To change your name on a Capital One credit card account due to marriage or divorce, update your name with the Social Security Administration and then call Capital One customer service at 1-800-227-4825. Once you request the name change with a Capital One representative, it will be effective immediately. Capital One will then send you a new card reflecting your new name.
If your Capital One credit card name change isn’t due to marriage or divorce, you will need to mail a copy of a legal document that reflects your new name, along with a letter describing the reason for the name change, to Capital One. The letter should contain both your old and new names, your 16-digit credit card number, and the address and phone number associated with the account. A copy of an updated driver’s license or Social Security card will work as legal proof of a name change.
Once you have all these documents ready, mail them to:
Capital One
Attn: General Correspondence
P.O. Box 30285
Salt Lake City, UT 84130.
After Capital One receives your documents, your name change should be effective within 7 business days, and they will send you a new credit card in the mail.
