This is a ZERO STAR RATING. Webster if by far the worst bank I have ever dealt with. They take normal, everyday processes and turn them into multi-hour marathons of calling customer service to resolve. I spent 3 hrs to try to restore my ability to send my Webster checking account money from an external bank. 3 hours later they tell me your case has been submitted for review and IF approved we will restore your ability to transfer money into your Webster account. WHAT?! 3 hrs later and the issue is still not resolved?! And you have the audacity to say IF it is resolved? How do they expect me to pay the mortgage they hold if they won't let me transfer money into the account to ... give them money?! Are they going to make me drive to branch to pay it every month? Oh wait, I've been to the branch a few times for issues and they have told me to call the useless customer service line. Right hand and left hand don't talk and just point at each other to solve the issue. If I could drop this bank tomorrow I would. I can't wait to pay off this mortgage just be done with Webster.

Webster's quality suffered from the day they merged about two years ago. Today I've spent 45 minutes trying to log into my online account, but the site won't send me a verification code. So I called customer service, but they now have AI-generated voice agents that can only repeat standard questions and not actually help. The bank just keeps trying to cut expenses at the customer's expense.

I have been a customer of Webster Bank since the 1960s, before they were Webster Bank! I have both checking and savings accounts, as well as several autopay setups. This bank has become horrific! Both phone and in-person customer service is despicable. I've had to change my debit card four times over the last two years due to fraud from four different countries. The representatives on the phone tell you to go into 'your branch,' and the branch representatives and managers are clueless as to how and why and cut up your card while you must wait an endless time for a new card. I must go through a lot of work to switch banks and deposits, etc., but they give me no choice. Steer clear of Webster Bank!

I am sorry, I don't usually write reviews, but today I had a terrible experience with the Online Department. I tried to log in and the username was not working. I called customer service and was transferred a few times. Finally, I got a hold of someone. Then I had to go through a litany of questions to verify my identity, which took over 20-25 minutes. After all that, I was told that I have to go to a branch. I explained that they wasted 25 minutes of my life when they could have told me that in the first place. I am a busy lawyer, and 25 minutes wasted in the middle of the day is no joke. Terrible service - don't make me answer 5 security questions and provide 5 other pieces of identifying information only to tell me to go personally to the branch. This is terrible service.

Inept and incompetent online bill payment system. When customer support was called to try to resolve my "missing check", which was never received by the payee but was debited from the checking account anyway, a different answer was given each time. My personal experience with Webster Bank has been terrible!

I was a Webster customer for thirty years. They began charging me a $30 monthly service fee for my checking account, even though I had more than enough funds on deposit to qualify for free checking. I went to six branches and talked to six managers over the course of a year, and each one assured me that the fee would be taken off, but it never was. Finally, at the seventh branch I tried, the manager was very helpful and took care of my problem within two business days. Although my dilemma was ultimately solved, the needless time wasted and the runaround for nearly a year was clearly unacceptable. Needless to say, I now use a different bank.

Webster Bank has terrible customer service. You are better off entrusting your money/assets to a toddler. Every time there is a "merger," it is lackluster and, somehow, the services they offer become reduced and more inconvenient. Branch staff openly admit they do not get trained on the new policy updates. Converting from Visa to Mastercard was a complete mishap, and we still have not received some of our debit cards, even though they canceled the existing Visa cards and left us with no alternative. I recently experienced fraudulent activity on one of my accounts and was shuffled back and forth, being transferred from one barely understandable person to the next, across different departments, with no resolution. This banking institute is extremely disappointing, and I highly encourage anyone to bank elsewhere, as I will be doing.

This bank is abismal, and stuck in the 90s. Replacing a card takes a physical trip into the bank plus 10 days to arrive, or a call to customer service where they asked me to verify my social security number, name, special security word, AND to read off my card number in order to verify my information (the card that I lost....that I'm currently trying to replace....). After all of that I was told that for security reasons, he was not able to assist me over the phone and I would need to provide confirmation of my identify to a branch in person. When I asked why he wasn't able to help me, I was met with the same scripted response over and over and over, at least 10 times of pleading with him to give me information on why I couldn't order a replacement, and the same monotonous "Due to security reasons, I'm not able to assist you over the phone today." When I asked to speak with a manager he gave me the same scripted response.
Tldr: Absolute total crap bank, with absolute total crap infrastructure and support for customers. The people in the actual branch are lovely, but the bank itself is WAY behind the times and needs to update it's services and support.

Terrible Bank to Trust. The bank still can't fix email accounts from the day they were SNL. Breach of duty from the time that they open until they close. Don't fall prey to what I have had to endure!

Do not open an account here if you plan to travel outside of Connecticut or your local banking area. This bank has very limited branch locations and overly strict fraud protection, which means they may place an automatic hold on your debit card without notice if their computer algorithms detect any unusual activity or purchases. It has happened to me multiple times. I have gone weeks without a card because they deactivated it and did not mail me a new one, nor would they provide a temporary card for use in the meantime.
Today, they deactivated my card because I was out of state trying to make a $148 purchase at a Halloween store for my grandchildren's costumes. I was six hours away from my local branch and home area, and one hour away from my grandchildren's home in rural Maine—but it's my home state, so this should not have been flagged as unusual. The purchase was declined, embarrassing me in front of a long line of people and upsetting the kids. I had to call the bank to find out what was going on while my daughter paid for the items with her own money.
I cannot express how often this has occurred. They required me to repeat my mother's maiden name, the last four digits of my SSN, my date of birth, and the last four of my card three times to different people, including the automated system. I am sick if it and once I return, we are closing all our accounts with them. It's NOT ok to decline a transaction for no reason, claiming it's "for my own protection" when it's really just gaslighting and causing unnecessary anxiety for everyone involved.
