With some credit cards, you will know right away if you get approved when you apply online. However, not all online applications result in an immediate decision. If you’re instantly approved for the card that you apply for, you should see the good news on your screen within minutes of submitting your application. If your application requires further investigation from the credit card company, you will get a decision via email.
If you apply over the phone or in a branch, the process could take longer, and you will receive a decision via email, mail or phone. This could take up to 14 business days, but applications are generally processed faster than that.
Finally, if you’re approved for a credit card, you will typically receive the card in the mail within 7-10 business days of approval. If you would like to check the status of your application, we recommend calling the issuer’s customer service department. Some credit card companies also let you check on their website.
