I have not had many problems with Exeter Finance, but they seem to be impossible to work with on minor issues (we pay them a lot of money). I made a payment on 11/28/25, and it went to the wrong payment option. So I immediately went back in, made the payment (on the same date) with the correct option, and it went through. However, I was charged $25 for that mistake. When I called, they refused to remove that small amount. The representative was very nice and connected me with the manager. But the manager, Evelyn, was unpleasant about the situation, trying to make me look like a fool. It's a small amount of money for them, but a large amount for me as I am scraping together funds. I believe I'm going to refinance with the Federal Credit Union, which I should have done from the start. By the way, the manager said, "You can do whatever you want," which makes me wonder why $25 is even important to them at all.
Totally bewildered, Jon Michael Beyer

Horrible company. I was paying for about 2 years through Bridgecrest and decided I should refinance. Well I did and not only did they just drop my payment about $10 a month without even telling me the raised my loan back up to where I was when I originally financed through Bridgecrest. DO NOT USE THEM YOU'LL REGRET IT.

I financed my car back in April 2022. This is a disappointing company. They won't refinance after you build your credit; they only seek to maintain the high interest rate! We financed $37,000 at 12%, and as of today, 12/25, I still owe $20,000. Please, please look around before signing with them!

Exeter Finance is a terrible auto loan servicing company. After refinancing my car loan with them, which included GAP coverage, I made all payments on time for two years until my car was involved in a car accident that was not my fault. The car was totaled, and my insurance company sent Exeter 95% of the balance owed on the car. Then, the GAP coverage left a balance of $147, which didn't make any sense to me. I was left with that balance. In addition, I was reported to the credit bureaus for one 30-day payment after the insurance payment posted for the remaining balance. They dragged their feet with getting the required documentation over to the GAP coverage provider. They are absolutely horrible. Please do not deal with them if at all possible. I'm so very thankful that my credit score has improved tremendously so I can deal with better lenders.

Company is the worst ever; they are misleading you on interstate rates. The company doesn't try to trade the car out. Two transmissions put in the car, the dealer stated that they will not install another transmission.

I have been trying to get them to pick up the car voluntarily, but they have not. It's been frustrating. I have spoken to many people, and they continue to tell me they will send me a packet to fill out. I understand that I failed to meet the loan terms, but I fell behind and can't continue to pay. Feeding my kids is more important than having a car. I have parked the car with the keys in it, and yet, there is no repossession team to pick it up. I know I will owe the difference after they sell it at auction, but I feel like they're trying to burden me with more debt. The customer service is definitely not friendly.

Too high of interest rates; they do not report the payments correctly, so it only messes up credit worse to use them. I pay on time, and I have a payment they forgot to report as paid months ago that's halting my credit. Will never use or recommend this company to anyone again. They only want your money and will make sure your credit never moves up.

The insurance totaled my car due to hail damage, and Exeter Finance wanted more money to pay off the vehicle. Anyone who doesn't have good credit should avoid this company at all costs.

I didn't like all of the charges they added to your car loan. They applied all this interest daily as if it's a Rent-A-Car, but it's not. I will never use them again. I'm happy that it's paid off.

I've been with them for 3 years. I started with a loan balance of 21k, which has gone down to 13,000. However, in the last year, I have noticed that very little of my payments are going toward the principal amount, and oddly, I have never had access to my online portal. I'm not sure why—I enter my social security number, the email, and have set up the online portal numerous times and tried to make payments online, but it doesn't work. The online phone operator, which is a robot, constantly misleads me with information that is not accurate. The payments I have made never seem to be enough because I am caught up, then I am behind. I am not sure what's up, but the actual company seems really fishy and appears not to want customers to have a lot of access to information to keep them from understanding the potential scams and schemes at hand. I will be refinancing at the first opportunity I get.

Worst company I have ever dealt with. I got my payoff and wanted to pay it off. I was told I could make payments of $3000.00 and $2999.99, so I made the two payments and received confirmation for each payment on 5/19/25. They took the money from my account on 5/20/25. I called the next day after my bank refused the payments on 5/21/25, thinking it was fraud. I spoke to someone and asked why the payment was not showing as pending; they claimed the bank refused to honor the payments. I had to prove that the money was taken out of my account and sent a copy of the bank statement showing the two withdrawals. I gave the confirmation numbers on 5/23/25; it was found that the money was credited to the wrong account. Today is 5/30/25, and they claim the money will show in my account by 6/2/25 or 6/3/25. If my money is not showing by 6/23/25, I will be forced to retain an attorney. I can assure you I would never use this company again!

This piece of rubbish allowed me to move payment because I became disabled. Then they added $5,000 to the end of my loan when I went to pay off the deferments. This company needs to be sued out of business. They also tried several times to repossess after the loan was paid.

Pre-approval is a joke, no word, no principles, a bunch of liars with terrible customer service. If you want the worst experience, try Exeter Finance. I have two hard inquiries after I was approved, and then I was told they can't offer me any better deals than I already have. So, pre-approved, two inquiries on my credit report, and no loan. What a mess.

Again, I agree with too many people; I would leave a 0-star review if I could. Received my car at $200 a month with a $7,000 down payment. All payments were made on time, with the exception of one that was 3 days late. After 9 months of no issues, my car was repossessed, and my online portal was completely locked. It remained locked throughout the time I was with them, so I had zero access to the remaining balance, amount paid, interest left, etc. When speaking to customer service, I was notified that "payments hadn't been made for over seven months, and to get my car back, the outstanding balance must be paid today." $1,800 dollars later, which was supposed to include the repossession fee and whatever else, I obtained my car and went another 6 months with no issues. My car was gone AGAIN, so I called customer service, to which they stated that my "outstanding balance is now the previous repossession fee I never paid, and I've already been given the one-time grace payment, so I must now pay the remaining balance of my loan to get my car back or it goes to auction." Like many of us, I cannot go without transportation. $5,500 later, the contract of ownership and balance payment agreement signed, and the title yet to come, it's 3 months later, they try telling me I STILL owe them $3,000, and my title hasn't been sent to me because it's "still in processing." This truly was a horrendous, stressful, and traumatizing experience. Exeter and all who work there are the absolute laziest and careless scammers who are truly wrecking people's lives and livelihoods.

The worst company ever. Definitely zero customer service! Requested a payoff email to be sent to my banker. They requested I make a payment. Made the payment but never received the email, so I called back that same day. They documented the email incorrectly. Then they said it takes 24-48 hours to send an email! They had to request it. From whom, I asked. They said it was still Exeter Finance. 52 business hours went by, still no email. Called back, and they said I gave no email, then they magically found it. Said it would be another 24-48 hour wait on the request. Told me to go to their portal. So they can't call and rush order my email! And now, since they failed to do their job, they want me to do it! Absolutely horrible punctuation, responsible, and customer service! Oh, but the payment had no issues going from my bank to them in 24 hours! Extremely horrible experience, and I would stay away from Exeter Finance! You've been warned! Zero stars if I could!
