I've had this bank since I got out of high school, and loyalty means nothing to them. When I first needed to get a credit card, they declined me, but now I have an amazing credit score with Capital One. There's tons of miscommunication about their debit cards as well. Some employees tell me I can order a new card and my old card will work, while others tell me my old card will shut off until my new card arrives. They take no responsibility for anything. I'm looking into switching to a better bank.

First Interstate Bank is so bad. Ever since Great Western Bank (the bank I signed up for) went bankrupt, First Interstate has constantly frozen my card and continued to be ineffective against fraud even though I make perfectly normal purchases. I don't give my info out anywhere, and yet in the past 2 years my account has been a victim of fraud 3 separate times. It doesn't help that they are unable to ship your replacement cards to anywhere except your permanent address, a fact not helped by the fact I go to college an 8 hour drive away, meaning I've had to change my account address to my college and have had to use that address everywhere. Like most banks, they are not open anytime other than when most people are working meaning they are unable to help during the parts of the week when I'm actually available. The only way I seem to be able to pay for anything is through a place that actually lets you swipe your card, or through PayPal or something else which actually takes the routing and account number. Tl;dr banking here sucks for the fraud exposure alone. Please, for your own sanity, do not bank here.

I have been with this bank for nearly three years. I have had five double payments withdrawn. Getting the money back is ridiculously difficult, like pulling teeth. It's just lies after lies. They claim it's in the mail, supposedly mailed out on the 10th, and after 10 days I still don't have it. They are just blowing smoke. I would not recommend it.

I have never dealt with a more inept financial institution. The changeover from Great Western was disastrous, and after this last incident of my money being held hostage, I'm out. I will be switching to a new bank first thing on Monday.

Absolutely horrible bank with the rudest teller/account employees ever. You would think in a small town like McIntosh, SD they would be polite. They don't deserve my business.

I've had to cancel my First Interstate Mastercard because they make it so hard to get your rewards. They will only transfer them in $50 increments, and you have to go to additional websites and have another login. It's just not customer-friendly. However, I immediately replaced the 1.5% rewards balance with a better card that has 2%! Good riddance. M. Clinton

Fear of losing money has FIB treating customers poorly!
FIB is not business-friendly. They are so afraid of being caught in fraud that they have treated many new and prospective customers very poorly. I have owned a marketing company since 1989. I created a new marketing business specifically for online sales. FIB opened an account, took my $5,000 deposit, then two weeks later gave me thirty days to close my account, saying my "business model" was outside their scope of acceptable business. Really? I think FIB must be having financial trouble. They claim they are being proactive against fraud. But I was recently told by other businesspeople that many are now withdrawing their money from FIB bank without explanations. Never have I been treated so poorly by a bank in my entire life!!

We have conducted business with First Interstate Bank for close to 30 years now. Yet, after six phone calls and an equal number of promises to remove the paper charge on my daughter's account (who is only 17 and should not have a paper charge), they still haven't removed it and are charging her monthly. We have deposited significant amounts of money with this bank, yet we are on the verge of closing our accounts and moving elsewhere. We are sick and tired of wasting time and dealing with ongoing lies!

The people are nice, but the fees just keep increasing without notification. Since the bank buyout of Great Western, where I was a customer for many years, things have changed. I miss that bank. Now, you don't get overdrafts anymore; they return your checks. I understand that the bank needs these fees to survive, but they are going to lose customers who would otherwise be paying those fees.

I want to write this review for a young man named Daniel at the Bend branch in Oregon. I have never had a nicer, more efficient, helpful, and respectful experience with any bank personnel or with any actual phone interactions. What a pleasant way to start my day! He deserves this review, and thank you, Daniel.

I haven't had a problem with the card. They have increased the amount of credit regularly. I can use it any where. I can see the balance on my app.

I've been paying on my loan every month ever since we got the loan. We recieved a letter telling us that payment was due for the remainder of our loan NOW (which was more than double our monthly payment). My husband called to ask if we could split that up and make our regular monthly payments so we could stay within our budget and they said, yes, absolutely, no problem. That was a few months ago. We're making our very last payment in 2 weeks. I get a call today from a woman telling me my payment is late and that this will negatively affect my credit. I have automatic payments set up so I know what was last paid and when. I let her know that we already spoke with someone about splitting up the invoices amount and she said it didn't matter, if we didn't make a payment before that 30 day mark. I REALLY don't appreciate this. We've been paying our loan on time every month for 7 years and now you threaten a ding to our credit over this? I don't know anyone who can make a car payment that's more than twice the agreed upon amount and be able to buy groceries. TERRIBLE customer service. Do not recommend.

I wish I could give negative stars! I was making additional principal payments on my HELOC and instead they added my addition payments in some made up line item and called it interest fees or something like that. When I called to get it corrected and see what happened the only answer they could give me is I was paying too fast and confusing their system. Ridiculous, and then they absolutely refused to correct it and said basically my tuff luck! My principle stayed the exact same although I had paid in one month an additional $2000.00 to principle. Not to mention the extra interest I had to pay because the principle hadn't reduced. They only corrected it after several phone calls, a talk with a branch manager and a threat of a lawsuit! They need to be shut down! What they are doing is illegal and unless you threaten a lawsuit, they won't help you!

My complaint has to do with lack of cooperation/coordination with Zelle and Key Bank. I hope someone from FIB customer support reads this and understands how frustrated a customer can be after dealing with FIB four different times trying to find out where my $300 Zelle transfer went after leaving my checking account to go to my grand daughter to her Key Bank account. The money left my FIB account on 7/28/23 and never showed up anywhere. It amazes me that there is no way to follow the money from my checking account to see where it ended up. It did not reach my grand daughters account and no one can tell me why. Not FIB, Zelle, or Key Bank. My grand daughter made a special trip to her Key Bank branch to see if either her savings or checking account received the $300 I sent her through Zelle. Each of those entities could not, or would not investigate the missing money any further They all claimed everything was working correctly through but no one could tell me where the $300 went. I talked to Zelle customer service to no avail and with a lady at Key Bank who could not help me other than tell me there were no deposits from Zelle on 7/28 showing a $300 transfer. Very frustrating to get no help from three different institutions claiming they did everything right and my money is still in limbo - out of my account and not into the target Key Bank account. I will be posting the same complaint to both Zelle and Key Bank.

COMMERCIAL BANKING: Truly a horrible bank. They have made serious errors, causing us to miss payroll, being completely inflexible for no reason other than to be difficult, and even have disclosed confidential information accidentally to people not associated with our business. These guys are absolutely amateur and truly not trying to support local small businesses. Please do not use them.
