Avoid like the plague; this insurance company is one of the worst entities I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Their customer service is extremely rude, even if you try to be friendly with them, as if they are trained to deny everything in an unfriendly manner, even when I was just asking questions. Avoid them; I'd rather pay a bit more to have a better customer experience.

If I could give no stars, I would! This company is full of it. I paid $1,200 for home insurance on August 24, and in October, I had water damage to my home! My claim adjuster would not return any of my phone calls. The restoration and leak detection company left voicemails, and she still didn't return any calls. I called her supervisor today and asked for another claims adjuster, and she gave me the worst of the worst claims adjuster! The attitude is terrible, and after the home insurance year is up, I will most definitely go somewhere else!

This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with after years of paying premiums. Do not trust this company to insure your home! We had a claim regarding floor damage due to dishwasher leakage. The leak detection company person and engineer that they sent are with the insurance company; they benefit the company and themselves by giving an incorrect report. They make sure you don't get any insurance benefits, and with their report, they reject my claims, saying it is normal wear and tear. This company is least bothered about its customers. I was paying my premium for 10 years with no claims. If you're with this company, please think twice; this is not the company to invest our hard-earned money in for home insurance. Be careful, don't lose your money.

We had severe hail damage to our roof in October 2023 with a replacement value policy. The service with the first agent went very well, and we received a check minus our deductible to have the roof replaced within two weeks. After the roof replacement, I submitted paperwork in December 2023, requesting that I be reimbursed for approximately $1500 for extra costs exceeding the first check received. After 7 months, 11 emails, and about 15 phone calls, I have yet to receive my reimbursement check, a return phone call, or email, or a letter of explanation as to why I am not being paid. I did, however, receive a letter in July 2024 canceling my insurance policy. The reason for cancellation: they did not have my wife's Social Security number on the policy.
I can live without ever getting a final check. It really irritates me, though, that they never responded to me in any way and never requested the SSN in the 3 years I had the policy. (Good news - I got a better policy at a lower rate with another company).
I would recommend passing this company up.

Miserable experience. My agent submitted a quote to me from Universal Insurance Company. They are taking more than 20 days to approve it, although my credit is excellent, all documents are in order, and there are no issues. I am now in a bind because my current insurance provider is leaving the state, and I have to renew in 7 days (I lost 21 days waiting for them to approve my application). It keeps being delayed because their underwriting is overwhelmed (a small operation pretending to be large). Simply put, the issue is as follows: they offer the lowest prices, everyone requests their business, and they cannot handle the underwriting, causing extreme delays and stress to the customers. Shame on you; you will never get my business!

This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. After years of paying premiums, which were far from the cheapest, I had a claim due to hurricane damage. Long story short, this company ignored me for months to the point where I had to involve a third party. The third party also had no luck getting a response, so I am now in litigation with this company. Believe it or not, they are ignoring my law firm by delaying discovery efforts. Stay far away from these people.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY TO INSURE YOUR HOME! My mortgage lender almost didn’t make the payment on time but we caught it when we got a letter from the insurance company 2 days before it was set to lapse. Naturally, we called our lender and they overnighted a check for the payment. They also called the insurance company to let them know and verify that our insurance wouldn’t lapse. We were assured that it wouldn’t and I also saw the payment made from escrow so we thought it was taken care of. Then we received a refund check a couple weeks later for the full premium and discovered that they lapsed our policy with no notice and we were completely uninsured. Not only that, but it was difficult to get a new policy because we were flagged as lapsed for nonpayment which was NOT OUR FAULT. I would advise against ever using this insurance company.

Started out pretty good. Then my adjuster's phone was "no longer in service". I have sent 5+ emails, my contractor has sent multiple emails. I call "customer service" and they tell me they can't help me with the claims department. I call the claims department after being on hole for 1-2 hours EACH TIME, the message says "no one is available at this number to take your call". No idea what to do next.

We've had homeowner's insurance with Universal North America Insurance Company for over 20 years for our residence in Southwest Florida. We take excellent care of our home and never made a claim until last year, one for our roof due to damage from Hurricane Irma (we had a 9000 deductible) and one for our kitchen which sustained water damage due to a faulty dishwasher. We didn't receive nearly enough money to cover the kitchen repairs, and our roofing company had to sue them to repair our roof. Many insurance companies are calling the practice of roofing contractors suing their clients' insurance companies a scam. I disagree. We wouldn't have had to sue if they had simply approved our very legitimate claim. If the insurance company lost money due to the litigation, this was their fault for not paying our claim in the first place. Even still, the money we received for our claims was very minimal (especially the roof since our deductible was so high) compared to the amount of money that they have received from us over these past 20 years. They would have easily recouped their money within two more years by keeping us as customers, but instead have cancelled our coverage. I do not recommend Universal North America. They are happy to take your money, and will do everything they can to not pay, or underpay claims. We are very disappointed and I wish we had given our hard earned money to another insurance company these past twenty years.

My claim has been open for 5 months, when I initially spoke to the adjustor he said be sure to add everything & make sure its on the police report. After months of reaching out by phone & email for a status- probably abouy 20x still no response. Then, I get an email the other day saying they are declining the claim as it was only $256.00 which is a joke i was robbed over 10k and had several damages. This is the Worst insurance company ever.

They got my policy by buying it from Allstate. They don't have autopay and my due date lands on Thanksgiving/holiday. Could not make the payment since they didn't answer their phones, closed for holiday, and when I called the next week they said they can't re-start the policy because it lapsed 2 times before. Both times due to not having autopay. Seems to me like a garbage company, stay away. If you can't trust them to make a payment how can you trust them to pay a claim?

I usually dont write reviews at all but i have had the worst experience ever. This is the Worst insurance company ever. Even though my renewal was paid in time, they just kicked me out of the insurance and wasnt even willing to work it out. They said they had no grace period and they cant do anything when my mortgage company send the payment on time. Ridiculous, not helpful and very rude company. Not recommended at all.

Do not contract with that company, they will steal them, I had a flood in my house from a water pipe, I had to go with my family to a hotel, the contractor said that the repair would cost between 12,000 and 20,000 and the adjuster estimated the repair 2800 , I could not repair the house and they sent me back with my family to a house that had not been repaired, they do not answer the phone or emails, they are irresponsible, they do not comply with the provisions of the policy, more never in my life I will rehire them and make sure everyone knows who they are.

I was informed by my agent today that my policy was being canceled as of 12/27/2021 and that UNAIC was "pulling out of the state of SC and NC, for the time being and they are coming off all policies before 1/1/2022." My policy period ends 3/13/22. I have no information on partial refund, and of course I must secure a new policy.

Make certain to avoid even thinking about purchasing any kind of policy from Universal North American. Notice that the only good review is from one of their AGENTS. This company has dragged out my home insurance loss claim for multiple years and refused to pay for obvious fire related damages. They pull every trick in the book to not pay what they have promised. I made the mistake of purchasing this through GEICO and regret ever having made that costly error. DO NOT USE UNIVERAL NORTH AMERICAN for any reason! They deserve to go broke and are cancelling thousands of policies in Florida at this time since they lost tons of money in that state. RUN AWAY from them. Don't make the same bad decision as others that this company has FLEECED!!!
