My company just (literally today) switched to a level-funded plan. The plan is identical to the old plan in terms of coverage, etc. I had been participating in the UHC rewards program and was waiting until the end to cash out so I could earn the maximum benefit. I logged in today to cash out and my rewards are gone on day one of the new plan. They unfairly deprived me of $237. No, it's not a lot of money, but UHC tries to encourage people to buy a tracker (Fitbit, Apple Watch, etc.) to track steps and sleep. It also encourages people to get flu shots, COVID shots, and all kinds of other things which help them save money on claims by covered individuals being healthier.
I chatted with a representative online who was of no help and told me that their representative who handled the renewal informed the employer about this. I assured her that as the benefits manager for my company who handled the entire renewal on our side and participates in the rewards program, I would not have waited one extra day to cash out if we had been informed of this.
It's also odd that they can cancel the rewards program earnings but leave everything else from "last year" in place. All of my claims and spending are based off the plan that just ended. Deductible amounts, out of pocket, everything—it's odd that they can cancel a benefit but not manage to reset the spending on day one.
I guess what everyone has been saying about UHC is true. They will do anything to avoid paying, even just $237.

United Healthcare is horrible! They have done everything they can to get out of paying a claim. After both the provider and I sent them the information they needed six times, they continue to say they did not receive the information! I have called five times, and each time they say they will take care of it. Now I'm in collections because they are not paying. It's the worst company I have ever dealt with. Total incompetence! Not trustworthy!

I've had UHC for several years. They have the worst customer service agents on Earth. I've called them many times, and every single time, I ended up talking to someone in the Philippines, who either didn't understand much English or they were not very knowledgeable.
So now that I'm ending my relationship with them, I finally figured out how to resolve this issue. Ask the agent in the Philippines to have someone in the USA call you back the next day. Trust me - they will do it. Trust me - you will talk to a much more knowledgeable person, and you are much more likely to be given accurate information!

Why have I been on hold with United Healthcare customer service for over an hour and 45 minutes, with no one picking up the phone? Initially, the robo-voice stated that I would be helped in less than 10 minutes. I always feel that a situation like this speaks volumes about a company's sensitivity toward its customers.

Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere; this company does not care about you or your health. The only thing they care about is money! And if you are considered a not-so-good customer because you have met all of your deductibles halfway through the year, they will do whatever they need to do and find a way to remove you from the policy and refuse to reinstate you!

My husband and I signed up for one of the Medicare Advantage plans in August 2025. I received my coverage card, but my husband did not. When I called, they had no record of an application. The next time I called, they had an application but couldn't talk to me because the address I gave didn't match what was in the system. My agent called them, and they asked her to submit another application, which she did. At this point, 3 applications, 3 escalations, and still no resolution. In the meantime, my husband has no health insurance coverage. I was warned not to go with United Healthcare because they had problems resolving customer complaints, if they were resolved at all. My advice is to sign up with them at your peril. This is not a good company you should trust with your family's healthcare needs.

Can't wait to get out of UHC
Things that are supposed to be covered - such as prescriptions and standard care activities - are NOT actually covered. UHC sets up obstacles like forms, price caps, and other impediments so that pharmacies and providers can't meet the pricing, file the correct forms, etc. The result? I am paying out of pocket, delaying care, and wasting hours - several days in total - calling other providers in their network for better options. I have found two types of options: high ratings and concierge only, or low ratings. The $800 I am sending monthly is 100% a waste of money. Their own website provides an inaccurate list of PCPs; it included a kidney specialist, a nursing home, a neurologist... as if these are appropriate contacts when in search of a PCP. I have found nothing positive in this experience. Never again.

A confusing array of services with a useless website to aggravate you through all its inconsistencies. Speaking with someone on the phone is equally unproductive, as they will give you different answers on different days.

Do not under any circumstances choose UHC Medicare Advantage Plan or any Advantage Plan as your primary coverage. Choose Medicare (Red, White, and Blue) as your primary, then purchase a Supplemental Plan. My mom has been through denial after denial for needed care and therapy. It's a complete rip-off for seniors!

This company is incredibly predatory and untrustworthy. Without any prior notice, they terminated our health insurance policy, leaving us completely uninsured and vulnerable. We received no communication, no warning, and no opportunity to address any supposed issue before our coverage was cut off. Their lack of transparency and disregard for the well-being of their customers is appalling. Health insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind — instead, they created unnecessary stress and hardship. I would strongly advise anyone to think twice before trusting them with something as important as their health coverage.

Greedy and dishonest company. I cannot say enough about what a terrible company this is. I would never condone any type of violence, and I am very sorry it happened, but I was not surprised to see that someone was driven to the point of shooting the CEO. They promised me coverage for hearing, dental, vision, and so many other things, including mental health. It is all lies. Just try to bill them for anything, and you will find out that the fine print allows them to avoid paying for anything. Also, I was promised an extra $200 monthly for utilities and groceries. After the third year, they cut that by $105. They also cut the coverage for hearing, dental, and vision in half. It doesn't matter anyway; when you bill them for anything, they find a way to avoid paying. It is insane because they are eager to have you sign up for an in-home visit, which must cost them a fortune. They would only pay $130 toward my glasses but want to pay me up to $75 if I consent to an in-home visit. First, it was $25, then when I said no, they offered $50, then $75 to let someone come to my home for a check-up, even though I am very capable of getting to the doctor myself. They must get something on the back end—just my opinion, but pretty sure I am right. When I refused, they called me three times a day for months. Even when I told them I would never consent, they started calling extremely early in the morning and late at night. They did not stop until I threatened them with legal action. Right now, I am waiting for October 15, the date I can cancel, and I WILL CANCEL THEM AS FAST AS I CAN.

This review is actually for United Healthcare's FSA accounts. They are absolutely AWFUL . Twice they have suspended my card/account for using it at the doctor's office. Isn't that what it's supposed to be used for?! I am not ignorant; I know what the card is for and I use it following the proper guidelines. Moreover, I sent in all the required documentation, yet they still suspended my card as they supposedly never received it. The customer service representatives perform their jobs professionally, so none of this is aimed at them. This is strictly about how AWFUL United Healthcare's FSA accounts are.

United Health Care is the worst company ever for health insurance. The customer service is horrible. Nobody speaks English and doesn't understand what you say. They cannot answer any questions. They ask you to spell everything you say. They know nothing about medications. It's really bad. I am switching companies in October.

Do not get UnitedHealthcare. It is the worst I've ever gotten. if you even, have ppo, pos, hmo is a little good not really. If you or a loved one have to go to the hospital get ready for an emergency blowout too look for an emergency room because no one not even, in New Jersey wants UnitedHealthcare . If you talk to an agent from this insurance they will lie to you about the benefits. Be careful. Ask questions if they accept hospitals and medical costs in your area because lying is not good for none of us. I'm saying experience from this insurance and costumer service is very rude and terrible the way they speak to the people with no education and no class. Very nasty and rude in my part. Be careful this insurance may lie even, the agents here too get financial profit. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sort of. Be careful. The benefits are a 3.9 stars to me. Check if your state accepts hospitalization because if a no you may get cheated. The agents are nice at first then they become rude when you are annoying them. Do research before getting UnitedHealthcare because anyone can get ripped off. From experience. Beware in my opinion.
