I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Summit Credit Union caused me to completely lose confidence in the organization.
My biggest concern is what I believe are weak verification and identity confirmation practices, which in my opinion create unnecessary exposure to fraud and impersonation risks. The way my concerns were handled afterward only reinforced my lack of trust.
When choosing a financial institution, especially for major banking or lending relationships, security, accountability, and responsiveness matter. Based on my experience, I would encourage others to carefully evaluate whether they feel comfortable placing their financial trust here.

Hands down, the worst bank I've ever banked with. They lock my money in my checking and savings accounts if I am ONE day late on any of my auto loans. I recently applied for a loan to help pay for a medical procedure. No one called me to give me an update. When I texted the customer service number to follow up, the response I got was "you'll be getting a letter," and my response was, "so it got denied?" The reply I received was yes, have a good day. This bank literally does nothing to help their customers, even though I've been with them since 2018. My husband took out a loan with them, and for some odd reason, they didn't connect it to our joint account. Which means we had no way of seeing when it was due, resulting in my husband forgetting to make the payment. We called them MULTIPLE times to have the loan account linked to our joint account, and no one ever did it; they just told us, oh, we can't do that. Will definitely be moving banks ASAP. I wouldn't recommend this "credit union" to any of you if you like having access to your money and getting help when you actually need it.

My family and a neighboring family decided to join Summit in 2023. We visited the Greenfield branch separately to purchase CDs. We were both informed that if we presented a higher interest rate from other credit unions at the time our CDs matured, and this rate was reviewed and verified, Summit would match it. However, when my CDs matured, I provided verification of a higher interest rate to the Oak Creek branch. Now, I am told that because I have been a member of Summit only since 2023, the "Internal Department" will not grant me the extra interest rate. Why should the duration of my membership at Summit matter? I am very disappointed with the Internal Department for not honoring what was promised to two families when opening our accounts and CDs. I would like a response to my complaint. But Oak Creek, be aware.

You would think a CD is a safe investment, not at Summit Credit Union. The account was closed and money taken twice. Summit admitted they did it once.

Dishonest Business Practices and Disability Discrimination
I tried calling you twice to discuss an issue where they wouldn't honor your approval to notarize the State of Wisconsin POA (finances), even though I agreed to sign Summit's POA and didn't expect Summit to accept the State of Wisconsin Power of Attorney (Finances). In one of my voicemail messages, you will hear me stating that all Summit cares about is money. If I could, I would stop paying Summit anything, but I am not as disrespectful as Summit. I worked very hard to obtain my home, and just because I have cancer and am not dead yet does not give Summit Credit Union the right to make negative assumptions about an individual.
There was no reason for operations to have to approve the document again when it was already approved by operations on 3/20/2024. Michael Locke indicated operations wanted my designated agents to sign in front of him with the current date, and he would notarize it. However, I was lied to by Michael, Josh, Tim, and you, as well as whoever the EVP was who overrode your approval.
Expecting me and my family to return for a third time on Monday, March 25th, to wait for 2 hours to get approval is ridiculous and a waste of time.
It is very apparent that Summit is more concerned about getting their money for the HELOC and credit card rather than assisting a good customer who has cancer. I have always paid my HELOC and credit card on time and have never been late.
I called back and spoke with Karen at the contact center and canceled my checking account, and the money I had in checking was applied to the HELOC loan.
I will also be contacting our local news stations, filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, FTC, and disability discrimination agencies, among others, to draw attention to how Summit Credit Union treats members who are proactive in getting their affairs in order before they pass. I will also be reaching out to other local government officials. This is not how you treat individuals with a disability.
You all have been dishonest, and I don't believe anything any of you say. Your apologies are disingenuous.
I hope no one else is treated as disrespectfully as I was. Just because I have cancer doesn't give Summit Credit Union the right to discriminate, assuming that I would stop paying my HELOC and credit card. I am not deceased yet.
I appreciate the added stress this situation has caused me.

The worst bank ever. Face to face is not a common practice at this bank. They screw up all the time. They Charge you a ton of fees. I've been approached About paying someone else's credit card & Someone else's car loan. They've harassed me about both of these several times going through the drive through. I've given them money to pay overdraft fees and they have stuck it in a different account. I'm done with them. I'm going back to a bank where they want to interact with you and not hide behind a TV screen.

Ask yourself why this company is worth it to use. They use a slow banking system, have slow to answer and rude customer service, still charge overdraft while also not offering true overdraft protection. They have no HYSA and a website/app this is constantly down or broken. This bank has nothing that UW CU or even Online Banks don’t have. I would avoid, if you want to stay local, use UW

Wasted my time in trying to get a car loan from Summit. I applied and have good credit and provided all the necessary information but was told they cant approve me because I am purchasing a vehicle for my daughter who is a stay at home mom and her husband works so he will be helping with car payment. The only reason he does not apply because he does not have good credit right now. Another reason I was declined was because I live in Illinois and my daughter lives in Wisconsin with her husband and I do not posess a driver's license which is why I dont care because I won't be driving it. So they said that I could try another financial institution. There is a reason they have 2 1/2 stars now. Save your time and don't apply here. Not willing to work with you at all.

Was sent an offer for a money market special offering 4.89%. Went to check it out. No minimum was me mentioned on the offer. When I get there, now it is a 50K minimum. What else are you not being up front with?

I requested that Summit stop sending me junk mail. When I have requested this from other businesses, they have been very willing to stop their mail. Summit indicated that they cannot stop the process. Their personnel were extremely unhelpful and unwilling to provide adequate customer service. I would not think about banking here.

They have recently (June 2022) decided it was a good idea to combine all business and personal accounts onto the same log in and screen. They can not separate the accounts. If you want work and daily life separation, Summit is not the place for you. Since combining everything, we have had to set up new individual logins. Of course the information did not follow and they are missing information that is needed to relog into our accounts (even though it was all there last month). We have been into a branch several times with no avail. It is a horrible mess. I have spent hours on the phone and in person with them and NOTHING has been resolved. If you have a question, calling is not helpful. Someone might call you back right away or within a couple of days, or weeks. Customer service is horrible. They always have to ask someone else. Always someone else's job and you have to hold. Nothing gets resolved with out at least a 20 min phone call, and that is after you have waited on hold to actually talk to someone. Things that we liked about Summit are also not applicable any more. They have started attaching fees where there were none previously. They now have monthly fees and yearly fees. They have pulled money and put money in the wrong accounts. Even with a deposit slip with the correct deposit account number. Non of the accounts have even close to the same numbers. They have missed cashed checks resulting in fees for us which have taken months to figure out and for us to get reimbursed for the fees. We have already pulled one of our three business accounts. I used to recommend Summit, but now I say STAY AWAY.

This place is a train wreck. Here is a list of all the issues we've had with them.
1.) They didn't pay our real estate taxes even though we had an escrow account with them. We received a notice in the mail from the county with interest on top of it for their screw up.
2.) We signed mortgage papers in our car. Yes it was COVID, but there is absolutely no reason why anyone in the world should be signing mortgage papers in our car. There is so much paperwork you're signing you would expect them to sit you down (as most banks do) and explain what you're signing so you understand everything.
3.) They never gave us our signed mortgage paperwork. We had to request it.
4.) The pulled a credit report on us without telling us when we opened up a checking account. Usually a bank runs through chex systems. This was a hard pull. They should notify you if they do a hard pull, period.
5.) If you call, you will wait on the phone for 15 minutes or more.
6.) They allowed charges to go through on a debit card that resulted in overdrafts. That was an accident as we use the account with Summit as a spending account. Thankfully we kept our old credit union for our checking that we pay bills out of.
7.) Their overdraft fees are $28. Most credit unions have done away with them. When we asked why they haven't done that, they refused to answer.
8.) Try going through the drive-thru once, it will take you FOREVER!
9.) Try going to a location once, you might just find that even if you go into the building that you will be greeted by computer screen. This was also before COVID. They literally do not want face to face contact at some of their locations.
