I've had an account since 1992, but it was a CU which has merged with Kinecta. In my experience, Kinecta is in the habit of disabling my access to my own account, and they've done this to me twice, once on Oct 2023, and again at this time of 4/15/2026. They had me jump though numerous hoops the first time but eventually restored my access. But on this second go round, after providing them with soc #, DOB, copy of valid DL, contact details, acct #, address, most recent transaction details, age of account, name of a previous joint account holder, credit card # with exp, and more, they claim that I am "failing to verify". They have not provided any reason for the denial of access in the first place. I've scheduled an appointment with my trusty lawyer, in addition to a "virtual appointment" with Kinecta, as for no apparent reason this is all Kinecta is willing to do at this point.
I would advise people to steer clear of this shady operation. As soon as the means are available to me, I am fully closing this account and the credit card.
Edit: I just noticed that their slogan is a grammatical atrocity, too. "Banking done different". I would propose that they change their name to more accurately reflect what it is that they do. I would suggest they change their name to, "DisKinectYa"

Customer service is both terrible and useless. I spent all day trying to deposit money into my checking account. Yes, deposit, not withdraw. The ATM machine they suggested, since I was far away from the credit union, doesn't accept deposits, and the mobile app was not working correctly. Customer service did not provide assistance or accurate information. It's strange having to struggle to make a simple deposit. I am actually closing this account and going to another credit union with working apps, ATMs, and customer service that isn't clueless. Stay away from this awful place.

Watch these individuals. I was a member for a long time, but then they switched my account without asking, and it started costing $9.95 per month in service fees. After many attempts to reach them—they are very hard to connect with on the phone—I talked to a woman who said she would switch my account back to the classic version and refund the fees. That never happened, and now, after over 45 minutes on the phone, they offered three months' credit. I am closing my account, which wasn't easy. Now I'm seeing if this was even legal, and it sounds like it isn't. Hopefully, a class-action lawsuit will follow.

Having been a Kinecta member for years (and my husband many more), we had no issue until March 2025. They did away with our no-fee checking and sent a letter announcing how people were fortunate to be rolled over into a fee checking account ($10/month). There was no indication it was optional or that there was an option to opt out and select classic checking, which has no fees.
The misnomer for the new fee checking account is Protect Plus. I recently found out about three accounts my husband, who has dementia, had, with very little money in them. One of them was made Protect Plus and charged it $10/month fees. I only knew of its existence when I received a letter informing my husband that it was overdrawn, and they removed money from his meager savings account to cover their fees.

Sudden changes in Kinecta Bank policy caused my Direct Deposits to bounce back to my employer. Kinecta chose not to deposit my IRS Tax refund and stated that they do not accept checks from third-party institutions (the U.S. Treasury Department). They accepted my U.S. Treasury checks for the previous 10 years, so Kinecta no longer functions as a normal bank for me.

Today, August 25, 2025, I called to fund my CD which was opened over the weekend. The identification process with Tony (1485) at 10:47 am PST was excessive and made me feel very uncomfortable. I have been a member for over 40 years and was asked seven questions to verify myself: 1. Account number, 2. Mother's maiden name, 3. Joint account holder's name, 4. Direct deposit name, 5. Whether I have a debit or credit card, 6. Last 4 digits of my debit card, 7. California driver's license number. I have used the 800 customer service before and was never asked all these verification questions. I answered all the questions but was not pleased with the excessive seven questions. I am usually asked three questions. This experience makes me want to rethink doing business with Kinecta.

Deceptive, sneaky tactics. They will get rid of your free checking account and turn it into a paid account, hoping you won't notice so they can charge you a service fee.
Completely clueless customer service. You can never get a straight answer from the customer service; every person you talk to gives a different story. It seems like no one really knows how the bank works, their turnover rate is so high, and they don't spend enough time training.
They will micromanage you. I would get Zelle payments from a long-term renter, and they considered this business income and threatened to close my accounts unless I proved that it wasn't business income. This was the final straw, and I eventually closed all my accounts.
Long-time customer, even back when they were Hughes Aircraft Credit Union. Terrible credit union; I cannot encourage you enough to stay away from them.

They change guidelines for no-fee checking randomly. They changed all checking accounts to "Protect Plus" with benefits such as telehealth and roadside assistance, charging $9.95 a month as a service charge. They claim to have notified customers, but looking online, many are complaining that they received no notice. Of course, when you ask, they say you can opt out, but they won't credit you the fee that was already charged. I've been with them for over 20 years. They've become as underhanded and sneaky as any of the big banks.

Absolute terrible customer service at Kinecta. They ruined my father's credit during the years 2012-2016; he has never recovered. I think it is a bit predatory to give a loan with a high monthly payment and a high interest rate to a 19-year-old college student with only a single-parent co-signer. I don't think my dad realized how many fees and extras were going to be added on to the numbers we agreed upon. Please beware of their schemes.

At Kinecta El Segundo, I am always treated as a beloved family member. I am very familiar with Erica Sandoval, Diane, Sarah, and especially Camille Gilmer. Members of Kinecta since it migrated from the old Xerox Federal Credit Union. Today was the last straw, and (as painful as it is to switch banks these days) I'm closing this account!

This was AUTOMATICALLY "upgraded" for $10/month unless you keep $10,000 in the account. What do you get? Cell phone protection, telehealth services, auto club membership, and more. What the heck?

Unfortunately, Kinecta is living up to their tagline "banking done different" in the sense that they are "banking done much worse than other options". As of this week, Kinecta sent out mail to account holders stating their accounts will be upgraded to one with an expensive monthly fee and useless "benefits" unless customers call to opt out. I've been waiting in line to speak to someone from Kinecta to opt out FOR SIX HOURS, and nobody is answering the call. I'll be opting out of Kinecta and moving to a different bank this week.
