Absolutely the worst nightmare in dealing with getting my very necessary prescriptions! They won't lift a finger to help you if you can actually get to a live person. They blame your doctor for all issues with sending out medication on time, if at all. And oh my god with the automated phone calls!! I had to put them on my ignore list because they were calling every single day with a machine that, if you do answer, puts you on hold. Guess what they want to do? They want to ask you if you have any questions!!! They want to put you on hold for 5 minutes (I've clocked this because my recording machine taped them until they finally got on the phone and hung up) to ask you how they are doing. One word - AWFUL!!! If you don't need to go through them, go the other route.

Optum is cutting association with ALL of the desirable specialists in the Riverside, California area. The only specialists available are overbooked, and it takes over three months for an appointment with them, that is if they have office staff to answer the phone. When we do manage to make an appointment, the doctor has often disassociated with Optum by the time the appointment comes around, and we cannot be seen by the specialist after waiting months for the appointment because the specialist no longer has an active contract with the Optum.

Since Caremount became Optum, they have outsourced their billing department to a third party, United Health Group. My primary physician is a "dual provider,” serving both as a Primary Care Physician and as a Pulmonologist. When I visit my doctor for check-ups, my co-pay should be $20. I have been informed that when a doctor is a dual provider, Optum consistently bills them as a specialist, which incurs a $40 co-pay, disregarding the fact that he is my Primary Care Physician. Nobody has been able to assist me when I contact them. This situation has caused me a great deal of aggravation and stress. It seems that no one there is concerned about the incorrect billing, yet they are quick to threaten collection agency action since I only pay what I owe and leave the balance that I've been incorrectly billed. After 30 years with Mt. Kisco Medical, then Caremount, now Optum, I am considering leaving them. I love my doctor, but I am at my wit's end dealing with the issues at Optum. I would advise keeping a distance from Optum.

Optum operates unethically. I am 68 and a cancer survivor. My husband is 71. Without any warning, Optum is refusing to allow us to keep seeing our doctors. They will not even allow us to pay out of pocket. So now, we have no primary care.

Optum is the worst experience I have ever had with a provider. They are holding me hostage to my blood pressure medication! I met with the Optum doctor three months ago for my yearly check-up, and she filled it for three months without an automatic refill and let it expire. Although the pharmacy called her several times. Now, she is asking me to make an appointment again if I need my medication refilled. I am trying to explain this to the prescription department, and she doesn't seem to care. Unbelievable. I have never had such a bad experience. I told them I would escalate this and sue them if they don't fill my prescription.

The Optum Office on Jefferson (Optum Jefferson) is by far the worst medical office to call. I have been trying for three weeks to get a hold of someone to talk to them about coding for Medicare, and no one, I mean no one, answers the phone. I have left message after message asking for a callback, but they don't do that either. How is a patient who has been going there to see Dr. Romero for years supposed to proceed now? I suppose I must go in person and try to talk to someone. The service is just horrible.

Optum Urgent Care Billing Office billed me $1,500 by inaccurately coding tests so that my Medicare refused them initially. If you want to fight Optum, you have to be patient. They will send you through a chain of people who will do nothing to help you. Medicare finally ruled that they were responsible for the bill, and I took them to small claims court and won. Optum Urgent Care now uses Quest for billing. Getting one to communicate with the other is like trying to get a giraffe to talk to a mouse. The whole system is a mess. Don't allow yourself to get caught in it.

I recently went to Optum Health Care from my old Primary Doctor. The office is clean and professional-looking. The folks that work there do not seem to care much for the patients. I have some medical conditions and take 26 pills each day. During the first office visit, all the prescriptions were an important part of the conversations. They do not have doctors on staff, only Medical Assistants. Not the end of the world, except when the same medical assistant who did the intake assured they would refill all my prescriptions. When the refills are sent over from the pharmacy, a different medical assistant is there and nobody can tell me if the person I originally saw will return and fill my prescriptions. So they just decide not to refill my prescriptions and do not care what they agreed to do, leaving the patient in a jam for prescriptions. I asked if there is a medical reason not to refill the prescription, the answer is no. They just decide to do whatever they want, no controls, no concern for the patient's needs.
I would not switch primary care to this office and suggest everyone look for a real primary care doctor who will tell the truth and not make things harder for the patients.

Seriously, you are better off sitting in front of an internet browser and googling questions about medications; it will be more productive than asking Optum experts any questions. The one almost positive thing... the expectations placed on the consumer seem to rival the knowledge of an Optum pharmacist who has been schooled for years. Much to be desired Company and lots of room for corporate improvements

Scheduled for a nuclear stress test on 4/17, it was canceled because they did not have the medicine. Rescheduled for 5/13. Canceled again due to lack of medicine and rescheduled for 6/17. On 6/17, after 2 hours, I was told they had ordered the wrong test. It should have been an amyloid test. Rescheduled for 7/8. There is a problem with Optum. If you must use them, be careful. They don't seem to know what they are doing.

The worst company on the planet! I have changed my address with them several times for months. I had requested my HRA card sent to me several times for months. It turns out when you change your address with them over the month, they don't change your mailing address. So, the third time I called after three months, they had to send it to their superiors to get my mailing address changed even though I had updated my address with them for the third time. Companies like this should be shut down immediately when they are not fulfilling their responsibilities, and it seems their computers aren't working properly either. My health is at risk, and companies like this cause me to spend more money that I don't have, adding more stress and pressure to my life because simple tasks are not being managed on their end. If this isn't resolved correctly for the third time, then you will be hearing from my attorney. The end.

Optum by AARP. Total failure. During a recent pharmacy visit, I was charged $42 for my prescription, while my Optum coupon code quoted a $24 price. Nearly double the Optum amount. When calling Optum customer service to verify the reason for this significant price difference, I was brushed off by the agent with the phrase, "Price differences do occur, and furthermore, the prices we publish on the website are always estimates." What a waste of time. Other discount programs are much better and more accurate. Thank you, AARP, for another product that proved to be useless.

Denied quality of life medications, I have nothing but disdain for Optum. I hope Dr. Oz can shut them down. They are the worst company. I am sitting here with a chronic migraine headache and major depression because of chronic pain, due to Optum. Optum is not even worth capital letters. They cause their seniors to live like this. Optum said I have to have neck cancer before they approve the nerve blocks that relieve my pain. How can we file a class action lawsuit against this deplorable insurance? I truly despise them. I have a master's degree in education, and taught school for most of my life, only to live in constant pain from denials of migraine medications and procedures. Run away from UH and Optum.
