Narragansett Bay Insurance Company

If I could give zero stars, I would. We just found out, by sheer luck, that our homeowner's insurance with Narragansett Bay was canceled last month and we had absolutely no idea. Apparently, they stopped doing business in Connecticut and claim they sent us a letter back in March, followed by a phone call. I check every piece of mail and voicemail religiously... nothing ever came. No letter. No message. No follow-up.

Even if they did send a letter (which I highly doubt), one single notification is completely unacceptable when you're pulling the plug on someone's home insurance. There should have been multiple attempts, letters, emails, verified phone calls. You don't just drop coverage and hope the message landed.

To make matters worse, the representative I spoke with could not have cared less. The attitude was basically, "You're not our customer anymore, not our problem." No accountability. No empathy. Just a shrug and an untrue statement about our roof being an issue (it's nearly new and in excellent shape).

If it hadn't been for a letter from our mortgage lender, we would've continued living under the false assumption that our home was insured. Imagine if something had happened during that time?

This company operates with a dangerous level of negligence and zero transparency. If you're thinking of doing business with them—don't. And if you already are, triple-check that you're actually still covered.

We had a water pipe issue with damage over two floors. Rudy was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and hardworking in damage control, opening drywalls, measuring moisture, and providing further recommendations.

We decided to switch homeowners insurance to Narragansett Bay. They quoted us at $4,700 annually, which sounded good, but then the headaches started. A few days later, a woman came to do an inspection. She took pictures of every inch of the house, including our furniture.

Two weeks after the inspection, we received a letter stating our premium had increased to $5,700, along with a list of things they wanted fixed within a month, or they would cancel our policy. They expected us to install a new roof, even though the one we have is not even 20 years old and is in great condition. They also wanted us to replace our vinyl siding because, according to them, it showed moisture, which made no sense; it's white vinyl siding, and what they called moisture was actually just dirt since we haven't power-washed it in a while.

They demanded our oil tank be placed on a cement slab, even though it is currently cemented into four concrete blocks and has been like that since 1964. They wanted us to remove the slide from our pool, which has also been there since 1964, without ever having caused a problem. Plus, we don't have young children, so it's rarely used. There were a few more unreasonable demands they made, and all had to be done in a month. Eventually, they gave us another month to make the repairs and decided to raise our rate to $7,000. We decided to cancel because the rate went from $4,500 to $7,000 within a month, and we don't have thousands of dollars to fix things that don't need fixing. We went with Progressive and are now paying $3,062 annually.

Don't waste your time with Narragansett Bay. We used to have them many years ago, and they were wonderful, but a new owner took over a few years back and made it really tough to get insured through them. It was an extremely stressful month dealing with everything they demanded. They should have just denied us from the start!

Worst insurance company I ever dealt with. Had to fight for over a year to get a quote on my roof, and they never gave me enough money at the end of the day. Canceled 6 months ago and they haven't refunded me for that either.

Terrible company. Completely screwed me on my roof. Gave me barely enough money to cover the damage and the entire roof needs to be repaired. Definitely do not recommend.

Worst insurance company I ever dealt with. The company issued a policy then requested that eaves be repaired during winter storms. I provided them with a contract indicating the repairs were being taken care of and they cancelled the policy anyway after telling me that if the repairs were made the policy would not be cancelled. As a result I had to scramble for new coverage and incur a higher premium. Avoid this non-professional company.

At first, I insured only my car with Narragansett Bay Insurance Company. Their premiums were really generous, enough so that, for the first time as a driver, I carried full coverage without strictly being forced to. This turned out to be a well justified decision when I was sideswiped on the Mass turnpike five years ago, sending me into the next lane of traffic. My Audi was totaled, and I was distraught because I really loved that car. Thanks to Narragansett Bay Insurance, my claim gave me enough to put down a generous down payment on a new Audi TT. My experience with their staff during this nightmare instilled a great deal of trust, leading me to dump my former home insurance provider and change to Narragansett Bay IC. I do not know why one would need to insure an umbrella, but if I had an umbrella to insure, I would take out a policy with these guys for it. Excellent experience.

Narragansett Bay Insurance Company is a top notch provider which specializes in Homeowner’s Insurance. Their website is as modern as it gets, and is very user friendly. It is difficult to make a mistake, especially when it’s time to file a claim, since their most common options are right on the front page. Their prices are very reasonable and their protection is good. They offer discounts for a number of home features and locations. I also had no issues at all with their application process, mostly due to the fact that their staff is so friendly and helpful. This is a highly recommended insurance company for my dollar.
