We do not recommend WesBanco in Beavercreek, Ohio, for VA military home loans. We were traumatized by our experience at WesBanco. As a result, we left the bank.
We were very concerned that we might become homeless due to the shortage and high expense of renting a home in Ohio.
Thankfully, we found another lender,( not Wes Banco) who was exceptionally kind and professional. We were approved for a VA loan for our new, permanent dream home within three days, by this other professional, respectful Loan Company! Not Wes Banco!!
These are our opinions, we do not recommend Wes Banco, for Military Veterans!
We never gave up and researched many lenders until we found a respectful loan processor at another institution who greatly respected military veterans and the VA home loan process, not at Wes Banco!
We were VA approved by another kind lender in three joyous days, not by WesBanco Bank. We were never helped by Wes Banco!
We maintain an excellent payment history, paying all our bills and loans early and in full. We have dual incomes; we are a military family, and I am a female US Navy veteran who has served our beloved country, America. We strive to fulfill the American Dream of owning a beautiful home (no more rentals) in our great country, America.
These are our heart breaking opinions of WesBanco's VA Mortgage Loan Department as of Feb. 2025

Small Town Bank with Huge Corporate Greed. Once Oak Hill bank seemed to deal with locals. Now that they've gotten larger, they forget who paved their way. Three years ago, before rates went up, I planned to refinance with 66% equity in my home on a variable-rate mortgage I disliked taking, even though it was low. I knew the rates would go up, and today I'm at 8.5%. Anyway, three years ago they told me it needed repairs and they wouldn't refinance until all repairs were completed. Understandable, but what they requested was excessive, requiring another loan when I wanted to reduce my debt and interest. Unfortunately, with 33% still owed, it wasn't possible.
What an unscrupulous bunch of individuals. I understand that to them it's also an investment, but the acreage alone, without the house, is worth triple the amount I owe. So, three years later, as I feared, the rate has doubled my interest payments.
When I pay it off, I will never again have an account with WesBanco. To make matters worse, they've misapplied extra principal payments incorrectly many times over the years. It's difficult to say how many instances I didn't catch. They blamed the post office no matter how many times I adjusted the timing of my mail-in payments so that even if they applied it early, they would say I owed for the month it was due and applied it towards that.
They do not allow electronic payments unless it's from their account, which can result in postal delays they claim. Either applied late or early no matter what address I chose. Essentially, they forced me to get a checking account for auto deductions. But what tops it off today is they called me to refinance my home to lower my interest. They are a JOKE? on par with other uncaring banks that are always being sued for taking advantage of their customers. Find a good Credit Union!!

The absolute worst bank I've ever been associated with. Never received a first bill. The second bill had two months' charges. Tried to link my bank. Saw the transactions in my account (two small credits - then one debit). Next, it goes into pending mode.
Called the bank; they said it took a few days to verify. After three days, I called the bank again. By the way, every time you call, you are transferred several times to another department. This person claims the verification hasn't been approved.
Called again, this person states you cannot link a bank account to pay a construction loan. Explains to me that I need to pay directly or write checks. With no resolution, I called again; after three department transfers, I finally spoke with someone who explains that you can make an express payment.
After all this time, I am now two days past the due date. Don't you know I get a notice on my credit account stating I am delinquent? And yes, I was able to make a payment.
Like I said, the absolute worst bank I have ever been associated with. As soon as rates go down a few percentage points, I will refinance and be done with this pitiful institution.

Stay away! I ended up with this bank from my realtor suggesting the loan officer who is with this bank. And let me tell you the entire experience was awful. I was pre-approved 4-6 months prior to the actual purchase. I was repeatedly told different amounts of money to bring to the table; all the way to withdrawing 25k out of 401k that was unnecessary. I was doing a bridge loan and they had to do an appraisal for the value of my old house. The loan officer came back with a value almost 80k under what it actually appraised for, which i then had to pay for. The earnest money I put down was left off of the final disclosure and when I caught and questioned it I was simply told they could not verify I paid it. I'm like so... you're just gonna screw me out of it?!!!! Yup, they never even mentioned it. She said well we couldn't verify it so we couldn't give you credit!!!!??? WHAT!?The loan officer had to reach out and ask my realtor to send me a check for the amount after closing. My realtor had to stay on the loan officer for feedback as to what was going on all the way up to a few days before closing. Day of closing I show up with a check for the wrong amount bcuz the loan officer told me another incorrect figure. Which caused another trip to the bank another fee to get a cashier check on top of looking foolish in front of the entire closing table. The cherry on top... after I closed my old home I called and texted the loan officer to pay back the bridge loan, she didn't respond for a few days. I had to call my realtor and her manager to get a return call. Only to find out I was being charged daily interest on the bridge loan. That was not the initial agreement (I had until 1st house payment due interest free). After hearing all of this, the manager tells me basically I better get to the bank that day to keep from accruing anymore interest and get it paid. I explained I should not have to pay from the day of closing bcuz a. I was not notified and b. I was being charged for the officer not calling me back to get it paid. They didn't even have paperwork showing me my payment for the bridge loan and her manager was shocked. Come to find out the bank/ loan officer should have notified the title company to wire them the check, and the check should have never went to me bcuz it was technically a lean against my old house. And I paid wire fees twice from the title Co and my bank. Then had to go get another cashier check, pay the fee, drive it to Wesbanco on my time and gas for their mistake. I was never offered any fix to this matter. Now on to trying to figure out to make my upcoming loan payment. I've looked a few times online and it seems like another problem to face. Whoooooo....I can't wait to refinance with someone else and get the heck away from this disaster of a place!!!! You've been warned!

In our opinion, we also do not recommend Wes Banco in Beavercreek, Ohio!
In December 2024, we were traumatized and concerned that we would become Homeless in Ohio, due to the Negative Wes Banco Beavercreek Ohio, VA Home Loan process!
There are drastic shortages, and very high costs, of Home Rentals, In Ohio!
For, I am an Honored US NAVY Female Veteran, with Dual Incomes, and sacrificed and worked hard for my VA Home Loan Benefits!
WE left Wes Banco!
WE also agree with the above review, to stay away from Wes Banco!!!
Run, Run, very fast away from Wes Banco, as if a big T-Rex Dinosaur was chasing You!!
God helped us, we found another Lender, who honored the Military!
Thankfully, at another Bank(NOT WES BANCO) We found a very kind Loan Processor and a great, kind, respectful Lender, who helped us, and we joyfully got approved in only 3 days!!
These are our opinions,

If I could give Wesbanco less than 1 star, I would. My husband and I are having a new house built in York, PA and Wesbanco was one of two mortgage lenders our builders recommended as preferred lenders. My husband and I DO NOT recommend Wesbanco! After discussing the mortgage options with a few lenders, we decided to go with Wesbanco because of the lower loan rate and the friendliness of Daniel Murtaugh, the current Vice President. Once committing to them for our construction to perm 10/1 ARM loan though, Wesbanco fell through with all communication. We were subsequently contacted by various people from the bank, asking for a wide variety of information and documents from us leading up to settlement, but when we responded with questions, we usually received no response. They wanted a lot of information that we as the buyers, not builders of the house, had no idea of the answers. We would email and call the bank, with little to no response. As first time buyers with this type of loan, we had little to no support or help from this bank in the process. And when we met for settlement, we were all waiting on them to finish their paperwork before we could settle, and there was no one from WesBanco present to represent/help! We couldn't even get ahold of anyone when we reached out to them during settlement! How embarrassing! We also were required to open a bank account with them in order to get 0.25% of a lower loan rate, but opening that account was an absolute nightmare. We informed our realtor and construction company that we highly do not recommend Wesbanco for any of their customers. Hopefully our mortgage loan gets bought out by a bigger company. We are done working with Wesbanco!

Would give a negative review if I could. Got all my information, made part of a mortgage offer then disappeared. I spoke to the MGR, Denise and when I still didnt get a response I called her again and she never responded to me. Way to excel at customer service. It was only a 1/2 million dollar mortgage, no biggie.

Wesbanco are Crooks!!!! I had dealt with my local branch for almost 20 years when I decided to see if they would approve my mortgage in 2006. Of course they pulled strings, cooked up programs, and did some special "Gift of equity", all in the name of getting me to sign on that dotted line. Fast forward 2 years after that date. I lost my good paying job when the economy tanked. Facing an imminent foreclosure, Wesbanco was willing to make numerous payment arrangements to try to "Help" me. They gave me a modification for 4 years. After that expired, they gave me a 2 year modification. All these did was lower my interest rate from 6.25 to a lower rate. Well after that one expired, I explained to anyone at a branch or corporate office that would listen, that I was still make $20K less a year, now divorced and paying child support. No one cared. I fought for 2 years to get the bank to just leave my interest rate at the lower rate. Keep in mind, this lower rate is STILL above prime. Nope! They wouldn't have any part of it. Keeping in mind that at the lower rate, I had not been late on a payment or anything in almost 5 years. Once I started working again. I made good on every promise to pay them I had made up to that point. Well, now my house was just seized by the court and the banks crooked attorney, who blocked all of my filings, objected and struck all of my objections from record, and basically told me to F off! I even received a cease and desist from their CEO for trying to reach upper management to help me. Yeah, friendly bank!!! Beware, do not bank with them at all. Do not sign a loan with them, do not give them your business. Just another big bank, with nothing but profit on their mind. Oh yeah... my original mortgage was a 30 year fixed, so this was not an ARM. They just didn't want to help me at all by dropping less than 5 points off the interest rate. That meant less money for them, no shiny new car for their CEO.
