Yes, PNC acquired National City Corporation, the parent company of National City Bank. The agreement was reached on October 24, 2008 amid the financial crisis, and the acquisition was finalized on December 31, 2008.

The National City brand was retired on June 14, 2010, with its branches and operations integrated into PNC Bank.
