Avant loans are relatively expensive compared to offers from many other lenders, but they’re among the best choices for people with bad credit who don’t want to put up collateral in order to qualify for a loan. Avant’s minimum credit score is not disclosed, but most customers have a score of at least 600. That’s 40 points below the start of the fair credit range.
Avant, an online lender and WalletHub partner, has personal loan APRs that range from 9.95% - 35.99%. Those rates are high compared to most competitors, but still better than many lenders that cater exclusively to bad credit. I've had the card for a couple of months now and am not happy. I paid my first payment before the date. I them received an email stating my payment had been posted to my account. Then 4 days later after the pay date I received an email saying there was an issue with my payment method and to resolve that right away which I did. I paid it again with another card then they charged me a late fee. They waited until the pay date had passed after telling me the payment posted on time to tell me there was an issue. They just wanted the late fee. I appealed to have the fee removed and was just denied. They obviously only want money and don't care about their customers. Not a good start.

I think they They have carefully put activities in place to cause overdraft fees such as sending emails that only go to junk folders, Do not specify on your login if a payment did not go through, Payment setup online will not reflect in your account for multiple days to allow maximum, probability for other charges in your account to cause a NSF. Setting up automatic payment for all of my other credit cards and loans always go through with not problems and are all paid on time with no NSF problems. They basically make it very hard to make a payment on time or notify you if there is a problem. They are one of the last lending institutions that try to live off of overdraft fees rather than promised interest setup. There should be an investigation into their practices.

Takes forever for the payment to take out of your account even with auto pay. If you schedule a payment for the 1st make sure you have money in your account for at least a week it’ll randomly come out days later. So if you’re wanting to make a payment in the due date good luck it’ll be late. And if you’re making a payment and needing to use the amount it takes about 10 business days for your balance to change after they take the payment. Statement balance takes forever to change has well from pending to posted. And even after the payment goes from pending to posted the balance you can use takes like 10 business days. I wouldn’t even rate it one star but there isn’t a zero star. This company is honestly the worse credit card company I’ve ever had to deal with. I don’t recommend at all.
I’ve had an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience with Avant. This company shows little to no consideration for customers facing real-life hardships.
I run a mobile detailing business, so my income depends heavily on weather conditions. During the heavy rain seasons each year in my area, I’m unable to work consistently. This past year has been especially difficult due to repeated storms and even equipment damage, which caused me to fall behind on payments.
What’s most concerning is that I’ve been proactive the entire time. I’ve called Avant multiple times each month, explained my situation clearly, and tried to stay in communication. Every time, I’m told they will “submit a request” to waive late fees—but every single request has been denied.
On top of that, I have documented screenshots showing inconsistencies on my account, including instances where Avant applied credits and then later reversed those credits. This raises serious concerns about account accuracy and internal handling of customer balances.
Despite my efforts to communicate and resolve this responsibly, I continue to be charged late fees that make it even harder to catch up. It feels like the system is designed to keep customers behind—paying interest and penalties instead of making real progress on their balance.
Other credit card companies I’ve worked with have shown flexibility and basic understanding. They’ve occasionally reversed late fees to help me get back on track. Avant, on the other hand, consistently falls back on “policy” with no willingness to support customers during temporary hardship.
Yes, I understand the agreement outlines late fees—but where is the accountability when errors occur on the account? And where is the customer support when someone is actively trying to resolve their situation?
At this point, I am considering escalating this further, including filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and exploring additional options. Consumers should be aware of how rigid and unhelpful this company can be when you actually need assistance.
If you’re considering Avant, be cautious. They may be quick to charge fees, but don’t expect flexibility, support, or consistent account handling when life happens.
Customer service and autopay are trash. Autopay didn’t work and I got charged a late fee. Called in about it and the rep clearly didn’t care to have the conversation. Asked me what happened although I’d already told her and ended the call. Never made sure that was my only concern, never thanked for my business just told me in 2 days they will respond about the late fee. I’ll be closing this card as soon as I get the response and pay my remaining balance.
Never received my card in the mail. Once I contacted them like they instructed, I was told I have to provide multiple documents just to show proof of who I am. Very inconvenient as a customer. I never got my card and obviously never spent any money. Closing my account I’m still obligated to pay a fee. I highly regret applying with this company and advise others to look at your options closely.
One star in my opinion is generous. I have had a difficult time with payment processing and then receiving emails that there were issues with returned payments. It took forever for payments to post to the account and to show the updated balance and available credit. I would not recommend this as a credit-building solution. Other companies have much better options to build back your credit. Best of luck to those of you who pursue this card, and to those of you with a positive experience, I am glad for you.

I had the card for 20 months, never missed a payment, and my FICO score increased by 200 points, yet they refused to raise my $300 credit line or lower my $75 annual fee. Now that I have better cards with higher credit lines, no fees, and much lower interest rates, it's goodbye to Avant; they are greedy.
Thanks for the reviews! After reading them and seeing the majority are 1-star ratings, I will throw this card in the trash. I don't remember ordering one anyway. So, it's more than likely a scam. I never received a credit card without the pamphlet with all the information. This just came with the card and one sheet of paper.

I never accept credit card offers that have annual fees, and despite what other reviewers have experienced, I was offered no annual fee and I do receive rewards, which I already cashed in for credit on my account balance. This company is a scam! Someone took out a credit card in my name; I reported this to them months ago. They ignored me and continue to impact my credit score twice a month.
