This experience tops the one with Chase Bank where they "misplaced" my linked savings account for three months as they depleted my checking account via overdraft fees. Despite my repeated inquiries over the phone and in person at many branches, they insisted there was no savings account. Eventually, they found my money "floating in the mist" and refunded the overdraft fees after months of disputing with them. In my opinion, Chase is much worse than any other bank.
Horrible Bank! Just Horrible!

A bank teller tracked me down in Walmart while I was shopping and asked me to open a bank account. Really? She seemed so nice! I thought she was a fraud pretending to be a worker from the bank, but it turns out she's legitimate. So, I opened an account thinking everything was fine.
I had no cash to deposit that day and asked the worker if that was okay. She said it was fine and that I had 30 days to deposit money or else I would be charged a fee. I thought, okay, my direct deposit would kick in before 30 days, so I'm good.
After two direct deposits (of just a very small percentage of my check), I later noticed a $12 maintenance fee. I thought maybe the bank teller had misinformed me about the 30-day limitation on the $0 balance, so I did not contact the bank about it. Then, today, March 27th, 2024 (after three deposits), I noticed another $12 maintenance fee. That's when I realized that I'm being charged a monthly fee for just having the account open. Really? I wish I had known this was not a free checking account. I thought for sure I had asked the bank teller upfront if it was free checking. I guess she was so focused on a commission and getting me to sign up.
So, I searched online today and found more horrible news about this bank that they, of course, purposely hide from you! There's most definitely a catch to this horrible bank!
They charge you a $12 maintenance fee each month! And if you close your account within the first 90 days, they charge you a $25 fee.
Here is the breakdown of my calculations:
(2024)
Jan 24th (Balance: $0.00) - Opened my account
Feb 14th (Balance: $57.81) - 1st deposit of $57.81
Feb 24th (Balance: $45.81) - $12 Maintenance Fee
Feb 28th (Balance: $86.83) - 2nd deposit of $41.02
Mar 14th (Balance: $144.64) - 3rd deposit of $57.81
Mar 24th (Balance: $132.64) - $12 Maintenance Fee
I immediately contacted my job's payroll department and removed that bank from my direct deposit. There was about to be another deposit in 2 days. No way! I'm closing that account today or tomorrow, promptly!
NOTE:
If I keep my account open for another month, that would be $12 x 3 = $36.
I'm going to close my account as soon as possible; so, that will be $12 x 2 = $24 + $25 = $49.
Either way, I'm out nearly $50 for having this bank account open for only 2 months of use!
