 late fee! The representative in another country refused to waive the fee, even though he could see it was made. I will only recommend this card if you want to get ripped off.

I sent them a check to pay off the remaining balance on my account. For over a month, I kept getting calls from them, saying they never received my check. I sent them a picture of the check along with the paper statement. I talked to several different agents, and they were more concerned about receiving the payment than trying to find out where the check was; none of the agents would connect me with a supervisor. I called to find out if the check had been cashed and found out they sent the check back because the account number wasn't written on it. Prior to sending the check, they refused to provide me with my account number, and the full account number is not on the paper statement or my account. The only way they would give me my account number is by sending me a new card, which I told them I don't want. Now, they are charging me late fees and sending it to collections.

This is the most predatory credit line I have ever encountered. Your dentist will tell you it's "12, 18 or 24 months interest free" which sounds great. They don't send a physical card and therefore I don't recall if they mail the terms and conditions. Of course, you wouldn't bother looking at them as it is assumed it is a typical interest-free credit line. In actuality, once your interest-free term expires they hit you with all of the accrued interest charges. If you have multiple plans and attempt to pay off a non-expired one, they apply it to the expired one. You have to call and speak to a "senior account representative" to get it applied properly. This credit line has costs me untold thousands on top of the exorbitant initial costs for the work done in office.

This company never sent me a card and refused to provide the information I needed to set up payments until I was already being charged late fees. They also refused to accept any payment except through my bank information. They seemed so shady over the phone that there was no way I was going to give them my bank info. Total scam of a company.

This company is terrible. They tell you they will close the account after you pay them off, yet they still send you a bill for late fees. How can they charge late fees on a closed account? They are desperate for money. Do not open an account with this company; they will rip you off. The people who work for them are unprofessional. The company is a scam and a rip-off. Stay far away.
