I'm not all that familiar with Utah. I had an ex-girlfriend who left there because she no longer wanted to be part of the Mormon community. I'm sure it could be oppressive in some ways, particularly for anyone non-conforming. On the other hand, the residents of Utah seem more willing to invest in public services, likely in part because of their kind of community-oriented religiosity. There was another state I was much more surprised to see highly rated, at #11. It's South Carolina, a place I've lived. It has relatively worse rates of inequality, disparities, inequities, segregation, authoritarianism, xenophobia, hate crimes, violence, 'accidents', abuse, bullying, homicides, crime, political corruption, litigiousness, legal punitiveness, incarceration, lower IQ, high school dropouts, etc
