I got medical and vision through Pennie last month. My medical has no premium, but I chose a vision plan with a nice low premium. When the premium bill for my vision came, I set up an account and paid it with no problem. The record is on my HSA card account, but I don't have any confirmation email from Capital.
This month's bill came, and when I tried to pay it, my account login wasn't accepted. I tried to recover it, but my email was also gone from their records. I attempted to make a new account and immediately received an error page. Then I tried to call the vision number on my card, and they transferred me to the Member Services number. That resulted in me being trapped in an inescapable promotion for an alert button, with no way to get past it.
I hit 0 a few times; it said it was transferring to an agent, and then the same promotion came on! I tried to call the Member Services number myself, in case there was a mistake in the transfer, but it went straight into the same promotion.
I finally managed to pay by back-door access through the Pennie number. However, Pennie had my date of birth wrong by ten years. I described all this to the people I had on the phone, but there was no explanation or offer to fix the problem. They just told me to register an account, seemingly unaware of the error page I've been getting for a week.
I've sent an email to Capital Blue Cross in my last attempt to understand what is happening. My Geisinger information was possibly compromised last year; maybe that's the problem?

As a member of Capital BC/BS in 2023, I had no issues or complaints. It was not until I notified them that I was terminating my plan and would be going on Medicare in 2024 that I encountered problems. In the meantime, I moved out of Pennsylvania and thought everything was fine as I believed I had closed my account. However, they went ahead and billed me via my checking account in January. I called, and they issued a check to my old address, but USPS did not forward the check. Since January, I have been jumping through proverbial hoops and navigating a labyrinth of obstacles to secure my erroneous payment from January. I have been on the phone with several representatives, who are all very nice, but nothing seems to get corrected. I finally got a supervisor last week who looked at my file. He assured me that all the boxes were checked and that a check was being processed and issued. Today, April 3, I received another call informing me that until the initial check clears back through the bank, I will not receive my payment. I am now waiting for another supervisor to call me to help resolve this. In short, make sure when you terminate anything with them, you close all your accounts so they can't bill you in error. I will update this once I am able to secure my money.

They always refuse to cover things your doctor has ordered for you. I guess they know better than the doctors. I can't tell you the number of times I go to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription and I'm told you need to fight with your insurance company to get it.

I have never had a worse health insurance experience. They have awful coverage policies, do not take prior coverage into account, take months to respond to contact requests or simply ghost you, if you call in they somehow "can't find your records" - it's an entirely miserable experience and I cannot wait to no longer be a customer. Just a few more months and I'm free. I'm nearing a thousand dollars out of pocket for covered medication simply because they don't like my pharmacy - I've been trying for over a year to answer their questions and get refunded but every time I get ghosted or they find another excuse as to why they can't. I counter it and several months go by again until they respond with some other reason they can't pay me. not to mention that my out of pocket costs have gone up in general. The one bonus there was - the healthy rewards program, now doesn't work - go figure, it benefits customers. They're just ultimately useless. Would not recommend whatsoever.

Beware - rife with errors, unprofessional and downright pitiful at times. Double billed for 2 months because I am signed up for both the autopay service and also through their Check It Out program. Check it out payments are not compliant with their own website so you cannot see payments or change the payment method once it takes months to get set up. Requested Supervisor callback which will take 24/48 hours. Supervisor called me back and started crying on the call within 30 minutes and said she will have Debbie so and so call me back. Basically I have wasted several hours on the phone with this company and have gotten ZERO results thus far. One good thing about them is that one of the reps was able to submit an expedited refund request and get my April double payment refunded in a lot less time than their antiquated 7-10 business day process would have taken. Will be filing a complaint with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department regarding the blatantly false misinformation I was given on recorded lines several times.

At my place of employment, employees are granted health insurance benefits that run through Capital Blue Cross. I honestly can't comment on the rates you should expect if you don't get this health insurance through your work; however, I am certainly able to comment on the quality and service of Capital Blue Cross. Over the last few years, I've experienced one situation where I had to make use of my health insurance through the company. The dealings were quick, simple, and appropriate. The company covered the entire cost of my medical bill despite the fact that my coverage was slightly less than the bill I was charged by the hospital. The difference wasn't much, but it's still something the company wasn't legally required to do for me. Little things like that set the good companies apart from the average or poor ones. The only reason I'm not giving Capital Blue Cross a five star review is because I struggled more than I felt I should have to simply get in touch with a representative. I was constantly transferred from person to person over the phone until I was able to speak with someone. This is a minor complaint compared to the big picture, but it's worth noting. At the end of the day, I recommend doing business with this company.
