No, you don’t need an EIN to apply for a Chase business credit card. If you’re a sole proprietor, freelancer, or have a side hustle without a formal business structure, you can simply use your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) when the application asks for a business tax ID.
That said, if your business is registered as an LLC, partnership, or corporation, it’s a good idea to use an EIN when you apply. Doing so helps keep your personal and business finances separate, and it may make it easier to build business credit.
Keep in mind that regardless of whether you use an EIN or SSN when asked for the business tax ID, Chase will usually check your personal credit when you apply. So, a strong personal credit history is still an important factor in getting approved.
