United Bank

I am a senior citizen, 72 years old, and have been a customer at United Bank in Bellaire, Ohio for many years—I believe since they opened. Recently, I encountered a purchase that turned out to be a scam, and the bank initially gave me a refund, but later reversed their decision. A woman at the bank stated that they had called me, spoken to me, and that I had confirmed the receipt of the item and requested to close my dispute. However, this was not true. No one had contacted me, nor had I said what the bank claimed. Consequently, I became upset, and the woman implied I was being untruthful. Following further discussion, she insinuated that I might have memory problems. I felt insulted and demeaned, which is not how a loyal customer should be treated. I am not a liar and do not have memory issues. After such a negative experience, I do not think I will be returning to the Bellaire Bank.

United Bank's customer service is horrific. My parents opened a trust checking account over 20 years ago. Now, after both parents have passed, I am the next trustee and they are giving me the runaround, asking me to fill out papers, falsely claiming that it went through probate, which I refuse to do. On three different occasions, trust papers and other supporting documents were taken to the local branch to be uploaded; now, they're saying they do not have them. Be very careful when dealing with United Bank.

We purchased a small business more than a year ago and, unfortunately, inherited the United Bank relationship. Despite sitting in a branch for two hours with the former owner, UB still lists the former owner as the primary account holder. Read that again. Working with UB is terrible. You have to literally walk into the bank to get anything done, and even then, it does not get done. The employees in one branch told us we had to find an obscure IRS letter from when our company was formed to open a new checking account - even though we already have three checking accounts and a savings account there. Knowing we'd get a different answer at a different branch, we ended the phone calls and texts and literally walked into a different branch. The UB employee kept us there for an hour e-signing various documents to create the new checking account. Two weeks later, the checking account still does not appear on our dashboard online. I've called multiple times and they keep telling me it's there. What good is it if we can't see it? Stay away from UB.

I guess since Trump signed those executive orders, everyone feels they can discriminate without being held accountable. I've always kept a low balance in my savings, but now, all of a sudden, the account was closed without so much as an email or warning that it would happen. Horrible customer service. In hindsight, I guess I'm glad they showed me their true colors before I made the huge mistake of depositing a large amount of money into one of my accounts with them. God is definitely looking out. They're rude and cannot be trusted.

They deposited my paycheck into someone else's account... Twice! Then they acted like it was no big deal. To me, that's a major issue! I would not recommend this bank to anyone.

I have been in banking for several years and cannot figure United Bank out. Customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. They are not helpful, nor do they go "the extra mile" like I was always trained to do. The turnover of employees is frustrating, as their training program is lacking and new hires have to literally be trained by the customer. I miss the days when companies cared about customer service.

I have talked to probably six people, and no one is clear on how to help me apply a large payment to my mortgage to get out of PMI. It has been very frustrating. I would not recommend it.

United Bank started changing my personal information when my account values went low more than three weeks ago. The first time, they changed my zip code so I couldn't conduct any transactions for weeks, and I found out it was different from what I signed up with. The same thing happened with my phone numbers the second time. I couldn't perform any ACHs because I couldn't verify the account. I am trying to report this bank to the authorities.

These people are incompetent. It took me about an hour and half to open a savings account in a local branch. They did not seem to know how to do this. Then, their website says that for a Platinum Savings Account you can "Easily access your funds with an optional VISA® Debit Card." Well, it turns out that is not true. All they will give you with a savings account is a "ATM" card, not a debit card, even though I made it clear I wanted a debit card. Instead, they just sent me an atm card, and when I tried to use it to pay for something, it wouldn't work. Then they had the gall to argue with me over what it says on their own website. They said it was a debit card, it's just that the debit card feature was not activated. What the heck does that mean? If I can't use it as a debit card, guess what? It's not a debit card. Taking my money elsewhere.

I love banking with United Bank the people are all friendly and treats you like family. Also I love receiving a phone call on my birthday.

They are thieves. They think people are stupid. If you want to keep your money don't do business with these people. For some reason they think people don't know how much money they have in the bank.

Take your business account elsewhere. Inconsistency from different branches, horrible customer service, and funds unavailable for 48 hours and no one can tell you why.

Save time and a huge headache.

I’ve had this bank for 1 week.. wouldn’t let me finish “setting up my account” so I went into a branch. The lady, Kelly, was absurdly rude for no reason, acting like it was my fault. It’s been a week and I still have NO access to the 50$ I used to open the account. And on top of that, she refused to help me finish setting it up, and REFUSED to close the account. Wack. There are no words for how ignorant and a waste of time this bank is !!! Thanks for stealing my 50$, it’s a lot when you’re a single mother of two.

As a single mom of 4 living on a lower than I’d like income, I was so excited to have gotten such a great APR on my loan with United Bank. I’ve been working on improving my credit score for years. My score varied across the board and i was approved with a score of 662. I needed a car badly, mine was on its last limb. It’s easy to make my payments online every month. They even allow you to pay more towards principle if you want. Love that option! Will certainly look into using them for other loans in the future.

I really wish you could force a mortgage company to sell your mortgage. Nothing is easy with this bank. They make it extremely difficult to pay them online. This bank is a nightmare.
