Worst customer service ever. Many decades of having an account and they still act like they are doing you a favor to wait on you. If one of them smiled it might crack their face. Go to a bank where they treat you like a customer, not a burden.

Worst credit union ever. Don't get a mortgage from them unless you are willing to wait months! They treat their long time customers as if having their business doesn't matter.Don't waste your time with them.

I've been a member since 2014-- and was a member in the past-- and have found NC's SECU to be the best financial institution I've ever dealt with in the US.
In particular, staff at my branch in Grantsboro, NC, have been courteous, helpful, efficient and invested in me getting the best possible service.

Read this before you pay this bank for an appraisal! Just paid almost $500 for an appraisal to receive a home equity line of credit. In May of 2021, in one of the best real estate markets in decades, their appraisal was less in value by $27,000 (on a house between $200 & $300k) than one I had done last August. The appraiser was clearly not familiar with the area - the comps were not both from the same town, and one closed in 9/2020. I've at this point spent hours, sending them data on closed properties from Zillow, sending them data on house listings in the same town, and on my same street, but they aren't budging, nor have they refunded my appraisal fee. They still cannot explain the loss in value in one of the best real estate markets in history. This bank has friendly employees, but they are not modern with their practices. I would advise anyone looking to shop around for a mortgage or home equity line or any other loan before giving this bank your business.

I just walked out of SECU in On Fairview Rd in Rocky Mount, NC. I was pre-approved for a loan but it has been quite frustrating and the rules keep changing. They said nothing about a trade in during the application but now they want me to trade my car. The customer service is lacking in this branch. I’m also a member of Navy Federal Credit Union and it is a much better CU. The loan officer at the Rocky Mount branch was not very helpful and said very little the entire time. I will be withdrawing my funds and staying with Navy Federal Credit Union. Don’t waste your time and money with SECU.

I have been with the State Employees Credit Union for 20 years. I trusted them and build a relationship with them over the years. I did not apply for a loan from them until around 2015. This experience ended badly and they handled the situation badly. I had two cars out of the GM and Ford Lawsuits. I wasn't aware of the issues. Both cars purchased off a legit lot Modern Nissan and Honda. SECU could have received monies from them considering the lawsuit been settled. However, they went after the member(me) instead. I remain professional and friendly throughout my communication with SECU. I only ask if SECU was never going help me with the cars why waste my time. Note: The Cars- One car was traded in for another because it was not safe to drive. So, I ended up paying for 2 vehicles. SECU suggested I trade the last one in, too. That's a total of 3 cars 3 loans-I said, No. Now, A judgment for m because I am no longer playing the game. The car names Ford Fiesta and Saturn Ion. FYI Don't purchase a Saturn Ion or Ford Fiesta they will lose power while driving. I learned this on the expressway. Don't get a loan from the Credit Union. They are not for the people.

SECU has went down hill. One person tells you one thing, then someone else tell you another. I've been with them for several years. Leaving them within the next weeks. CSR reps need to be retrained, as well. I also have another bank I deal with and they are awesome. I would not recommend SECU to my worse enemy. They also tell lies.

Verified credit history, good score, had a history of two paid off vehicles and never a late or minimum payment, was denied to “not having enough positive history”. Two different times. They are absolutely a sick joke for loans. Only good thing is they don’t charge for hardly anything.
You can reopen a salary advance loan before time at State Employees' Credit Union. The operation is called a real time loan advance, and it means you may request an advance up to the amount of your credit limit through online banking, mobile banking, or by phone.
