Don't use this credit union. It went downhill since COVID. The loan process or refinancing will triple the effort, with too many requirements for a measly amount. They will nickel and dime you for every transaction and intentionally make you miss payments so they can charge more. Report them to the DFPI and CFPB if you have been victimized by their predatory fees.

Must live in limited counties within the San Francisco Bay Area in order to join and apply for a card. This is not indicated anywhere on their homepage.
Star One is a good credit union but there are a few negatives. The first is if you bank from out of State it takes at least a week, possibly two for them to receive and process your mail. They want to blame this on the Post Office but the fact remains most US mail is delivered within three days. I moved to a different State and they still don’t get and process my mail. The second major reissue is they don’t offer a wide range of CDs at competitive rates. Other than that their service and website is excellent.

Have had the Wells Fargo Visa for some 16 years and use it exclusively. Easy secure access to online information update to account..
Every year at tax time I realize how deficient Star One is. Generally, it's a good credit union, but their IT is horrendous. They keep only a few months of your history - 15 is my guess. That means at tax time, you'll be missing part of your data and will need to recreate it from printed statements. Shameful, really. They used to support MINT, which helped, but then suddenly that stopped without notice. Every year I go through this. I guess I deserve part of the blame for not moving on.

StarOne always makes doing business with them as pain-free as possible. I am very thankful that I've kept my membership and primary banking with them no matter where I may be living. The ATM access globally is wonderful and I get cash anywhere I need it at current exchange rates with no charges. Both loan rates and savings rates are always competitive with best in USA.

I have had a Star One Savings and Checking account for 10+ years. The credit Union has always been easy to work with. It offers all kinds of services such as loans and credit/debit cards. I am a big fan of there online and mobile banking services. They have had these services for years and they have always worked great for me. It is easy to keep up with my accounts, cash checks from home or on the go with my phone, and make money transfers.
The most serious issue I have faced was trying to add my wife to my account. We first lived in Texas and now live in Virginia and there are no Star One offices anywhere near us. It took me a while to straiten out the process and I was told that I had come into a Star One office. This was an issue since we live nowhere near a Star One office. We just gave up and never added her to the account.

I used Star One Credit Union to get a loan for a car a few years ago. Unlike a commercial bank, Star One was able to focus on offering competitive rates rather than maximizing operating profits. Thus, I was able to get a very good rate on my car loan. The loan officer was a very considerate woman who walked me through the process and terms of the loan. She was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all my questions regarding payment plans, amortization schedules, etc. Overall I recommend credit unions when looking for loans because of the competitive rates they offer.

I originally signed up with Star One Credit union because of a friends recommendation. I was moving back home and wanted to find a credit union that had good service and a lot of ATMs, and that's why I liked most about Star One Credit Union. Of all the credit unions in my area they had the most ATMs, which means I wouldn't be struggling to find one when I needed money. The checking account had minimum balance requirements, but they did pay interest which was nice. After forgetting to move money between my savings and checking accounts at my last credit union I decided I would rather just put all my money in one account and not have to worry about it over drafting.

I signed up with Star One Credit Union so I could avoid the fees from the big greedy banks of America. It was super easy to switch over, and I was very happy with the process. They had great rates and much better services compared to my old bank. Every time I have dealt with them, they have been incredibly friendly and helpful. I do wish they had more ways of accessing my money as it is not as easy and widespread as my old bank. However, it still fits my needs but just enough for me to still be happy. I would definitely recommend giving them a try if you're sick of fees and dealing with greedy corporate banks!

I was with Star One Credit Union when I was living in California, and they were a joy to use as a bank. When we moved we had to stop using them as our credit union, but would definitely recommend them. They had 5 different branches nearby all with 24 hour ATMs, plus you could find their co-op AMTs at 7-11 convenience stores too. There were minimum deposits required for their savings and checking account of $50 and $100 respectively, but as a part of that they also gave you free checks. Applying was easy, and the customer service at the branch was always great! They also gave you access to online banking as well which let us do a ton of stuff we'd normally have to do at a branch.
