Yes, USAA waives deductibles for glass repair or replacement and when you are 50% or less at fault for an accident in some states. USAA also automatically waives your collision insurance deductible if you are hit by an uninsured motorist.
When USAA Will Waive Your Deductible
- For glass repair. USAA completely waives your deductible if your windshield can be repaired and you carry comprehensive insurance. This typically happens when your windshield damage is smaller than a dollar bill.
- For glass replacement. Certain states have explicit rules requiring insurance companies to completely waive your comprehensive insurance deductible for glass replacement. Other states require insurers to offer a $0 deductible as an add-on to your policy.
- When you are 50% or less at fault for an accident (in certain states). For example, Michigan and Massachusetts offer broad collision coverage and limited collision coverage, respectively, which require USAA to waive your collision deductible when you are 50% or less at fault for an accident.
- If you have a collision deductible waiver. If you have collision insurance, USAA automatically gives you a collision deductible waiver. As a result, you won’t have to pay your collision insurance deductible if you are hit by a driver who does not carry liability insurance.
Additionally, USAA may pursue a process called subrogation to recover the cost of the claim from the at-fault driver's insurance company, in which case they could refund your deductible if you are found to be not at fault. If you are found to be partially at fault, you may have to pay a portion of your deductible. If you are found to be at fault, the deductible will not be refunded.
