After increasing my rate substantially several times (paid over 5 grand for a house that is 1600 sq ft and I bought for under 120,000. Fast forward to Hurricane Milton, I had substantial damage and this company wanted to pay out less than $400. Denying all things that we had documented.
FEMA deemed my house was not safe but we had no where else to go. I then paid out if pocket for a brand new roof, when I submitted the mitigation report (spent 16 grand!) no refund on price difference and are about to charge me the SAME EXACT AMOUNT prior to doing the roof!
Run, this company is absolute garbage!

A motley, expensive company that will deny your claim even with proof. I had to get an attorney, and they spent more money fighting not to honor the policy than just paying the claim. Crawl, skip, jump, run from this company!

I am upset at the drastic increase in homeowners insurance for 2024 and suddenly dropping the flood coverage that was grandfathered in for 5 years. My premium skyrocketed to over 5000. I had to lower coverage amounts, increase my hurricane deductible to $5,500, and get an additional FEMA flood policy for $1,000. I am dreading receiving my new notice come January. I am currently paying $1,000 towards taxes and insurance every month on my mortgage. I am not making any headway on the principle. I can't imagine what it will go up after the last two storms.
I will say that they were very helpful when I had a toilet tank crack and leak all day soaking my bedroom carpet and into the walk-in closet. They were prompt in sending out inspectors to verify that I was not at fault. Once they realize that it was a defective toilet and not my fault they sent out an adjuster. While I do feel that they low balled the the estimate to fix everything, they were prompt and helpful.
Insurance is such a racket. What they have done to Floridians should be illegal. Locals can't afford to live here any longer, because all affordable houses have been bought up and flipped for much higher pricing. Additionally our sorry governor has giving these companies free reign to charge whatever they like and drop as many people as they wish. Sure wish he would care about Floridians as much as he does about his own ego. We are sinking. And if rates go up any higher I see a lot of foreclosures in the future.

Unfortunately, we all have high rates. Its Florida! There are several things legislation has done to help with the increases and so far, it is working. Rates are slowly coming down, but it will take a while. As for flood, only a few companies offer to "include" it with home insurance. After Ian, the companies backing this flood coverage decided they didn't want to accept the risk. Flood is excluded in the standard home insurance policy. There are stand alone companies that sell flood if you can't get it with your carrier. The premium is just much higher.

While their customer service has been criticized, it's nothing compared to their actual policies. After Hurricane Ian caused some minor water damage and some roof tiles were displaced, we filed a claim for the damage inside. They sent one of their inspectors to evaluate the damage, and they didn't even look at what we were filing for.
Instead, they told us we had to get our roof replaced and also the gate leading to our backyard, just for good measure. When we attempted to show the inspector the actual damage, he just brushed us off.
The real nightmare started the following month when our premiums tripled, and they said it was because of all the other claims they had to pay, even though they had no intention of paying ours. Horrible customer service. Horrible insurance. Horrible company.

Denied our claim for wind damage after two private roofing inspection reports documenting wind damage were completed and paid for by me, and then they canceled our policy. Yikes! Just shows you how they operate.

Worst insurance ever! Never had to file a claim until now. After paying my premium yearly at a ridiculous price, I finally filed a claim for my roof. When the adjuster came out, I showed him the damage on the ceiling in the house, but he was more interested in taking pictures of the clutter on the counter than the damage on the ceiling. This company is a total ripoff.

This company is pricing me out of my home. I have never had a claim. My mortgage is tripling now because there is such a shortage in escrow. I think it may be time to move out of Florida before I have to declare bankruptcy. For the record, I am a frontline worker. This is why the state is losing us. In 2023, they increased me premiums by 450%. Now, for 2024, they have increased my rates by 23%

If I could rate 0 stars, I would. Security First is an absolute scam. In 2019, we started out paying around $2,100. In 2020, it was $2,500; in 2021, $3,500; in 2022, $5,500; and we just found out we are paying $7,600 for the year of 2023. We also just found out from our mortgage company that Security First dropped our flood insurance without notice. So, as of now, I have no clue what our $7,600 is going towards because I know our house isn't going to be destroyed by a volcano or snow (Central Florida area). They are absolutely taking advantage of Florida homeowners, and I hope that everyone leaves them for their own sake. Needless to say, we will be shopping around and if you’re reading this- you should too.

Insurance companies send notices of things like removing flood coverage. Check your renewal. I am sure there is a letter included in there. People just dont read the policy when they receive it. Insurance is heavily regulated and notices are required. The homeowner and the mortgage company get at least 50 days notice of all changes.

Got too expensive in 3 years. The premium started out in 2020 at $1650, in 2021 it went to $2400 for the same coverage, in 2023 it went to $3000. Then I heard from an agent that security first was trying to discourage new policies for people living along the coast in Florida, so they are probably also trying to discourage renewals. Time to move away from them.

Security First Insurance goes to great lengths to not accept claims. They told me I had no coverage for multiple damaged caused by a negligent contractor. I challenged the lame excuse the Security First Agent gave me and within 24 hours I was called by another Security First agent and wad told I was covered for all the perils I claimed. That immediately told me Security First Insurance is crooked and underhanded. While they have paid some partial amounts they continue to delay and outright lie about damage inspections to where I had no choice but to seek legal remedy.
Security First Insurance gets customers by Geico advertising home owners as you see in commercials and all over the web.
Geico DOES.NOT WRITE HOME OWNERS INSURANCE POLICIES IN FLORIDA. Geico merely administers the policies for and for a fee what I call scab low rated unable to earn their own customers Insurance companies line Security First.
Shame on Geico for aiding this crooked company to wealth.

Worst company ever. Stay away or you will regret it, we had this crappy company for one of our rental properties and they cancelled our policy out of the blue saying the roof was too old (Our roof was less than 20 years old), we went ahead and replaced the roof and sent the proof and they kept us wasting our time for months asking for more documents and claiming they needed this or that at the end they said we don't qualify because all the months we have been uninsured because of THEM! they wouldn't even offer a quote and said just go online. There people are pieces of Crap

Your agent should have been able to offer you quotes. The insurance company doesn't normally do the quoting. They issue the policy. Your agent is the one who services the policy and shops around for quotes.

Security First Insurance is one of the worst insurance companies out there. Within two years they doubled the rate on my small home with no explanation, no claim, and excellent pay history. They started using the excuse of credit rating to start hiking up the rates. I have an 810 with no credit card debt and a small amount left on my mortgage. When I called they tell me my credit is great but the reason they raised the rate is because of all the fraudulent claims in Florida and someone has to absorb those as well as the new bill approved that has allowed them to raise the rates. They tanked my escrow with the 1000.00 increase and my mortgage has gone up 300.00 a month to cover that. Look up Walter Malet, Security First fraud...A group of Security First employees racked up 300,000.00 in fraud and are now serving jail time. Unbelievable!! So Security First customers are absorbing that?!!! There are quite a few insurance carriers that cover Florida. You might have to get a 4 pt inspection and wind mitigation, $120.00....worth the price to get away from this company. Also, report them and their unfair business practices, raising customers rates just because they can.

Insurance companies cant raise rates without proving the need for the increase. The state regulates this. I don't know about the fraud, but I do know that insurance companies have insurance for theft/fraud so that wouldn't have anything to do with your rates.

How can Security First say my credit score of 819 prevents me from getting their best homeowner's discount in Florida??? When I call customer service, they won't tell me just how much extremely excellent my credit score must be to get the top discount for the lowest rate!!!! They said, "Call Trans Union." Trans Union says they cannot understand why the 819 credit score is not considered qualifying for Security First. Most of the customer service reps have thick accents and are difficult to understand, as well. Ugh!!! We called CSR Kelly, Security First. We explained that our credit rating is excellent. We asked WHY we got a letter saying our report wasn't good enough. She said because of Trans Union. So, we asked Kelly WHEN Security First pulled the report because we just checked it this morning and our score is 819! She said, "Well we didn't check it this year." That admission tells us that everything in the letter explaining our rate hike is a LIE!!! The whole letter was a fabrication designed to shift the responsibility of the rate hike onto us rather than on Security First's greed. And greed it is, in a state where many insurers are quitting the market. Those that remain can be profiteers. And, what is Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier doing about it? Impossible to tell. So I have downgraded my rating from 2 stars to 1 star.

The customer service reps for Security First have no clue as to why the rates have been raised. There was an absurd letter explaining the rate hikes because of credit but it made no sense. The CS reps don't even understand the explanation on the letter. First Security is counting on you not questioning it and just paying it. Report them to the state agency that investigates these issues.

I live in Panama city Florida and my house was destroyed by Hurricane Michael in October of 2018 ! I was offered $12,000.00 for damages ! After hiring a Public Adjustor and fighting with Security First, it took 10 months to agree to $62,000.00 in damages !! How can there Adjustor be off $50,000.00 !! Now we move foward to Match the 18th 2022 and my house was destroyed by a F2 Tornado, that ruined my house and is un livable. The head of the company AMOS FLOWER came to my house to assure me that it would not be like the Hurricane and the claim would be settled in a month !!! That can't be father from the truth !! They have stalled at every opportunity they could . Giving me only 2 months of money to live on !! At this rate it will take 6 months or more to fix !!! No better the second time around ,if anything this should be easier cause only 16 homes were damage unlike the Hurricane!!! Makes no sense to treat older people like this ,the waiting and waiting is anguishing to us !!! Hoping for better this time ,but we are tiring quickly and hope we make it through this ordeal of having to fix or home again for the 2nd time in 3 years !! Just heart broken ,this should not be so hard !!!! Mary palafox
