If you are planning to open an account with 1st Source Bank, I would advise against it. They take your money, and when you call them about it, they provide an unconvincing story, claiming they are required by government regulations to charge you the monthly fee. It is just another bank that believes they can do whatever they please with the money you work hard for. It is time to move on from them; they are disappointing.

Charging me way too many withdrawal fees and each time it was a ridiculous amount, I told them I was going to close my account and switch banks. They said fine, but then charged me again for withdrawing my last paycheck and won't let me close the account until I pay up some more cash one last time. What a waste of money!

Overall, I'm satisfied with First Source, where I've been banking for 33 years. But their online banking is a mess. They make you change your password every three months. This used to be standard practice everywhere, but it adds very little security: All the good it does is to slow down someone who has stolen your password just before you've changed it and waited until after the change to drain your accounts. How likely is that to happen? No one else I deal with online requires that.
Furthermore, if you wait too long to change passwords, you need to get a temporary password, which you get by clicking a "forgot password" link. Then they phone your number and give you a code. The voice that tells you the code is faint, fast, and sort of fuzzy sounding, and it mispronounces some of the words it uses to tell you what letters it's saying. I'm somewhat deaf, but I've never had a problem hearing any other 2-factor authorization phone call. I've never managed to understand theirs.
Finally, the last time I tried this, my wife, whose hearing is better than mine, listened to the phone call and wrote down the temporary password. I typed it in (and she checked that I had it right), but I got a "wrong password" message when I went on. So I'm locked out of online access and have to go to the bank tomorrow to straighten it out.

We have 4 accounts there, great customer service at the Waynedale Branch. We came from a local credit union with a lot of branches here in Ft Wayne, but there was constant problems getting our accounts mixed up. Good personal service at 1st Source.

It is amazing a bank can have a Board Member commit moral crimes and even get promoted. I would not trust this bank with your life savings. If Board Members have low moral standards. How can you trust them to make good moral decisions on your behalf. Simple find another bank to do business with. Poor employee behavior leads to a poor bank in time.

The 1st Source Bank in Michigan City, IN is great. The teller's there are so helpful and polite. They know me by first name and every time I go in they ask me how my children and I am doing. I was going into labor but had to stop at the bank to get money for the babysitter and all the women who worked there were so pleasant, helpful and caring. They have great customer service skills, a great team and free checking accounts for people with direct deposit. Even if a person does not have direct deposit it is only $5.00 a month to bank with them. They also have the option of getting a secured credit card, which helps build your credit! Keep up the good work!
I first began banking with First Source when I was 18. I have been using them for my checking, debit, and savings ever since. They are a very no frills bank and a bit behind the times. They do offer an online banking site, however the site has had a lot of IT issues over the years and many times I have to call to reset my password for seemingly no apparent reason. I have been tempted to switch to a credit union in the area that offers more appealing perks, and I probably will soon. First Source could be better about the quality of their customer service (I've encountered many rude workers at multiple branches, which is always baffling to me). Overall, First Source isn't a terrible bank and is okay if you just want a very basic savings/checking/debit account(s), but there are definitely better options out there.

I started banking with 1st Source when I was sixteen. It was very easy at the time to set up an account and while I was too young to use a debit card, I was able to easily cash my checks from my part-time job. I did not need much more from a bank account and was very happy with them for several years. Then later on, I got married and my husband had a car loan he needed to refinance, but unfortunately, he owed more on the car than it was worth. Even though I had been banking with them for years at that point and had an excellent credit rating, 1st Source came close to laughing in our faces over the issue and that was when I began to realize that they were not as customer-friendly as they claimed. Later on, when the credit union we eventually were able to get the car loan through started offering things like a percentage of cash back on purchases and the ability to cover insufficient funds in one account with money from another, my husband realized it was time to switch and we have never looked back. We even told 1st Source about our decision to switch and why, and they did not care or even try to apologize or work with us at all.
