Buyer Beware! I have been a member of this institution for 12 years. I have had several accounts, including checking, savings, auto loans, lines of credit, etc. In the last two years, I have witnessed a massive decline in this establishment. When you call, you wait 40 minutes to speak to a representative. My last auto loan title was lost, and when I went to ask for another one, I was told I had to reapply for it.
Numerous customer service issues occurred, but I stayed with them despite this. In November 2023, I applied for an auto loan, the same type of loan with the same year and mileage that I always have and was told by Herbert that I couldn't get the loan, citing mileage as the issue. I informed him that I had never had an issue with any of my loans. I knew his reasoning was flawed, so I went to Navy Federal, and the loan was approved in 10 minutes. I then carried on with my business. Later, for convenience, I applied to refinance the loan so that I could consolidate all my finances.
I applied for a refinance of the loan on January 13, 2024, and was called 30 minutes later by a nice young lady named Chrystal. She requested pictures of the vehicle, odometer reading, and all the other criteria needed to approve the loan. I was told that we would proceed once Navy FCU had the title. After confirming that Navy had received the title, I informed Chrystal. She presented the loan to her supervisor, and it was approved the same day.
I received the terms of the loan and a DocuSign application. After completing the DocuSign form, I sent it back. Chrystal was unable to download the documents from DocuSign, so I printed the signed documents and sent them to her. I waited to be informed when the check would be mailed, as it was scheduled to go out on January 26, 2024, the date the loan documents were signed.
This loan was fully approved and signed, yet Herbert, who is not Chrystal's supervisor, went in and declined the loan. I wrote to his supervisor, Ms. Chatmon, and explained that the loan had been approved. I sent her the signed documents and informed her of Herbert's decision to decline the loan due to his own issues. Ms. Chatmon knew the loan was approved, yet she still sided with Herbert, creating a breach of contract issue. If an approved loan application is signed, it binds the institution to the terms of the contract, just as they could repossess my vehicle if I defaulted on the contract by not making my payments. I never thought Shelby County Credit Union would stoop so low as to approve a loan and then let a supervisor's personal issues result in its decline. I advise against doing business with this institution; they are slimey and underhanded.

I called into the Sycamore View location today to order checks like i have done for the last five years. I was told by Jennifer that i had to go online or come in to order checks. I asked Jennifer if she would pull up my account and look in the check system to verify that i always call in and checks were ordered. Jennifer said she couldn't pull up the check system. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was transferred to Crystal who was Rude and Unprofessional. I asked since when and why they were not allowed to order checks over the phone? She stated it was Harland Clarke's new rule. She said i could come in and they would go on the site and order the checks. I asked her how would Harland Clarke know if they took the order over the phone or if i was there in person at the branch. I was confused since you are simply inputting the information in their system. It seems that every time you call there is a new rule. Also Crystal needs customer service training she really needs to learn the art of keeping customers happy or simply knowing how to speak when an issue can't be resolved. I have been a customer for many years and i am very unhappy with the direction in which the Credit Union is going. I called a couple of months ago to ask if i could come in and open another account. I was told that i couldn't because i already had two accounts. i spoke to Crystal on this occasion also and she was rude and unprofessional then as well. It seems that the Credit Union is trying hard to lose customers.

My husband and I have had a savings account with the Shelby County Credit Union for six years. The customer service at this credit union is top notch. The tellers and financial specialists are so friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. While we only have a savings account here now, we did have a car loan at one time. The rates were the lowest we found in the Memphis area. We also love how easy the application process was for both our savings account and car loan. Honestly, we would move our checking account here, but they only have three locations in our area...and none of them are convenient to our home or work. Overall, I would highly recommend the Shelby County Federal Credit Union to anyone in the Memphis area!
