You can change the address on your Capital One credit card online, by phone, fax or mail, or by visiting a Capital One branch. Depending on the method you use, you will need your card’s account number, expiration date, and security code. You may also be asked to provide your date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you have a Capital One branch account, you will have to contact Capital One by phone or through the branch to update your address.
Capital One reports your address to all three credit bureaus. Creditors and businesses with permission to view your credit report retrieve your contact information from the credit bureaus, so make sure your updated address is on file with Capital One as soon as possible.
How to Change the Address on a Capital One Card:
- Online: Log into your online account and click on your name/icon in the top right corner. Then, select “Profile” to access and edit your contact information and enter your new residential and/or billing address, if different. Once you updated the address, it is effective immediately and you will receive a confirmation email. If you have more than one Capital One credit card, you will need to repeat this step for each product you wish to update. Keep in mind that it may take up to 2 business days for Capital One to fully process your request. Until then, correspondence may be sent to your former address.
- By phone: Call customer service from the number on the back of your card, or (800) 227-4825. You will need your Capital One 16-digit account number, expiration date, and 3-digit security code. You will also have to provide your birthdate and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
- In person: Visit a local Capital One branch and let the teller know your address has changed. You will have to provide documentation such as a driver’s license or current utility bill that includes your new address.
- By mail: You can also change your mailing address by sending an update via mail. Make sure you include a brief description of what you want done; your account number; full name; new address; your SSN or date of birth. Then, simply mail your request to the following address:
Capital One
Attn: General Correspondence
P.O. Box 30285
Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0285
You can always go the traditional route and request a change of address through the post office. This would forward all of your mail, not just your Capital One credit card statement.
For security purposes, the safer move would be to contact Capital One directly with your updated contact information. It can take the postal service up to two months to update your billers, so you’ll want your new address updated with Capital One quickly. Otherwise, if your credit card statement or other Capital One correspondence arrives at your old address, information such as your credit card number or other personal information could be stolen and used to commit credit card fraud or identity theft.
