You should get the Chase Freedom Unlimited card if you're looking for cash back rewards across a wide range of spending categories plus the option to finance your purchases. But if you're a Prime member and do a lot of shopping at Amazon or Whole Foods, the Amazon Prime Visa could be your perfect match. Both cards come with a $0 annual fee, but they differ significantly in how they earn rewards.
Chase Freedom Unlimited vs. Amazon Prime Visa
Cards | Chase Freedom Unlimited | Amazon Prime Visa |
Initial bonus: | $200 for spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months | $150 Amazon gift card |
Ongoing rewards: | 5% cash back on travel through Chase Travel, 3% back at restaurants and drugstores, and 1.5% back on all other purchases | 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market with an eligible Prime membership, 5% back on Chase Travel purchases, 2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare), as well as 1% back on all other purchases |
Purchase intro APR: | 0% for 15 months | Not offered |
Intro Balance transfer APR | 0% for 15 months | Not Offered |
Regular APR: | 18.99% - 28.49% (V) | 19.49% - 28.24% (V) |
Annual fee: | $0 | $0 – You have to be enrolled in Prime membership to get the card, though |
Foreign transaction fee: | 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars | 0% |
Credit score required: | 700+ (good credit or better) | 700+ (good credit or better) |
As you can see, these two cards are very different when it comes to their rewards structure, intro APRs and foreign transaction fees. However, since both the Chase Freedom Unlimited card and the Amazon Prime Visa card come with a $0 annual fee, you don’t necessarily need to choose one or the other. These two cards pair well together.

It's worth noting that the "cash back" rewards you earn with either card come in the form of points. Amazon Credit Card points are worth 1 cent apiece when you redeem them for travel, cash back, gift cards or Amazon.com purchases. On Chase Freedom Unlimited, cash back rewards are tracked as points that are worth 1 cent apiece when redeemed for cash back, gift cards or travel. They're worth up to 1 cent each toward Amazon.com purchases using the Pay with Points feature. In addition, because Chase Freedom Unlimited is an Ultimate Rewards card, you can transfer points to other Ultimate Rewards cards (like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve®) to get more value toward travel.
