The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is a Mastercard, but some applicants might receive a Visa depending on the source of their application. Either way, you can use your Capital One Venture at almost every merchant that accepts credit cards in more than 200 countries and territories.
Things to Know About the Capital One Venture Card
- Card acceptance: The Capital One Venture is accepted by millions of retailers in over 200 countries and territories. Almost every merchant that takes credit cards accepts Mastercard.
- No foreign transaction fees: On top of the Capital One Venture’s wide global acceptance, frequent travelers will also enjoy the card’s $0 foreign transaction fee (see details, rates & fees). That means you’ll be able to use this card abroad without having to pay a surcharge on everything you buy. Cards with foreign transaction fees typically charge an extra 2% to 4% on international purchases.
- Mastercard benefits: The Mastercard tier that you will get will depend on your credit standing. If you qualify for the Mastercard Elite level of benefits, your Capital One Venture will include perks such as travel insurance, concierge services, and purchase protection, among other benefits. For Capital One products listed on this page, some of the benefits may be provided by Visa® or Mastercard® and may vary by product. See the respective Guide to Benefits for details, as terms and exclusions apply.
- Additional perks: The Capital One Venture provides plenty of its own rewards and perks to complement the array of benefits offered by Mastercard. For example, the card offers 5 miles per $1 spent on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, 5 miles per $1 spent on Capital One Entertainment purchases, and 2 miles per $1 on all other purchases.
There are a few relatively small differences between Visa and Mastercard credit cards, such as the network-level benefits they offer. But the two card networks have a lot in common, including extensive worldwide acceptance, so it’s better to compare individual credit card offers than to focus on getting a card from a particular network.
