No, Chase Sapphire cards are probably not worth it if you don’t travel. Although you can still earn rewards for regular purchases, you won’t earn as much as you would on travel-related ones. Even when redeeming points, you get the most value when redeeming for travel. This means you’ll have to spend quite a bit to offset the $95 annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, and even more to offset the $795 annual fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card.
Aside from the rewards and costs, a Chase Sapphire card’s perks and benefits are also travel-oriented, for the most part. These include trip cancellation insurance, rental car insurance and even airport lounge access, which are wasted if you don’t travel at all.
For non-travelers, a credit card that offers rewards on everyday purchases is recommended, like the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card. This card offers 2% cash rewards on purchases and has a $0 annual fee.
