Discover® Checking Accounts

I've used Discover for a credit card and decided to open a savings/checking account to gain access to Zelle. It was a terrible experience. First off, it took several months to even get access to Zelle. Finally, after getting access, anytime someone sends me money, it's stuck for several days because I can only transfer out $1000 a day. I would expect more from a bank the size of Discover.

A primary reason for my establishment of a bank account with Discover was to utilize Zelle. I consistently receive a message stating my account is ineligible for Zelle because it’s less than 90 days old or for some reason that is confidential. Zelle has been contacted and relates no issues on their side and that Discover is the only one of their 2000+ customers that utilizes these business practices. Discover seems to be keeping some esoteric information inaccessible to customers which denies them access to this service and email exchanges with their customer service personnel ended with them saying they were sorry but they couldn't share why I couldn't use Zelle inside their account. What an insane business decision based on some obscure and unaccountable matrix! Maybe the new bosses at Capitol One will "discover" the policies and make the necessary changes.

Discover Bank is the worst bank ever due to my experience. Despite the length of time I have been with them, there were fraudulent transactions in my account and they couldn't resolve the issue or offer any assistance. Consequently, I withdrew my money from the account. I would not recommend Discover Bank to anyone due to my experience with this company. Every employee I interacted with was unhelpful and dishonest, and they would hang up on me as a customer. Each time I called back, I had to explain myself again, and the issues occurring in my account were never addressed. I advise others to stay away from them; while some employees are nice, the majority are horrible. Bad customer service is prevalent.

Do not use this bank! They have different agents with different responses. When it related to a promotion, I followed the rules and deposited the money which two agents confirmed would qualify me for the bonus. However, it turns out they refused to give me the bonus, claiming I wasn't qualified, which is incorrect! They have no standards and mislead customers all the time. Don't trust them; even the high-interest rate could be a trap!

I use this card for my emergency fund. They never sent me a physical card. I called to request a new one expedited, and they told me I couldn't get it expedited because a new one was already on its way. Transferring to an external account takes 2-3 days. I had an emergency and couldn't use my money when I needed it. When and if I ever receive a card, I will be moving all my money from this account to another one that sent me a card. I'm so upset, and the customer service people don't seem to care. I can't get access to my money when I need it. Don't waste your time.

Please know that Discover will not let you utilize Zelle for the first 3 months of your account. Policy... Could be fraud!!! Even when you have a long standing Credit card in above good terms with them, "Policy" says you could possibly be a fraudulent person. OMG There is no leeway or consideration for your good standing. Makes you fell like an unvalued customer. Closed both card and checking. BYE!

I just opened a money market account and made a maximum FDIC insured deposit only to learn that they were holding my money for over 2 weeks...anywhere else your money will be held for only 3-5 days. Really disappointed and will close the account ASAP!

Do not open any accounts with this bank! There is a cyber issue with this bank. You will get unsealed mail when your account says paperless. You will get to the store and find you can not use your card because the " SYSTEM HAS SUPPOSEDLY SENT YOU ANOTHER CARD" happened to me twice in the 6 months i had them. So many times the system is unavailable for you to get into your account. Do yourself a favor, choose a bank you can trust your money and your personal information with!

Hacked? System down? I don't know what has happened but Discover went down twice in the last month. The first time, could not deposit or withdraw for 3 days and couldn't pay rent (they held my deposited checks without clearing them). Last time, there was 'system maintenance' for 36 hours with no warning given to customers and you couldn't access money again over a weekend.

Things Discover doesn't announce? Paypal, Venmo, and any money apps DO NOT work with Discover checking. The Zelle app that is on their own site DOES NOT work either, at least for months now (a warning pops up when you click it). They recommended Walmart Money Services to get external account money into account and it doesn't work unless they have chosen to upgrade your debit card to the tap card, which I haven't been given. I can't run to another bank fast enough.

After losing a job 4 years ago I had both of my bank accounts get closed. So I had to use discover because no other bank would take me at the time.

The good things they used to do were they would never overdraft me, and they would never charge me a fee for something that didn't clear. My account was also over $170 due to someone charging something back on ebay but after 3-4 months during covid they actually mailed me a check so my account would no longer be negative.

The bad - I would only have maybe $30-40 in this account at a time to cover subscription fees like hulu, spotify, and so on. I had used it for instacart one day and something glitched in instacarts system which made them charge me $200 instead of $70 and I ended up being in the negative. Instead of helping me/covering the charges they charged back every single purchase including the valid ones when at the time there was money in the account for, and I randomly had to deal with 4-5 of my accounts being banned and explaining the situation to each one. This bank isn't the same anymore, it does super shady things and the one time that I actually needed to do a chargeback myself they pretty much told my to screw off.
