GEICO’s multi-car discount of up to 25% on each car’s premium is automatically applied when a customer insures two or more vehicles on the same GEICO policy. The multi-car discount does not compound, though, meaning you won’t get a bigger discount just for adding more vehicles. But GEICO does consider motorcycles, RVs, and boats to be secondary vehicles that qualify for the discount, too. That means you could get the multi-car discount for insuring a car and a boat, but not for two boats.
Will the multi-car discount from GEICO save me money?
Yes and no. The discount for multiple vehicles makes the policy less expensive than it would be if you insured both cars individually. But it’s pretty much always going to be more expensive to insure two cars than one.
People are sometimes frustrated when they downsize from two cars to one and only see their premium go down a small amount, but that’s because the multi-car discount goes away, too. The rate for the single remaining vehicle could be as much as 25% higher without it.
What is GEICO’s multi-line discount?
The GEICO multi-line (or multi-policy) discount is for customers bundling auto insurance with another type of policy, like renters, homeowners, condo, or mobile home insurance coverage. The multi-car discount is different since it’s for multiple vehicles on the same auto policy.
But the multi-policy discount could also help you save, and many households will be able to save because of both discounts. For example, you could combine home and auto coverage to get the multi-line discount and insure two cars for the multi-car discount.
Overall, both the multi-car and multi-line discounts make it financially beneficial to meet all your insurance needs through one company.
