I almost lost my earnest money because the agent I was working with wanted me to put more money down than we discussed. Basically, I was trying to buy a property and I got prequalified twice since my credit score is pretty high. We signed the prequalification letter. When I put the earnest money down, they sent me a document explaining that I needed to put more money down. They denied my loan after I complained about it. I went to a different bank and everything went smoothly with them. I do not recommend this bank at all.

A few days ago, I needed help setting up Zelle payments on a business account. The woman who assisted me in getting this set up was the rudest, most condescending staff person I have encountered in years. She constantly interrupted me with statements like "Listen to me!" and made snide comments during our conversation. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with her for a simple fix that should have taken no more than 10 minutes. I complained to a manager, who listened to me and was very understanding. The manager actually expressed concern over some of the comments the staff person made to me. The manager submitted the complaint to someone—perhaps more senior managers—and suggested that I request a callback from those senior managers.
So I requested a callback from the senior managers; so far, I've heard nothing. It is not surprising to me that Bank of AZ has such mediocre ratings.

Zero stars is more accurate for National Bank of Arizona - Zions Bank. Inept, dishonest, with mixed up communication among staff, irritable staff when their mistakes are revealed, Zelle system dysfunction. This bank actually refused deposits from my tenants; they refused to let me Zelle over $2000 from my account. They should be put out of business.

They are unbelievably rude. They treated me like an inconvenience just for walking in the door. I should have listened to all the other one-star reviews. Never again.

I'm at Wells Fargo since 2021 and I'm so happy that I left NBAZ. When I call WF, I get a person on the line and when I need to come in on Saturday Mornings they are there!

The staff in my local branch are amazing, but as a corporation NBAZ is absolutely useless for those of us who travel. The pin I’ve had forever would not work with my new debit card while I was out of state. I contacted the customer poor service line and the most help offered was spin hint to be sent via snail mail in 5 days. Yah, I needed more cash NOW. What kind of archaic system are they using?? If it’s possible to do 100% online banking with other banks NBAZ is living in the past. Absolutely useless in this modern age and it’s time for me to switch.

Complete waste of time applied for heloc of about 200k. Throughout the entire process I’m led to believe i could qualify something close to that. 2 months later hardly any communication I’m told they will offer me 31k. This should have been advised after underwriting review not at the very end of the process. Not sure they are very competent either simply because they asked me to pay off a car loan that I sent docs in showing it was already paid for before I applied. Waste of 2 months and an appraisal when i could have got personal loan in a week.

I have had a 35 year relationship both personal and commercial with this bank. Pushed large sums to money through their bank. Over the last 4 years, their customer service and ability to handle individual circumstances/situations has plummeted. They have removed all ability to connect with local managers who clearly are Zions Bank trained. Gant George refused to give me access to his Supervisor. He never even looked at my account. Just spewed the company line. Wanted to send me to a customer service call center in some other state. I would encourage people in AZ to find a customer friendly bank. This bank no longer qualifies. Run away very quickly.

I asked the bank rep to borrow $20,000 using my own $20k from my savings account as collateral because I am trying to build up my credit score. The bank rep agreed and withhold $20K from my savings account by depositing the amount to secure my loan. I signed some documents and submitted the application for approval, the next day I called the bank rep for the status, I was informed that it was denied by the credit department, due to poor credit ratings from Experian credit bureau (my credit score 694)? Well this will close all my accounts with them very soon! USMC

DANGER DANGER. This bank is a rip-off. They will hold your money for days while you go into overdraft and then charge you. Once they can steal your money they will release the check. Call customer service to make a complaint and never hear nothing back. Will be closing this account and filing lawsuit on this branch for civil rights violations and consumer violations. YOU WILL REGRET DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS BRANCH. MIGHT WANT TO GO ELSEWHERE. They do not have their customer's best interest in mind.

I had a terrible experience with National Bank of Arizona when applying for a mortgage. We applied before actually finding a home to buy in order to see the exact amount we qualified for. We were told a certain amount based on our income, debt, and more. At that point, a signed letter was given with the amount, an employee signature, and a list of the information we had provided them. After finally finding a home, we began the approval process. It seemed to be going well as we already had a majority of the information sent in and we were already told what we qualified for. Nothing had changed on our end, so we were simply waiting for the process to continue. At that point, we were told that my wife's part-time income would not count towards the loan when it had previously been considered. She is in a doctorate program and works a part-time job that is flexible around her class and exam schedule. We were told that her income would no longer count because it was too inconsistent as her hours varied from day to day. This was very unprofessional and a huge issue considering they told us we qualified for the amount of the house with that income and knowing what the hours and pay looked like. My wife asked them if they would take her income if she was not in school and working at McDonald's with a fixed part-time schedule. They told her yes and denied our loan. I then received a promotion and raise at my job which gave us enough money to make up for not using my wife's part-time income when considering the loan amount. When finding a second home, we were qualified again for the amount based on all the information given and not including my wife's income. At this point, an independent appraiser was sent to appraise the home as the loan was FHA. The appraised amount came back at asking price and we were ready to continue the loan process. However, soon after getting the appraisal back, a bank employee told me that they did not believe the independent appraiser that they hired. I was then told that they went onto Google and found their own comparison home. Based on the homes they found on Google, they dropped the appraisal price by several thousand dollars and we were denied the loan based on the fact that the seller refused to drop the price to the new appraised value done by the bank. Overall, the customer service was terrible, disclosures were not clear, the application process was extremely inconsistent and bias, and finally problem resolution was terrible.

I have been with them since December of 2013. I originally opened this account as just a second checking account to have. I love this bank! No checking account monthly fee, they automatically reimburse my atm fees, so I can use an atm, without paying that dumb $3 fee! I have now transferred my direct deposit to this account and have since made my other account my secondary account that I hardly ever use.
