I applied for a small business administration loan through this bank. The business I was buying had substantial income to cover the debt service, but they denied me due to loans in my current business that could easily be covered with the equity I had in over 54 properties. I was denied even though the new business income would have covered the debt service completely.

I created an account today, which required funding the account with an initial deposit of $25.00. I funded the account using another checking account that I own. Once set up, I received a Zelle payment $740 and it arrived in my account just fine. This was a commission payment to me, which I turned around and used to pay my rent (also through Zelle). Everything seemed to work fine, and all was good.
Five minutes later, I received an email from First Internet Bank stating that my account application hadn't been approved. No reason for the denial, and no option was provided to contest their decision. What could have possibly kept me from opening up an "internet" bank account? I have a 633 credit score (not great, but not terrible), I've lived in the U.S. for my entire life, I have my own tutoring business, and I haven't opened a bank account in over 10 years. This makes no sense, and seems a bit suspicious. Why wait until I deposit over $765 to deny my application?
To make matters worse, the (rude) customer support person that I spoke to said they would be sending my funds back through Zelle. What!? This means, they're sending MY money to someone else. I don't have another Zelle account, so it's going to someone I worked for. How embarrassing! Zelle was the entire reason why I created an account with FIB in the first place.
My recommendation? Save yourself the trouble, and avoid this bank at all costs. That's what I wish I had done.on? Save yourself the trouble, and avoid this bank at all costs. I sure wish I would have.

@FirstInternetBank I've tried calling, emailing, and chatting with your support team. My money has still not been returned to me, and your staff will not give me any possible resolution to this. What do I have to do to get my money back? File a complaint with the FTC or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau? This is ridiculous.

This bank is very difficult to deal with. Half the time, we can never access our account, and when we do, it's always a hassle to make a payment. Now, due to the times, job loss, and snow in Georgia, we got behind. It's our fault. But we called to rectify the situation, and the first lady said that we could resolve it, which was great. Then another lady came on the line with my husband and was extremely rude, telling him we had to pay the entire loan amount, which is 36k, or have it repossessed. You would think if someone is trying to bring their account up to date, which in our case is less than 2k, that a bank would work with them instead of taking the item away, especially now that we have jobs and can afford what we have, keeping everything up to date and current. I wish I knew the lady's name for certain. We have also sent an email to the VP of Consumer Loan Servicing. So hopefully, we can set things right. Prayers.

Process for opening CD was easy. Tom in customer service was great. Rates were the best I could find where the restrictions and penalties were not bad. I am happy with them so far. I'll update if needed, but I don't foresee any troubles.

Horrible customer service. Was supposed to mail boat title and lien release to dealership, instead they sent it to an address in Florida. I live in South Carolina. They refused to send it again and told me I'd have to go to Florida to get another one.

Terrible customer service - waste of time. I opened a business savings account with FIB with the intention of transferring money from my regular business account back and forth to take advantage of their higher yields when that cash wasn't needed. I attempted to transfer in some funds but was told that since it was a new account, my ACH limit was $10k/day, but that I could wire in the money, or I could wait 90 days to increase my ACH limit. Wiring funds is cumbersome for me, but ACH is very easy. So, I waited. 90 days later I requested an ACH daily transfer increase. Denied again, but this time they stated that there was insufficient activity to justify an increase. Well... there are a couple problems with their response: 1) If there was an activity requirement in order to obtain a daily ACH limit increase - why didn't they say so at the outset? Why make me wait 90 days? 2) How can they miss chicken/egg dilemma...There would have been more activity if the ACH limit wasn't a hinderance. As a sign of good faith, I transferred in the daily max, attempted to escalate the issue, twice, and waited 5 business days for a response before writing this negative review. A well-run institution would facilitate customer deposits and transfers, especially the larger ones.

This bank is fraudulent. I attempted to purchase a $350,000 6 month CD. I got this response:
We are sorry to inform you that your request cannot be honored at this time. First Internet Bank attempted to verify your information by obtaining a consumer report in accordance with the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001. Our decision was based in whole or in part on information obtained in a report from the consumer reporting agencies listed below.
What a crock. Taking my money to a real bank!

Just curious why you would put more than the FDIC coverage amount in one bank? I could see the bank's audit department questioning a deposit that large. I would suggest you go through your broker.

I would never, ever use this bank again. I thought every bank had smooth processes but that is certainly not the case. Upon maturity of CD I logged into access the funds and saw a new CD was put in place. After several calls and tries to transfer money I did finally get the money where I wanted it--my main checking account at another bank. Now I can't wait to close out the account and be done with this bank.

I have had nothing but issues after I submitted my business documents. From trying to verify connecting accounts-i.e. Cash App, Booksy, Venmo, etc.- to getting someone from the Business Services department on the phone, to actually getting my dashboard to work to somehow having someone open a personal account for me that I never requested... I've had it. I actually have went as far as to email them directly with their verification information to try and let them know that the deposits to verify my other accounts had made it- amounts and all... only to have them be nonresponsive for the past 3 months. Then when I finally got something it was a request to go to a private message and to have them totally miss the mark on what was going on and to tell me that they had closed my account. All of this after looking at my account, seeing that there were statements for the account- that by the way had a tech issue to why I couldn't view them- and still not being able to even use the account. Did I mention that I called back in December about these issues when they first occurred and was told they would be handled? I waited 3 months and this is the end result... I hope after this review and the message that I left them and the call I plan to make that there is some improvements. But with this, I am awesomely sure I am going to have to go to another bank. I hear DCU is pretty good with their business accounts. I already have a personal account so, who knows?

Extremely poor account opening process. They are an internet bank but require a physical check to transfer funds to open a CD. Other banks have figured out how to make a secure connection to external accounts. If you are going to promote internet banking then you need to allow the technology to work.

I opened a cd and the process was much easier than I thought it would be. My 1st attempt was rejected, but it was only that I had checked savings instead of checking to transfer from. Tom followed up and was great. Sorry you had trouble.

I can't say this strongly enough, but this bank is absolute garbage! They pre-approved us for a loan and then after dragging their feet for 8 weeks, they came back and said "we're sorry for pre-approving you for the loan, we didn't know how to admit the fact that we couldn't provide the original terms that we pre-approve you at, would it be possible for us to change the original terms of the agreement?" It's the most unprofessional experience we've had with a bank (and trust me we use many loans for our transactions). Would highly recommend anyone stay away from them and not even waste their time, there are so many more reliable banks out there that it's not even worth the headache.
