A car is considered a classic in Colorado if it's at least 32 years old, was manufactured before 1975 or after 1976, was registered as a collector's item prior to September 1, 2009, and has passed an emissions test. When a vehicle in Colorado meets these requirements, the owner can register it as a collector's vehicle, which will allow the car to use special license plates.
Classic Car Qualifications in Colorado
- At least 32 years old
- Manufactured before 1975, or if manufactured after 1976 was registered as collector's item prior to September 1, 2009
- Passed an emissions test
Keep in mind that even if your vehicle is registered as a classic car in Colorado, it might not qualify for classic car insurance from certain companies. Each classic car insurer has its own eligibility requirements, so your car will need to meet those standards in order to qualify.
