In 1932, 16 schoolteachers got together to create a safe place to save their money and provide low-cost loans to other teachers and their families. They named it Portland Teachers Credit Union. As our community grew, we grew right along with it. In 2005, we were granted a community charter in Oregon and Southwest... show more

After 25 years as a member, I'm disappointed with OnPoint. I requested a small loan during a business slowdown, offering proof of $85,000 repaid via PayPal loans, but was denied twice—first outright, then with an unreachable co-signer requirement. As a self-employed community servant, I expected the member-focused support that credit unions promise, especially with my long history and prior good standing. Instead, they ignored my full financial picture and dismissed my second review request, even after a medical procedure worsened my situation. It felt impersonal and profit-driven, not community-minded. I'm switching credit unions. Approach with caution if you're in need.

We had automatic payment set up from an Onpoint checking account to an Onpoint auto loan. For whatever reason, the automatic payments did not go through for 3 months in a row. Frankly, we didn't notice because the account is dedicated to paying the loan, and we don't look at it all the time. Instead of contacting us immediately to let us know the payments didn't go through, they let us go on for 3 months then affected my credit report by 60 points.
The customer service representatives refused to help me or reverse the report even though we always made payments previously and made the late payments as soon as we found out the originals did not go through. Which was only after looking at my credit report. They never notified us.
They insist notices were sent in the mail, but we never received them. This is horrible customer service. Had we been alerted via a simple phone call, email, or message in the online banking portal, this would have been resolved immediately.
Now my credit has significantly dropped, and the negative report will be on my credit for the next 7 years. Onpoint Community Credit Union needs to start contacting customers immediately when a loan payment is missed via phone call, email, and messages on the online banking portal.
This used to be a great credit union; now it is worse than a big bank. We are paying the loan off early and closing our accounts with them as soon as possible. Put your money elsewhere.

I used to love this credit union. I've honestly lost count of the number of times we've had to cancel and/or replace our cards over the last few years. Protections are nil, and there's always an argument and/or a long wait for reimbursement. At least one charge always goes through. After 5 pm, account assistance is overseas with a team that can't discuss details, so your only option is to just freeze your card. I've already had to cancel three cards this last year due to fraud and just received my first-ever account alert (for charges in Cyprus), so tonight I officially canceled my card for the last time. Taking my money out ASAP and moving to a bank or CU with a proven history of account protection.

Cynthia,
We understand how frustrating it can be to deal with repeated card replacements—that’s never convenient. While our systems are secure and built with strong protections, fraud can still occur depending on where card details are shared. Our goal is always to help members understand how best to keep their information secure, shop safely, and resolve any fraud claims as quickly as possible.
If you decide to continue banking elsewhere, we understand. Still, we would like to continue supporting you with tools and resources that can help you proactively protect your accounts, wherever you choose to bank. Consider visiting our security resource center, where you can find various free resources:

Thank you for your time as a member, and we wish you well in the future.

If you want your money stolen, your identity leaked, and absolutely nothing done to protect you, then bank with OnPoint. They will allow your card to be cloned and used overseas without any fraud detection or protection. They will leave the burden of proof entirely on you and do everything in their power to make sure you do not see a single penny returned.
It is clear they are dealing with internal fraud issues. Now, every time I log into the app, there is some new fraud alert. But when I opened my account, not one employee warned me that fraud was so rampant they would need warnings every time you call or sign in.
Absolute garbage. You would be better off stuffing your money under a mattress and telling the local tweaker about it.

My wife was with them for 14 years, and I was with them for 8 years. We've been happy with OnPoint for those years, until now. My health has taken me out of work for the past 8 months, and I can never return to work. My wife lost her job. She is trying to cover the $80+ overdraft by driving deliveries for a company. My SSDI is only a couple of weeks to a month away from approval, and the bank shut our account down when we were so close to paying it off. I will never go through them again, and I apologize for any positive report I have given them in the past. Do not go through with this cold-hearted credit union.

@OnPointCU nah you guys sucks. This stuff is happening everyday and you guys are robbing everyone of your members. Absolutely embarrassed to have banked with onpoint for as long as i did. They are the worst institution i’ve ever used to manage money. They are trash. Trust me! Replying to them does nothing they need to be taken to court and deal with on a large scale. This won’t be the first or last time you hear me complain about them. They are trying to rob you and prevent you from taking advantage of your money. Trust me

I have been a customer for over 25 years. I have had more than 20 different types of accounts, from personal checking to multiple business checking accounts, mortgages, car loans, and kids' accounts. Until the last year, I have been really happy with OnPoint. However, there have been five instances of fraud on my checking account. These were small charges that amounted to $200-600 each time. OnPoint investigates, I receive a new debit card, and I change my PIN number each time. The last two times, OnPoint supposedly investigated but determined there was no fraud, claiming "card was present and PIN number was input." I do not understand how this is possible when I was not even in town for three of the four charges, and the card was with me.
OnPoint, it seems that the criminals are outwitting the credit union. OnPoint says there is nothing they can do, and I am just out the money. I have lost over $700 due to OnPoint's lack of security and fraud protection. I am going to close all my deposit accounts and take my business to another credit union with better fraud protection. Be wary of OnPoint.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. First, we appreciate your long-standing membership and understand how frustrating it is to experience unauthorized transactions. Protecting our members is a top priority, and we take every fraud report seriously.
We understand that fraudsters use increasingly sophisticated methods to capture card details and PINs, sometimes without a cardholder’s knowledge. This can happen through skimming devices at ATMs or gas pumps, compromised payment terminals, or malware on personal devices. In cases of fraud, financial institutions can typically recover lost funds. However, when a transaction is authorized by the cardholder—such as entering a PIN on a tampered terminal or providing credentials to a scammer—those losses can be more difficult to recover. This is one reason why we focus on providing proactive security information to members.
We encourage all cardholders to take proactive steps to protect their accounts, such as regularly monitoring transactions, using tap-to-pay or digital wallets when possible, and being cautious of where PINs are entered. We also recommend reporting any suspicious activity as soon as possible.
If you’d like to discuss your unique situation and security best practices or have any questions about fraud protection, we’re happy to provide more information and take another look at your report. We appreciate your membership and the opportunity to serve you further.
Best,
-OnPoint

"I wish this bank would start sending follow-up emails to customers after banking like Maps CU does. I was at the West Salem branch this morning, where I normally bank. I asked the teller about CD rates, and she referred me to this gentleman who is supposed to be knowledgeable about CDs. The guy wasn't very pleasant from the start. He lacked the accommodating demeanor that one would expect from a banker who is, in reality, pleased to see a customer for potential business. He provided me with several rates to consider. I asked him the difference between Standard Interest Rates and Standard Annual Percentage Yield, given their difference in rates, but he couldn't provide me with a straightforward answer. I asked him to explain it to me as if I were completely unfamiliar with the terms. He searched for the answer on his computer but was unable to find it, so he called one of his colleagues in the office who provided me with a satisfactory explanation. Consequently, I decided to invest in a CD.
As he was preparing the paperwork, he was constantly looking at his digital watch and pressing a button. I assume he was checking either an email or a message. I don’t appreciate this at all because he was handling money, and it happened to be my money. Being distracted like that, he could easily make a mistake. Moreover, he asked me if I needed an envelope for all the paperwork. I said I would appreciate it. He handed me an envelope and simply placed it on the table in front of me without offering to insert the papers, an act of courtesy I've come to expect from bankers. Sadly, I walked out of there unhappy with the service I received and told the friendly teller up front about my displeasure with his conduct.
I wish a manager would respond to this review so I could provide the name of the employee with whom I'm concerned. Maps CU delivers far superior customer service and would follow up with an email if there were any concerns while banking with them. That's why they are tough to outperform.

Avoid at all costs! Onpoint gave me really bad tax advice and insisted we should change our business to a partnership in the process of our mortgage loan. The woman filled out a form to do so. My tax accountant and I spent three years having to undo what this Onpoint person did. My tax accountant said I should sue because Onpoint should not be doing my taxes as part of my mortgage. Now, this week I am dealing with Onpoint reporting me as "delinquent" to credit agencies because we didn't pay a $14 increase that we were never informed of. Our mortgage payment is on autopay, and it was never late. Onpoint Mortgage increased our monthly rate by $14, failed to notify us, and we only received a late payment notice on the $14, never a notification of an increase. Run far away from Onpoint! We left for WaFd with way better customer service.

I have been utilizing the bill pay function from my Advantis Credit Union for many years without issue and have set up a recurring payment to OnPoint for an auto loan through a car dealer. It had been in effect for 5 months and during that time the payment failed to post for several days on one occasion, and just yesterday I received a letter telling me my February payment was past due and a $15.40 late fee was being assessed. This is three weeks after the payment was due. After talking to my credit union, I found out that OnPoint no longer allows EFT bill payments, so the payments are sent by check via USPS. What decade is OnPoint operating in? I paid the amount past due as well as the next month's payment in advance, plus the late fee through the OnPoint website directly, but the next day I got a call from them trying to collect. Seriously, does anyone there know how to use a computer to check this? And why did it take three weeks to notify me via snail mail that there was an issue? They have secure messaging, my home number, and cell/text. I will refuse to accept dealer financing from OnPoint in the future and will use my own credit union.

Why does this credit union cap their good savings rate of return at $100,000? According to the manager I spoke with they don’t want more deposits they want to “stay little so we are not subject to a higher level of regulation.” I told the manager I had been a member for 47 years-he did not thank me for my business or ask to keep my business. Moving my money to another credit union who wants my business.

Absolutely terrible customer service for their Visa rewards (2%) card. Customer service people can't even provide basic information about the cash rewards. I had nearly $300 rewards which literally vanished from my credit card online information and said "$0". Nobody at the OnPoint Visa phone number on the back of the card could tell me about where the money went! They referred me to another "rewards" phone number - and that person hadn't a clue either. I just spend over an hour on the phone with OnPoint member services to try to get some answers. I spoke to a representative named Mackenzie who was not only rude, put me on hold several times and couldn't answer any question. Some time later I called back and got a really nice and caring customer service person who confirmed that I had just over $300 in my rewards and that it should get transferred into my checking account sometime soon (no date promised). I do not recommend OnPoint's visa cards to anyone and plan to close my account as soon I receive my reward do to the sub par service they provide. They should be ashamed! I've never been more frustrated with a credit card or company. Awful, awful, awful.
