Management atrocious. General staff, fine. Main issue (13-years) problem making Card payments by phone. Ex. Security question “What date did you open your account?” Whaa!!? All I want is to pay my Statement balance!! The former Mgr (Mr McGrail) & Board Chair were outstanding, understanding; attempted to help, and encouraged me to phone Branch rather than Card servicer. Worked for awhile. Currently, impossible to reach Board; stiffed by the HSq Branch. I was reluctant to post, as a portion goes to scholarship funds. Oddly, the “culprit” is the Card servicer, but the mgmts attitude, arrogance and inability to recognize the stress placed on customer & staff, over a problem other Cards handle in 5-minutes, make the HUECU a prime example of a corporate mantra - “We don’t care. We don’t have to.”

The HUECU Platinum Mastercard is a great credit card, high limit, no interest for the first 12 months, low interest after that, no APR. Easy online access to e-Statements, my FICO score, credit card rewards, and customer service. Very good credit union too.

We're long-standing members of HUECU. We'd never had a problem with them until we traveled outside the US after first alerting them that we'd be traveling. Sure enough, the first time we tried to use our credit card overseas (airport), it was blocked. We never could get the situation fixed while overseas and were stranded because of it. We had to wait 'til we got back to the US to get a new card. Since then, our card keeps getting flagged for fraud and blocked. This has happened so many times now that we carry an extra credit card just in case...
Condescending, unreliable, dismissive, and unprofessional, HUECU has been so uniformly negative for us, from the start to now, that we're very seriously considering severing all our ties with HUECU.

HUECU hardly ever abides by the law, including as emphasized by the CFPB. It continuously, constantly illegally charges interest in contravention of applicable law. It also often makes false statements, including in written credit card statements I am lucky enough even to get eventually, after written request & long delays. This includes after I wrote repeatedly requesting that it please correct uncalled for interest charges appearing online that might appear on the statement & other unwarranted interest charges. There is not enough space here or elsewhere on review internet sites even to state the abundance of terrible conduct by it. They are extremely arrogant & give misleading, inaccurate, deliberately false statements it goes back on unreliably on a regular basis, orally & in writing. Since I have learned it is part of Harvard University & uses Harvard University email, I intend to abide by my conscience not ever to give a single penny again to Harvard University that might subsidize university efforts. Therefore, HUECU will not receive support or funds by me, directly or indirectly, as a result.

Considering credit union status, HUECU behaves in a more arrogant way. Application process is not transparent, prone to unilateral action. Not a bad credit union, but will never survive as an independent entity away from Harvard & affiliated institutions.

We have a checking account at HUECU. Last month was the first time we were below the required balance to keep the account free of charge. I immediately send an email to downgrade the account and asked to be refunded the fee (as this was our first time). No can do. I'm very disappointed. I was under the impression Credit Unions were more customer friendly. Might just go back to BAC.

I love banking with HUECU! Not only are their interest rates great, but their web interface was fabulous. You don't always find that with smaller banks and credit unions. And the customer service is fabulous. Several times, I've needed cash and found that I'd forgotten my purse. I could go in, explain my situation, and the teller would quiz me about my account (amount of last deposit, my birthday and address, what accounts I hold there) and then give me the money I needed. You won't find that kind of service with a big chain! The only complaint I have is that it's not always easy to find a place to make a deposit.

I am currently a member of this credit union. The place I used to work at had a branch in the building, so it was only natural I would join. I used to go down there and cash my weekly checks without them giving me any hassles about not being able to cover the amount with my balance. In all of the years that I have been doing business with them, I haven't had any issues. I kept my account, but I do not use it as much since it is not very convenient to where I live or work at this time. The customer service there is top-notch and I have never had anyone deal with me in a manner that was less than friendly. I wish they would open more locations in my area.
