Yes, Bank of America does have pre-approval. Bank of America has an online pre-approval page where potential applicants can quickly check their odds of approval for certain Bank of America cards before applying for one. Current Bank of America customers may also receive pre-approved offers periodically by e-mail or when logging into their online account. And in some cases, Bank of America will send people pre-approved offers for specific cards in the mail.
Getting pre-approved for a Bank of America card indicates that your chances of being approved for an account are very high, should you decide to apply. It does not mean that approval is guaranteed.
How to Check for Bank of America Pre-Approval Online
- Click “Find a Credit Card Quickly” on the Bank of America website.
- Log in to your Bank of America account or select "Continue without signing in."
- Enter your full name, birthdate, and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
- Click “Show me my offers” to view any pre-approved offers.
If you have pre-approved offers, you can apply for the card of your choice directly from the pre-approval site. Simply click the button next to the card you want, and you will be directed to the card’s application page.
To respond to a pre-approved mail offer, visit the website listed in your pre-approval letter and enter the invitation code included with the offer. This allows Bank of America to flag the application as pre-approved.
Bank of America pre-approvals do not affect your credit score, as they’re done using a soft “pull,” or inquiry. But if you decide to apply for any Bank of America card, Bank of America will conduct a hard inquiry, which might lead to a small, temporary decrease in your credit score.

Bank of America is one of those banks that require excellent credit scores to get any of their credit cards. I know it is easier to apply for a credit card once you are pre-approved but that is not always the best strategy. I was pre-approved for the Discover Secured Card that required a $200 deposit but i decided to apply for their Discover It Cash Back and was approved with a $8,500 credit limit. Discover also requires exellent credit for this card but I was approved with a credit of 675. Use Wallethub’s approval odds for your best credit card approval rates. Don’t apply for cards you know you can not get because it will only damage your credit with the Hard Pulls.
