More than 150 years ago, NYCB was established to meet the financial needs of those who lived and worked in New York City’s Queens County. Since then, NYCB has become part of the local landscape—not just in its original location, but in hundreds of communities throughout five states, with approximately 236 branches.

I have had bank accounts in different banks for the last 50 years. This bank is the worst. For a new savings account, they will hold your money for 2 weeks for no reason at all. Not to mention the big mistake they made with my account, even after they managed to fix it. It is the worst bank I have dealt with.

As others noted, this is not a good bank. I had deposited a somewhat significant amount of money due to their high interest and customer service was fine (I'm assuming because they saw my account). However, once I tried to close the account, customer service is non-existent and the reps are arrogant and really don't try to help at all. I will never use this bank again and I would recommend others to stay away.

I had no trouble electronically transferring to NYCB for a CD. I live in Indpls. Getting the money out, however, seems to be more problematic. There is no possibility of an electronic transfer even if you agree to pay for it. My only option is snail mail to my address. They offered an overnight service but could not tell me what the charge would be. Feels like a mom & pop operation. P.s. there was one other possibility. I could open a savings account with them, but there was some confusion whether I'd need to leave it open for 1 or 3 mos. w/o penalty when I transferred out to avoid a penalty.

Horrible bank, arrogant staff, they can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Trying to get your money out is a big headache. Anytime there's a problem, you have to jump thru hoops to remedy the situation. I'd prefer to deal with cust care in India than these arrogant, incompetent staff they hire.

I signed up with them for a high yield savings account. The positive is that the interest they are paying for just savings is relatively good. It was easy enough to sign up online and fund the account. I have also initiated another transfer into the account. All I plan to use them for is to hold some cash at a higher interest than I was getting at my 'main' bank. So far I haven't had any real problem and the account limits are more than enough for my needs. The reason I took off two stars is the 9 business day hold on incoming funds. This is probably the longest hold time I've ever seen and certainly is the longest I can recall over the last few decades. Money can be removed instantly, there is no reason why it can be available instantly. Banks should be working to reduce hold times in this digital age not hold for almost two weeks. I'm sure they don't start using the funds to calculate interest until the 9 business days is up as well. I'll keep using it just for the interest rate. But keep in mind if you may need access to funds you transfer in a few days later you should avoid NYCB.

NYCB is the worst bank in the world so please don’t put any money in this bank. I have opened an on line savings account 4 months ago with an initial deposit of $500 which earned an interest of $1.64 as of 12/31/22. I tried to transfer the money back to my linked account on line, but the website didn’t allow me to transfer so I sent them a message to close the account and send me the check for $501.64 which was the balance as of 12/31/22, but I have received a check only for $475.59. I have opened this savings account to make some interest, but this bank charged me $26.00 for no reason. Please don’t fall in their higher interest rate trap and put your money somewhere else where you don’t get cheated.

Horrible bank, received several harassing phone calls about some issue and then when I tried to close my account they put limits on how much of my money I can get back each day and refused to send my balance to the original account and method of transfer that I used to fund the account. Then I spent hours on chat and phone support but got nowhere. Now I must waste more time warning others to avoid this bank. If you are reading this do yourself a favor and find another bank. They will do everything they can to hold onto your money and not give it back, even after requesting in writing that they close your account and return your money. I have to wait a month to get it all back! I even warned them I would be filing complaints against them in advance but they do not care. Avoid this bank!

Same experience as other users regarding wait time to talk to customer service. When opening an online high yield savings account they actually asked me for my user name and password for my other on line bank to facilitate the transfer of funds. I did not give it to them, but opted for the debit/credit test transfer to validate my other bank, which seems to be the universally accepted practice

This bank is like banking in 1987 with a small town bank. And not in the good way. They are not at all a digital bank. They don’t have Plaid, they require you to sign a signature card for a digital savings account, they require verbal confirmation on external transfers, they limit transfers to just $50,000 a day, the mobile app is bad, they hang up on you when you call in, and they make it very difficult to close your account. Don’t be teased by the high savings rate. There is a huge inconvenience cost to working with this bank.

Got charged a fee because I didn't write "mobile deposit" on the check. this was after it went through then they reversed it. I called and they refused to refund the fee even though it was a new process and no other financial or bank service I use requires this and I had been using their bank for over a decade at that point. for another incident help call I tried to describe my problem but the operator cut me off and kept explaining over me even after I asked him to listen to what I was saying as his explanation did not apply to my situation. I finally cut them off and made all my transactions use another bank. feels good to get rid of a load of useless deadweight.

They’ve offered me the highest credit line so far. Everything else with the card seems average however. Although it says New York, the bank is far away in Omaha. They’re cutting out these benefits in February... extended warranty protection, travel and accident insurance and auto rental collision damage waiver. The 5 listed benefits are ... roadside dispatch, zero liability coverage, global assistance services, lost/stolen card reporting & replacement and emergency cash advance.

Absolutely terrible customer service and experience! I was with this bank for over 10 years and decided to free myself of this nightmare! They decided to randomly cancel my debit card because of their security issues. So here I am with no debit card in the middle of a pandemic where there are places not taking cash due to coin shortage and spread of virus. I called them rep trying to get a new debit card as I was not able to have one mailed to me due to my living circumstances. They had no solution for me. The nearest branch was 3 hours or more away. I had reps hang up on me and lie about getting a manager to me. Just because these people are working from home, they are allowed to hang up on you? The solution? Opened a pnc account with debit card handed to me o on the spot and transferred all of my money out of this place and moved on. You just lost a customer of over 10 years. Try again...
