Absolutely fraudulent company, "estimates" your pay and doesn't tell you so they can save $$$, payments come whenever they want never in a timely manner so you're forced to go a month without getting paid (goodluck paying your bills), they lie directly to your face and expect you to be okay with it. 0/10 if I could take the star away it would still be more than they deserve.

Avoid this company. They are distasteful and have borderline fraudulent business practices. They offer little to no customer service. This is not a company you want to rely on if something were to go wrong. I highly encourage all small business owners to avoid this company at all costs.

I have been dealing with this company for over six months, and the experience has been nothing short of exhausting. After being approved by my assigned representative, he immediately went on a two-week vacation with no backup, no handoff, and no one available to assist or follow up. When he returned, he was then out of the office again for a multi-day convention, once more completely unavailable.

Over the course of these six months, emails have routinely gone unanswered or only partially addressed, forcing me to repeatedly follow up just to get basic responses. I escalated the issue to his supervisor, only to encounter the same problem—missed calls and delayed responses with no sense of urgency.

This is a company that works with people who are actively paying for services. No paying customer should be left waiting, ignored, or forced to chase support for months. What should have been a straightforward process turned into six months of frustration, delays, and unnecessary struggle, with little to no help from the company at every step.

I wouldn't recommend Guard Insurance to anyone. I should have kept my State Farm policy, but I was trying to keep my home, and my mortgage company recommended that I switch my insurance, so I did. This past summer, I had a major plumbing issue, and it looks like I'm going to have to pay for it for the next 15 years because this company is not covering anything. So don't choose Guard; they are terrible. You might as well not have insurance at all. Their service is terrible! I really wouldn't give it even one star.

Worst home insurance company ever! I would have thought that a company with the Berkshire Hathaway name would conduct business better than the experience I went through.

There was a hailstorm in our area in 2024. I witnessed literally every neighbor around me, in the back, in the front, and throughout the neighborhood getting new roofs. But somehow, our roof was not approved. Not to mention, I submitted a claim back in October 2024 that was not settled until March 2025. The lack of communication and status updates was egregious. I had to constantly reach out to the property adjuster after weeks of no communication. They sent two engineers to our home to look at the roof and somehow they determined that the damage was not sufficient for replacement.

And to top it off, a few months later, we were notified that they would no longer cover our home, and we were being transferred to another company.

If I could give this company 5 negative stars, I would. And that wouldn't be enough.

As a customer, you pay these insurance companies so much money every month, but then they want to find every reason not to pay you when they are needed. I would never recommend Berkshire Hathaway - Guard to any family, friend, or stranger.

Everything about this company is a scam, even the 3.1-star rating. I've read every review and every review gave 1-star because zero stars weren't an option.

My sister had/has ice damage to her roof. It leaks when it rains now. The adjuster says there's no leak; it's condensation. They offered her $1,500 to fix it... with a deductible of $1,000. So, $500 to repair the roof. She needs a new roof, not a DIY patch job. Also, they're dropping her.

After reading reviews and seeing how they're screwing my sis over, I'm determined to get this company put out of business.

Very poor customer service. If they don't like what you're saying, they hang up on you. Somehow I got reclassified, so I have to renew, and it's impossible to talk to these people. None of them communicate, due to the fact that three times I have had to give my name, my policy number, and my phone number. The email attached shows very poor communication throughout all these, I assume, home-based workers. Sorry to bother them.

These people always return and claim you owe more each year, even when you have done everything they ask you to. Seven years with no claims; time to find another company. They are complete crooks!

We had a truck crash into the back of our building in October 2024, causing extensive damage. Our carrier (Berkshire Hathaway / Guard) said they would pay the claim and collect it from the insured motorist. We provided all kinds of documentation for the repairs, but we are still not made whole after four adjusters and five months. The repair estimate was $57,000, but Guard only allowed $30,000; we can't pursue the insured motorist because Guard has kept our claim open in case more damage is uncovered during the repairs. The last communication with the adjuster was on January 10, 2025. Understandably, the contractor wants a large deposit upfront (which we have paid), but we are out another $20,000 to complete the work and have had to scale back the repairs. My advice is to avoid Guard—Warren Buffett has enough money—our claim is not even minor to him.

Filed a home claim on 12/26/2024 after our home burned down, and a month later we still haven't received or heard anything from them about our coverage or the acceptance of our claim. The representative is condescending and only talks about how many claims he has, implying that he doesn't have time for ours alone. Our house was a total loss, and with four kids, we lost everything.

Garbage insurance carrier. When they did the audit they changed my code for 3 employees to carpentry versus admin and that raised my audit to $7,000 at the end of the year. Fraud at its finest and can't do anything about it.

I was with this insurance company for four years, and when I made a claim, they found every reason why it's not covered. It's ridiculous how much we pay only for nothing to be really covered.

I had property damage in May, and my family is still living in a hotel with no work done on my house. We can't even move back home because of the property damage. The insurance adjuster won't even talk to me, and now I have received an insurance cancellation letter to be effective in January 2025. I have not received any money. I just want the damage to my home fixed so we can move back in before Thanksgiving. Now no one will tell me what's going on. Jennifer Cardwell

BH Guard and specifically their Property Claims Associate, Tara Fintel, who works for them, is unprofessional with her calls. She alone would be reason enough to never use this company as an insurer. She is condescending and difficult to talk to. She was incapable of receiving a simple e-mailed document listing the items damaged in our claim. Her response times are slow in addition to her attitude.

Furthermore, when trying to reach her supervisor, Cathy Stefanovic, as identified to me through their call system, she doesn't even bother to return calls nearly two weeks later.

We anticipate that this company will continue to prolong our claim and would not recommend them to anyone.

Our next steps may be to file complaints with the Texas Department of Insurance.

You're fortunate, citizens of the state of Texas, as BH Guard has recently opted not to renew any policies here in Texas.

For those in other states, stay far away from them.

On June 11th, I ingested industrial-strength Drano that was put in a water bottle by my boss. I filed a claim with them in June, but it wasn't processed until July 24, 2024. They asked me personal questions about my marriage, which had nothing to do with the injury on the job. They don't return calls and are unprofessional. I believe they are scammers. I'm still waiting for lost wages two months now. My bills are behind. I'm going to recommend to my employer to obtain other insurance. The company should not be in business; they are the worst I have ever dealt with. I think people should report them to the Better Business Bureau.
