Pension Plan
My pension (old job where I also had a 401k and completely forgot about the pension) was transferred to American National. Finally after 2 years of calling just be transferred to leave a message or hung up on, I finally connected with a person. After updating my personal information with 6 different people I did talk to the right departement. Im trying to transfer a very small amount of money into my IRA. If I levae the plan as is in 30 years it will be about $20 dollars monthly in my retirement, makes sense to move it to my main retirement account. The man actually yelled at me about it. Yelled at for trying to move my money.
I was also told that it is ultimately up to my husband. The pension plan is from 11 years ago before I was married, but since I am now though, he gets to decide. They are mailing him paperwork that has to be notarized.

This is the absolute worst insurance company! You pay for insurance only to be told every 3 to 6 months that a supervisor is reviewing their agents' files to find out your policies aren't valid and that you have to pay a significant amount to reinstate them, despite everything being set up for automatic deductions. It's like, are the agents misappropriating funds? The customer service representatives are rude. The agents do not fill out your paperwork correctly. They do not return your calls and prefer to text, which is very unprofessional.

Absolutely the worst customer service. I placed my trust and confidence in this company to take care of my family when I die. No one ever answers the phone. It troubles me to think that when I pass away, my wife and children will be placed on hold indefinitely trying to file a claim, while no one answers the phone. You will be put on hold endlessly until the workday is over, at which point the automated system will tell you they are "now closed." I requested a callback, but no one called me back. I called on a Friday and was on hold from midday until they closed. The call lasted 4 hours and 37 minutes, and then an automated message announced that they were "now closed." I emailed them and was told they had higher than normal call volumes on Fridays and Mondays. I was surprised, as I didn't know that people are more likely to pass away on Fridays and Mondays. Their failure to hire more customer service representatives is why it's hard to find any positive reviews of this company. I called them out in an email about Fridays and Mondays and told them that was unacceptable. They have a recurring and repetitive problem over the years with no one answering the phone. I will be opening a new life insurance policy soon with a new company and will seek out any legal recourse I may have against American National. This next part of my review is an updated edit 2 days after my review above. Still, no one answers the phone, and still no callback even though I have requested one both days. I downloaded the online app and created an account to review my life insurance policy. Guess what? The app doesn't recognize my policy number. Maybe it's time to see if Texas has an insurance commission with oversight.

It's one of the worst insurance companies. The adjuster, Hunter, is the worst and a big liar. LLR should have suspended his license a long time ago. He is against the law. Don't waste your time, money, and health; just open a claim with LLR right away and take them to court. Spam Company!!!

Terrible service . I had a man literally yell at me on the phone threatening me of lapsing my policy.
I’ve also been hospitalized with agents calling me also again threatening me of lapse. I’d stay away from the company. It’s very sad because I’ve had my policy for almost 16 years .

Horrible service. No one will talk to you about your policy. Do not get scammed by these people. They take your money and you can't talk to anyone for service. They have no service.

This company is so horrible. They dropped the ball on issuing my mother's check to me and then wanted me to pay another overnight fee for something they mishandled. The service they provide in the claims center is not a service at all. If I have to, I will go to the top. Some claims supervisor by the name of Simone never contacted me. And you all are the worst at the job you are doing.

My first agent insured the wrong car—a car of the same make and model I had previously owned that I no longer owned. When asked to correct it, she was extremely defensive and unpleasant. American National also failed on two separate occasions to double-check the billing address of my escrow companies—then they canceled my insurance without even telling me. So, I went without insurance for my rental property and State Farm saved the day by getting coverage going quickly. Things were fine for a year with my home residence insurance until the SAME thing happened again!!! American National was sending the insurance bills to the wrong address for my escrow. No one from American National ever bothered to call me; they simply canceled my insurance. I had no clue! Again, I put a call in to State Farm to rescue the situation, and I will move all our car insurance over to State Farm as well. This second agent was also extremely defensive, blamed the whole thing on my mortgage holder, and when asked why he never called her back when she asked for the bill, he said legally agents can't make phone calls. What??

I had a vehicle hail claim, and they were only willing to pay for half of the damage. I received three different quotes, all double what American National said they were paying. I'm going to be dropping the six policies I have with them. It's not worth paying a cheap company for subpar results. Thank goodness it wasn't my house! I could only imagine receiving half the value for it. I'll be moving to a more reputable company.

American National is the worst home insurance company I have ever had. Living in SD for only 4 years, our home was hit by a very large hail storm. Due to the winters and being unable to get most of the work done, we only had a few months to finish. During this time, our policy came up for renewal, and they refused to renew it, citing forest fire potential as the reason. I mailed in the final receipts and paperwork to get the depreciation they held back, and still, after a month, I have not heard from them. Nor does it appear on my portal that they have processed it. Very disappointing! And they actually thought I would keep my auto insurance with them. Unreal!

A regrettable experience with this company. My home was destroyed in a fire on November 19, 2022. I had homeowner's insurance with this company, which included identity theft protection and a policy covering my firearms. I lost everything, and the company has refused to honor my claims. As I am 100% disabled, their refusal to process the claims for my burned-down house leaves me unable to afford replacements for what I've lost. Additionally, when I submitted my police report to American National, informing them that my identity had been stolen, they instructed me to contact another company to report the theft. I had not paid the other company for identity theft coverage; American National is misrepresenting my coverage, leaving me in a difficult position. It's extremely disappointing. I feel I am being discriminated against by American National due to my disability, as the company is also unresponsive to my calls. I am currently looking for a law firm in South Carolina to take legal action against this company. Their conduct is utterly reprehensible.

Absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. They drafted my premium for 31 years and then in January 2024, they quit drafting with no explanation at all. I received a letter dated March 2nd stating that the policy would lapse on April 6th if payments for January, February, and March weren't received, plus a late fee. The policy had always been drafted from an account set up for such payments, which was rarely checked.

I made numerous phone calls for an explanation, as did our agent, and no one could provide an answer except to say that they would send an email explaining everything. However, an email never came, and I decided to cancel the policy on April 4th. On April 16th, I received a letter from them stating that the policy had been canceled due to non-payment, still with no explanation as to why they stopped drafting. Avoid this company at all costs. Their customer support is the worst I have ever experienced.

Sorry, the company will take your money, but when your contract is done, they will do everything they can to make sure you don't get the forms you need to fill out on time, so they can charge you surrender fees. And then they add a market drop fee of around 6,000 dollars. You call them, and they say they will call you back, but they don't. I had money in an annuity and made money too. I decided to take it out when the contract was done. I've been arguing for 3 months. They sent me a check for 6,000 dollars less because of four agents going to send forms to fill out. Absolutely horrible company. Nasty agents and they do not get back to you. Their rates are also ridiculous. Do not recommend. Would never use again.

The absolute worst. Repeatedly lied to me about issued payment and ended up hiring a law firm to defend the policy. Treated me as a criminal, while well knowing that they are in breach of contract by failing to resolve my claim within the reasonable time allowed to investigate a claim. I would not trust this company as far as I could throw it.
