I read through these reviews and felt I had to share my positive experience after my Home burnt down on May 22 2025. As you can imagine this was absolutely devastating for my family and I. We lost our two dogs and cat in a home fire. Luckily no one was home during the fire but we lost everything. Right from the beginning West Bend had someone out there immediately assessing the damage and connecting us with our claim specialist Joe Rathsack. Joe went above and beyond helping us find an Airbnb and getting some money in our pocket so that we could begin replacing clothes and necessities for our kids. He helped us find a rental home and they took care of 12 months of rent right away so we didn't have to worry about anything while we began to start the process of clleaning up and rebuilding. I am a quadriplegic and wheelchair bound so this may finding a proper rental home that much more difficult. West Bend took care of modifying our rental home so I could get in and out and be able to access everything I need inside of the rental home. Every time a bill came in that related to the home Joe took care of it immediately. We were immediately worried after the fire because my uncles home burnt down in the fires in Oklahoma two months prior. He was with State Farm and has had nothing but problems and an absolute horrible experience. I can't imagine dealing with a fire, losing everything, and then having to fight with your insurance company to get things taken care of. I cannot praise this company enough and will go out of my way to refer them. I cannot thank them enough especially JOE! Thank you Joe for taking the time to make sure that my family was taken care of!

For a "Company that cares," I haven't felt like I matter at all, much less cared for. It took almost 9 months to receive an offer of settlement that still left me about $8,000 in debt. All for living my life on my own property and having someone else's pet viciously attack mine. So much for "caring and making me whole."

I had an accident September 8th, and I am still waiting on my claim to be finalized. The only way I know the status of my claim is when I call or email constantly. There is never any information provided or next steps given that I need to take unless I initiate the contact. I would not recommend this insurance company.

Family stranded during camping (Oct 08) and called the emergency number for help. They said they have located my location, but there were no subsequent updates. They never came or sent me any update. We kept calling TravelNet Roadside Assistance (on 877 922 5246) and no one picked up. Then we called WestBend directly on 888 926 4244, and no one picked up. We ended up paying for a local towing service. We have lost our trust in Westbend.

This is an insurance company that collects money from people but will not pay for damages to be fixed correctly. I had a car that was two years old with 30k miles that got rear-ended. They told me the car was too old and had to many miles to fix it perfectly. They ended up fixing the bumper bet not the quarter panel witch had a large enough gap by the trunk seam that it leaked. I had to try and fix it myself witch didn't turn out the best, but I did get the leak to stop. That was two years ago. I am still very upset with this company for not doing their job and definitely would not recommend anyone buying their insurance if they want something fixed in the event something does happen.

I’m so thankful for this insurance company and I could go on and on about the great service I have had, but no better compliment could have come, but from the roofing contractor that I used, ( his first question was about what insurance company we had ) that said that WestBend was an excellent company to deal with and that he knew their assessments would be fair… That holds more weight than my praise!

I was in an accident with one of West Bend Mutual's insured. The other party got a ticket for deviating from his lane and side swiped my utility trailer. It has been over TWO months and can't even get a copy of the estimate that they wrote off of pictures and video I had to send. They missed half of the damage. Now they tell me I have to go and get another estimate. My contact Mitch dropped the ball. If you need insurance, go else where.

We had West Bend insurance for a policy term for a full year. On our next renewal we missed seeing the letter for payment and received a letter in the mail saying we were cancelled. We called our insurance company and made a payment for the full year on Friday 8/5/2022. On Saturday 8/6/2022 we had our first incident, which would not be considered major. West Bend will not reinstate our policy because the payment was 10 days late. I believe 120% that if we did not have an incident, they would have kept our money and continued to let the policy stay active. Most insurance companies will give a past customer a grace period on late payment, or if payment is received, the policy will be reinstated. WARNING!!! Stay away from a company this shady.

Over 500 days since my claim was filed. Over 365 days since it has been stalled with zero movement. Living in limbo like a gypsy, in a makeshift rental, hoping each day we can begin the process to return to our family home. No solution, action, help, movement in sight. I hope no other family has to go through this experience.
My claim stemmed from a burst water pipe that damaged a significant portion of my home. We initially worked through a number of things and then ended up entering the appraisal process where things have been stalled for over a year.
For me it’s the sheer lack of interest in helping my family move forward, to focus on our claim, to find a solution. The worst is being in this purgatory, not even knowing when we might be able to move forward or return home. I now have a 12mo son who has never lived in his family home. Feeling completely invisible during my biggest time of need.
Consider carefully the help you would want and how you would want your family treated. My experience with West Bend Mutual Insurance is the antithesis of what amazing customer service could be.

Worst company to have Insurance with. They just want your money and are not on your side. They are supposed to represent you and be there for you. This lady we had to go through didn't want to do her job and was quick to put me at fault. Also they will talk to you over the phone, use anything you say against you, and wont tell you the conversation is being recorded, if it even is.

Awful for bonds/ and getting anything done other than auto claims. Our "rep" from West Bend came unannounced to "look" at damage and never even walked to the site of the actual damage but somehow that was ok. She didn't even follow our company's protocol (and the city's) for proper PPE while during the pandemic! Total joke! The bonds process is an absolute nightmare and every time we call to get help, they tell us to go back to our agent, who tells us to go back to them! It's a never-ending cycle!

I have had to file two claims due to storms. First time, I received my claim check the next day and the second time within 10 days. Their reps are professional and kind. This is a superior company.

Horrible company to do business with. Slow to respond and when assessment are made as to damages very unfair to the consumer. The claim that was made was never handled properly and it took numerous calls and site visits to determine what the actual amount of damages were. Settlement was not fair in relation to damages that were indentified.

I've been with West Bend insurance CLAIM FREE for 20yrs. I run and operate a childcare center. On Thursday evening one of our parents contacted us to inform us that she had been diagnosed with the CoV19. Friday morning, we closed our center and informed all our parents. I contacted west bends insurance representative and asked them what the process was to file a claim. The representative at west bend informed me that for us to qualify for a claim someone at our center had to be diagnosed with the Cov19 virus. I explained to her that one of our parents had been diagnosed. She said we needed proof I explained to her that I would have the parent provide us with that documentation. She then said that there was another criteria we need to meet in order to be able to file a claim. She explained that a governmental agency had to close you down. The next day, Governor Pritizer announced that all daycare centers were mandatory closed as of Monday. I explained to the representative that we met both criteria’s and sent her an email providing her with a doctor note and documentation of the governmental closing announcement. She then called me and said that I still did not qualify because the diagnosis needed to be from one of our teachers or one of our children. West been having changed its qualification criteria not once or twice but now three times in its attempt to disqualify our center from collecting for loss of revenue. This business is not honoring their contract. This is a hard time for everyone, and they are doing the best they can not honor those small businesses that have been affected by this disaster. My hope is that we can collect on our contract agreement.

I have been with west bend for several years and claim free. I received a non moving violation not recorded on my mvr. When my policy renewed it sky rocketed. When I questioned the increase I was told it was due to my “careless driving ticket”. I explained I’ve never been charged or convicted of such an offense. I received a copy of my mvr and it was clean. I submitted it to them and they said they get their information from a 3rd party not the dmv. I contacted Lexis Nexus and they claimed they had gotten their information from my insurance company. After several phone calls to west bend I finally spoke to a supervisor in underwriting whom explained they could see I never received a ticket for careless driving, but since the ticket I received was not listed in their database they substituted it. I explained the reason it isn’t in the database is because it was not a moving violation. According to statute an insurance company can not hold a non moving violation against you as it does not pertain to your driving or risk as a driver. It has raised my rates to the equivalent of a dui.
