Cashback at the register refers to a service offered by some retailers that allows you to withdraw cash from your bank account while making a purchase. When you pay with a debit card, the cashier may ask if you'd like cashback. If you agree, you can request a specific amount of cash, which is added to your purchase total. The retailer then gives you the cash from the register, and the total amount is deducted from your account.
For example, if you buy $30 worth of groceries and request $20 cashback, the total charged to your card will be $50, and you’ll receive $20 in cash. It’s essentially like an ATM withdrawal, but done at the point of sale, often with no additional fee, though some retailers may charge a small service fee.
